A pair of thieves in Mexico may have stolen more than they bargained for when they targeted a truck this week. The stolen vehicle was carrying delicate cargo -- a radioactive element used for medical purposes that also can be used to make a so-called dirty bomb.Mexican authorities said they'd found the stolen truck and at least some of the radioactive cobalt on Wednesday. But officials aren't sure whether any of the cobalt is missing, said Juan Eibenschutz Hartman, head of Mexico's National Commission for Nuclear Security and Safeguards. The container containing cobalt was found about a kilometer away from the truck and had been opened, he said.Authorities were preparing to send a special team to the area, where radiation has been detected, Eibenschutz said. The International Atomic Energy Agency announced the theft on Wednesday.Mexican authorities told the IAEA that the truck, which was transporting cobalt-60 from a hospital in Tijuana to a radioactive waste storage center, was stolen Monday in Tepojaco, near Mexico City.An early theory is that the thieves were unaware of what exactly they had taken. At the time the truck was stolen, the source was properly shielded, the IAEA said. However, the source could be extremely dangerous to a person if removed from the shielding, or if it was damaged.Cobalt-60 is used in radiotherapy and in industrial tools such as leveling devices and thickness gauges. Large sources of cobalt-60 are used to sterilize certain foods, as the gamma rays kill bacteria but don't damage the product, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. If released into the environment, the radioactive material can harm people. And experts consider cobalt-60 one of the candidates for making dirty bombs.Bombs made with cobalt-60 pose a threat mainly because even a fraction of a gram emits a huge number of high-energy gamma rays; such material is harmful whether outside or inside the body, according to a 2011 report by the Congressional Research Service. In a speech last year, the IAEA director warned that such a dirty bomb detonated in a major city could cause mass panic, as well as serious economic and environmental consequences.Preliminary information suggests that the thieves did not know what the truck's cargo was when they stole it, said Jaime Aguirre Gomez, deputy director of radiological security at the National Commission for Nuclear Security and Safeguards. The shielding that protects the cobalt-60 is designed so that the radioactive source is difficult to extract, Aguirre said. The casing is designed not to be opened or perforated easily. The truck and its cargo went missing early Monday after the driver of the white 2007 Volkswagen truck and an assistant had stopped to rest at a gas station, local prosecutor Marcos Morales told CNN.At around 1 a.m. Monday, a man armed with a handgun knocked on the passenger window. When the passenger rolled down his window, the gunman demanded the keys to the vehicle, Morales said. Both the driver and his assistant were taken to an empty lot where they were bound and told not to move. They heard one of the assailants use a walkie-talkie type device or phone to tell someone, It's done, Morales said.Mexico alerted the IAEA to the theft, following international protocol, Aguirre said. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is assisting with the investigation into the stolen truck, Mexican authorities said. The U.S. government has sensors at border crossings and sea ports to prevent radioactive materials from entering the country. This includes large stationary sensors designed to scan vehicles going through land border crossings as well as pager-size devices carried by agents. Some of this equipment is sensitive enough that it has been set off by people who had recently undergone radiation therapy, according to a U.S. law-enforcement source.According to the Congressional Research Service report, in Thailand in 2000, a disused cobalt-60 source was stored outdoors and bought by two scrap collectors, who took it to a junkyard where it was cut open. Some workers suffered burn-like injuries, and eventually three people died and seven others suffered radiation injuries, the report says. Nearly 2,000 others who lived nearby were exposed to radiation.- published: 07 Feb 2014

Inside the secret world of teen cartel hit men Subscribe to The Latest News: Watch the latest video news you can watch from the web Laredo, Texas -- On a dusty, remote ranch across the Rio Grande from this Texas border town, an intimidating drug lord stood over 13-year-old Rosalio Reta and handed him a gun.Reta didn't know who the man was, but it was clear he instilled fear and commanded respect among everyone standing around watching the dramatic scene unfold. The American teen had never before met anyone who carried a pistol adorned with such an unforgettable decoration: the number "40" encrusted in diamonds on the handle. The cartel leader looked at Reta and ordered him to shoot and kill a man tied up on the ground. If he refused to murder the stranger, Reta recalls, the drug lord would have killed him.Rosalio Reta's career as a teen drug cartel assassin had begun."I knew that my life had just changed forever," Reta told CNN this week, 11 years later. "That's a day that I'm never going to be able to forget. After that, I didn't have no life."Reta's boyhood friend Gabriel Cardona says he started his life as a criminal by stealing cars and selling them across the border in Mexico. He graduated to smuggling drugs and weapons across the Rio Grande. Cardona says it wasn't long before he also became a drug cartel assassin. He was only 16.Reta and Cardona agreed to give CNN rare interviews from the Texas prisons where both men are serving life sentences for murder. They offered a first-hand glimpse inside the sinister world of drug cartels, a world that plagues innocent people on both sides of the border. The mysterious drug lord who ordered Reta to shoot the stranger at the ranch that day, Reta says, was Miguel Angel Trevino. For years, Trevino was the unrivaled leader of the ruthless Zetas drug cartel until police arrested him last month just outside Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. HACKING Mexico Orders Major Probe: Report Of NSA Spied On Current & Former Presidents
How To Go To Heaven: http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/how_to_be_saved.html http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/10/23/330911/mexico-orders-probe-into-nsa-spying/ Mexico orders probe into US spying on its top officials Wed Oct 23, 2013 Mexican interior minister has ordered a major probe into reports of US electronic spying on its current President Enrique Pena Nieto as well as his predecessor Felipe Calderon. Miguel Angel Osorio Chong announced on Tuesday that he had instructed Mexico's CISEN intelligence agency and federal police to conduct an "exhaustive" investigation into the spying operation and to determine whether any Mexican operatives were involved. The call for the high-level probe followed an official order by President Pena Nieto to conduct a major investigation on whether the US National Security Agency (NSA) hacked his emails while he was campaigning for presidential office in 2012. The NSA targeted his phone and the phones of nine of his close associates to build a map of their regular contacts. From then it closely monitored those individuals' phones as well, intercepting 85,489 text messages, including those sent by Nieto, press reports say. President Nieto further added that Calderon, widely known for his cooperation with American officials, was also targeted by US eavesdropping efforts while in office. The Mexican Foreign Ministry, meanwhile, has further slammed the fresh evidence of US spying measures on the country's officials. "The Mexican government strongly condemns the spying practice over communication tools and internet activity of the country's state agencies and its citizens," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. It added that such cases were completely unacceptable, unlawful and contrary to international legislation. Earlier, Mexican press published facts that the NSA was using special software to spy in several Latin American countries. According to the media reports, these activities were aimed at collecting confidential data in military and energy fields, as well as intelligence on fighting narcotics trade. Moreover, a report by German news magazine Der Spiegel, mostly based on classified documents leaked by NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden, indicated that US surveillance operations against the Latin American nation helped the Americans make several profitable investments in Mexican enterprises. The report cites a "top secret" NSA internal memo as stating that access to Calderon electronic exchanges gave the US spies "diplomatic, economic and leadership communications which continue to provide insight into Mexico's political system and internal stability." Meanwhile, top officials in France have also demanded explanations from Washington on Monday following a recent report that its infamous NSA spy agency secretly recorded millions of phone calls made in the country. The development comes as French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius also reacted strongly on Monday to a report that US electronic spying operations monitored millions of calls made by French citizens. "I have immediately summoned the US ambassador," Fabius told reporters on Monday as he arrived for an EU foreign ministers summit, adding a meeting would take place "this morning" at the ministry in Paris. "This type of practice between partners, which violates privacy, is totally unacceptable and we must ensure very quick that it is not still continuing," Fabius added. The American spy agency taped 70.3 million phone calls in France over a 30-day period between December 10 and January 8, 2013, Le Monde reported in its online version.- published: 24 Oct 2013

Making of Absolut Mexico, a Dr. Lakra collaboration

TSO Show 3x07 - Viva Mexico
TSO Show 3x07 - Viva Mexico
On each show members of TSO take an in-depth comical look at the news events relating to a particular topic or country. This time we'll be enjoying our Spring Break in the United Mexican States, but you may know this country as Mexico. No topic is off the table as we discuss and parody the hell of our current Mexican affairs. Our host +Jose Rosario welcomes guests: +Ernesto Villasenor +Diego Etheve Da Cunha We'll poke, prod, inform, and joke about the highs and lows in Mexican news. Maybe we'll discuss the recent changes to how elections are regulated, or inflation staying under 4%. The breakup of the oil extraction monopoly that's been around since 1938 is also a thorny issue right now. Don't worry, no one knows what's going to be on the show. We spend the entire night before writing up the "script". So we'll be learning and laughing together about current events in Mexico. The show is live and interactive so your questions, comments, and abuse will be included in the show. If the time isn't right you can always watch later. Hope you can join us. *We know event invites can be annoying, so if you don't want to be invited to these in future please let us know, we won't take it personally (although be aware it might not have been us who invited you, but one of our guests).*- published: 28 Mar 2014
