Oh have we got a treat for you, the creative and unique, Indian singer-songwriter, Raghu Dixit.
Gaining recognition as frontman for the famous folk band, 'Raghu Dixit Project', the self taught artist and previous microbiologist, is not your typical Indian musician.
The work of Dixit is far fetched from the traditional Bollywood scene. Instead, his folk fusion of hearty vocals, drums and guitar, make for the perfect listen.
Challenged at the age of nineteen to pick up a guitar and play a song in English, by a classmate, Dixit has since become a household name in India. Proving a hit at last years Glastonbury, singing for the Queen and now joining us here at Crypt Sessions.

El ámbar, árabe o succino (del latín succinum) es una piedra preciosa hecha de resina vegetal fosilizada proveniente principalmente de restos de coníferas y algunas angiospermas.
Los árboles producen la resina como una protección contra enfermedades e infestaciones de insectos, cuando la corteza de un árbol es herida debido a rotura o a un ataque por escarabajos de madera u otros insectos, bacterias u hongos. Después de exudar al exterior, la resina se endurece por polimerización en el interior de rocas arcillosas o arenosas, algunas veces calizas, que se formaban en zonas deltaicas de ríos, generalmente con mucha materia orgánica asociada, y se han conservado en su interior durante millones de años.
El ámbar es un mineral, ya que es una sustancia inorgánica y su estructura es definida. Su composición varía dependiendo del árbol del que proviene, aunque todos tienen terpenos o compuestos que son comunes en las resinas endurecidas.1
En España está presente desde el Solutrense de la cueva de Altamira.
En muchas ocasiones, la resina, al escurrir sobre la corteza de troncos y ramas, llegó a atrapar burbujas de aire, gotas de agua, partículas de polvo o pequeños seres vivos como plantas (orquídeas, hongos, musgos, líquenes, semillas y un sinfín de flores diminutas), insectos, gusanos y otro tipo de animales que van desde diminutas hormigas, arañas, mosquitos, abejas, termitas, mariposas y libélulas hasta lagartijas, ranas y escorpiones, quedando guardados y preservados como inclusiones fósiles deshidratadas, pero sin el encogimiento que normalmente causan las deshidrataciones, conservándose de tal forma que su estructura celular y hasta fragmentos de su ADN pueden encontrarse en la actualidad.
Estas inclusiones agregan no sólo belleza a una pieza de ámbar, sino una gran cantidad de información de suma importancia para los científicos, pues de esta manera se tiene conocimiento de la vida de hace millones de años, disponiendo, incluso, de especies ya desaparecidas. Existen muestras de ámbar de gran valor desde el punto de vista paleoambiental, lo que permite que científicos reconstruyan un modelo de un ecosistema de milenios pasados desaparecido hace ya mucho tiempo. El tamaño, el tipo de espécimen, su visibilidad, la cantidad y hasta la posición son factores importantes que intervienen en la evaluación de una inclusión
A finales de julio del año 2008, un equipo de investigadores del Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, compuesto por María Najarro de la Parra e Idoia Rosales Franco, descubrieron un yacimiento de ámbar con insectos del Cretácico desconocidos hasta ahora y con un estado de conservación "excelente" en el entorno de la Cueva de El Soplao, cerca de la localidad cántabra de Rábago.
Además de pequeñas avispas, moscas, chinches, arañas, cucarachas y mosquitos chupadores de sangre que se alimentaban picando a los dinosaurios, el ámbar de El Soplao encierra una tela de araña distinta de la que ya se había descrito en un yacimiento de Teruel y que despertó un gran interés entre los científicos. También contiene restos fósiles de coníferas y el fragmento de ámbar azul más antiguo que se ha datado.
El yacimiento, que permitirá profundizar en el conocimiento de los ecosistemas de la era de los dinosaurios "a varias generaciones de paleontólogos", ha aflorado durante las obras de la carretera de acceso a la cueva de El Soplao, de la que dista tres kilómetros, y es el primer logro de los trabajos que se están haciendo en esta zona tras el convenio que firmaron en diciembre de 2007 el Instituto Geológico y la Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte del Gobierno de Cantabria.
También aportará información sobre el cambio climático porque hace 110 millones de años -45 millones de años antes de que un meteorito acabase con los dinosaurios-, esta región del planeta tenía un clima subtropical muy caluroso, la atmósfera era mucho más rica en CO2 que la actual y por lo tanto, el efecto invernadero era muy acusado.
El yacimiento de El Soplao está además muy bien datado, algo que no ocurre con otros de la misma era, como los del Líbano, que son diez millones de años más antiguos que éste.

Raghu Dixit ( Kannada: ರಘು ದೀಕ್ಷಿತ್), born on November 11, 1974, is an Indian singer-songwriter, producer, and film score composer based in Bangalore, India. He is most famous for fronting the Raghu Dixit Project, a multilingual folk music band. Though a gold medalist in Masters in Microbiology and a proficient Indian classical dancer (Vidwat in Bharatanatyam), Raghupathy Dixit is now known more as a self-taught composer and musician. Originally from Mysore, he settled in Bengaluru. As the founder-front man of his band Antaragni for more than eight years, and now of The Raghu Dixit Project, Dixit has performed more than 250 concerts all over India. In 2008, The Raghu Dixit Project launched its debut album Antaragni: The Fire Within. Raghu is a self-taught guitarist and singer. The most catchy part of Raghu's concert is his unique voice which goes beyond ranges and the measured humor that he puts in without any effort.
Dixit's music is an amalgamation of Indian ethnic music and styles from different parts of the world. In an interview with Vishnupriya Bhandaram of The Hindu, he mentions, "“Every 200 kilometres in this country, languages change, the dialects change and the food changes, lives and lifestyles change and my music is unique and probably the USP is that it's sung in a vernacular tongue… its adds mystery.” His lyrics are about every common man's emotions and experience. His songs Mysore se aayi, Mumbai, Antaragni, Hey Bhagwan, Har Saans Mein, Gudugudiya, Khidki are popular among his fans. Most of his songs are influenced by Shishunala Sharif, a saint and poet from the state of Karnataka in India.

Plot: Ramallah this decade. A free spirited woman dancer, Kamar, finds herself the wife of a prisoner, Zaid, and away from everything she loves until she returns to the dance, defying society's taboos. At the dance Kamar is confronted with Kais, a Palestinian returnee, who has taken Kamar's role as the head choreographer. Sparks fly between Kamar and Kais, creating more than a passionate, emotional dance for the both of them. Matters become even more complicated when Zaid's sentence is extended. At the same time the family's legal case against the land confiscation faces one obstacle after another and the villagers from the nearby villages are unable to reach the family's olive groves, placing the annual harvest and consequently the family's livelihood in danger. And Kamar's life is thrown into turmoil as she becomes increasingly attached to Kais, and caught in the midst of her desire to dance and breaking the family and society taboos of the prisoner's wife's role while life under occupation rages on.

Los árboles producen la resina como una protección contra enfermedades e infestaciones de insectos, cuando la corteza de un árbol es herida debido a rotura o a un ataque por escarabajos de madera u otros insectos, bacterias u hongos. Después de exudar al exterior, la resina se endurece por polimerización en el interior de rocas arcillosas o arenosas, algunas veces calizas, que se formaban en zonas deltaicas de ríos, generalmente con mucha materia orgánica asociada, y se han conservado en su interior durante millones de años.
El ámbar es un mineral, ya que es una sustancia inorgánica y su estructura es definida. Su composición varía dependiendo del árbol del que proviene, aunque todos tienen terpenos o compuestos que son comunes en las resinas endurecidas.1
En España está presente desde el Solutrense de la cueva de Altamira.
En muchas ocasiones, la resina, al escurrir sobre la corteza de troncos y ramas, llegó a atrapar burbujas de aire, gotas de agua, partículas de polvo o pequeños seres vivos como plantas (orquídeas, hongos, musgos, líquenes, semillas y un sinfín de flores diminutas), insectos, gusanos y otro tipo de animales que van desde diminutas hormigas, arañas, mosquitos, abejas, termitas, mariposas y libélulas hasta lagartijas, ranas y escorpiones, quedando guardados y preservados como inclusiones fósiles deshidratadas, pero sin el encogimiento que normalmente causan las deshidrataciones, conservándose de tal forma que su estructura celular y hasta fragmentos de su ADN pueden encontrarse en la actualidad.
Estas inclusiones agregan no sólo belleza a una pieza de ámbar, sino una gran cantidad de información de suma importancia para los científicos, pues de esta manera se tiene conocimiento de la vida de hace millones de años, disponiendo, incluso, de especies ya desaparecidas. Existen muestras de ámbar de gran valor desde el punto de vista paleoambiental, lo que permite que científicos reconstruyan un modelo de un ecosistema de milenios pasados desaparecido hace ya mucho tiempo. El tamaño, el tipo de espécimen, su visibilidad, la cantidad y hasta la posición son factores importantes que intervienen en la evaluación de una inclusión
A finales de julio del año 2008, un equipo de investigadores del Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, compuesto por María Najarro de la Parra e Idoia Rosales Franco, descubrieron un yacimiento de ámbar con insectos del Cretácico desconocidos hasta ahora y con un estado de conservación "excelente" en el entorno de la Cueva de El Soplao, cerca de la localidad cántabra de Rábago.
Además de pequeñas avispas, moscas, chinches, arañas, cucarachas y mosquitos chupadores de sangre que se alimentaban picando a los dinosaurios, el ámbar de El Soplao encierra una tela de araña distinta de la que ya se había descrito en un yacimiento de Teruel y que despertó un gran interés entre los científicos. También contiene restos fósiles de coníferas y el fragmento de ámbar azul más antiguo que se ha datado.
El yacimiento, que permitirá profundizar en el conocimiento de los ecosistemas de la era de los dinosaurios "a varias generaciones de paleontólogos", ha aflorado durante las obras de la carretera de acceso a la cueva de El Soplao, de la que dista tres kilómetros, y es el primer logro de los trabajos que se están haciendo en esta zona tras el convenio que firmaron en diciembre de 2007 el Instituto Geológico y la Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte del Gobierno de Cantabria.
También aportará información sobre el cambio climático porque hace 110 millones de años -45 millones de años antes de que un meteorito acabase con los dinosaurios-, esta región del planeta tenía un clima subtropical muy caluroso, la atmósfera era mucho más rica en CO2 que la actual y por lo tanto, el efecto invernadero era muy acusado.
El yacimiento de El Soplao está además muy bien datado, algo que no ocurre con otros de la misma era, como los del Líbano, que son diez millones de años más antiguos que éste.

En muchas ocasiones, la resina, al escurrir sobre la corteza de troncos y ramas, llegó a atrapar burbujas de aire, gotas de agua, partículas de polvo o pequeños seres vivos como plantas (orquídeas, hongos, musgos, líquenes, semillas y un sinfín de flores diminutas), insectos, gusanos y otro tipo de animales que van desde diminutas hormigas, arañas, mosquitos, abejas, termitas, mariposas y libélulas hasta lagartijas, ranas y escorpiones, quedando guardados y preservados como inclusiones fósiles deshidratadas, pero sin el encogimiento que normalmente causan las deshidrataciones, conservándose de tal forma que su estructura celular y hasta fragmentos de su ADN pueden encontrarse en la actualidad.
Estas inclusiones agregan no sólo belleza a una pieza de ámbar, sino una gran cantidad de información de suma importancia para los científicos, pues de esta manera se tiene conocimiento de la vida de hace millones de años, disponiendo, incluso, de especies ya desaparecidas. Existen muestras de ámbar de gran valor desde el punto de vista paleoambiental, lo que permite que científicos reconstruyan un modelo de un ecosistema de milenios pasados desaparecido hace ya mucho tiempo. El tamaño, el tipo de espécimen, su visibilidad, la cantidad y hasta la posición son factores importantes que intervienen en la evaluación de una inclusión
A finales de julio del año 2008, un equipo de investigadores del Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, compuesto por María Najarro de la Parra e Idoia Rosales Franco, descubrieron un yacimiento de ámbar con insectos del Cretácico desconocidos hasta ahora y con un estado de conservación "excelente" en el entorno de la Cueva de El Soplao, cerca de la localidad cántabra de Rábago.
Además de pequeñas avispas, moscas, chinches, arañas, cucarachas y mosquitos chupadores de sangre que se alimentaban picando a los dinosaurios, el ámbar de El Soplao encierra una tela de araña distinta de la que ya se había descrito en un yacimiento de Teruel y que despertó un gran interés entre los científicos. También contiene restos fósiles de coníferas y el fragmento de ámbar azul más antiguo que se ha datado.
El yacimiento, que permitirá profundizar en el conocimiento de los ecosistemas de la era de los dinosaurios "a varias generaciones de paleontólogos", ha aflorado durante las obras de la carretera de acceso a la cueva de El Soplao, de la que dista tres kilómetros, y es el primer logro de los trabajos que se están haciendo en esta zona tras el convenio que firmaron en diciembre de 2007 el Instituto Geológico y la Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte del Gobierno de Cantabria.
También aportará información sobre el cambio climático porque hace 110 millones de años -45 millones de años antes de que un meteorito acabase con los dinosaurios-, esta región del planeta tenía un clima subtropical muy caluroso, la atmósfera era mucho más rica en CO2 que la actual y por lo tanto, el efecto invernadero era muy acusado.
El yacimiento de El Soplao está además muy bien datado, algo que no ocurre con otros de la misma era, como los del Líbano, que son diez millones de años más antiguos que éste.
