Mother of the correspondent crying STORYLINE: Gunmen attacked the funeral procession of well known Al-Arabiya journalist, Atwar Bahjat on Saturday, sending mourners dashing for cover, police and army said. At least three people were killed and six injured in the mayhem. About 150 mourners, including many journalists, were walking through Baghdad's western Abu Ghraib area when they came under fire, sending people rushing for cover, an Al-Arabiya television correspondent reported from the scene. Security forces returned fire, and the army sent 60 more soldiers to protect the procession, said the Iraqi army. The attack happened near the residence of Harith al-Dhari, head of the influential Sunni clerical Association of Muslim Scholars, whose guards joined in the fray. At least one police commando was killed and another wounded in the exchange, said the police. One civilian was also injured. As the procession returned from the cemetery, a roadside bomb hit an Iraqi military escort vehicle, killing two soldiers and injuring four more people, said the army. Al-Arabiya correspondent Atwar Bahjat, a Sunni, was gunned down on Wednesday with two colleagues on the outskirts of Samarra, where they were covering the bombing of the Shiite Askariya shrine. Her body, and those of the two other journalists, were found on Thursday near Samarra, police and the Arabic network said. Their employers had lost contact with them on Wednesday night.
