Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a sport played between two teams of eleven players with a spherical ball. At the turn of the 21st century, the game was played by over 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world's most popular sport. The game is played on a rectangular field of grass or green artificial turf, with a goal in the middle of each of the short ends. The object of the game is to score by driving the ball into the opposing goal.

In general play, the goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with their hands or arms (unless the ball is carried out of play, where the field players are required to re-start by a throw-in of the game ball), while the field players typically use their feet to kick the ball into position, occasionally using their torso or head to intercept a ball in midair. The team that scores the most goals by the end of the match wins. If the score is tied at the end of the game, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time and/or a penalty shootout, depending on the format of the competition. The Laws of the Game were originally codified in England by the Football Association in 1863 and have evolved since then. Association football is governed internationally by FIFA - Fédération Internationale de Football Association (English: International Federation of Association Football), which organises the FIFA World Cup every four years.

Caleb Porter is an American soccer coach who is currently the head coach of the United States U-23 team and the men's soccer team at the University of Akron. A former midfielder, he played college soccer for Indiana University before his short professional career in Major League Soccer and the United Soccer League was ended by persistent knee injuries.

Porter attended Indiana University where he played on the men’s soccer team from 1994 to 1997. He graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor's degree in sports management. In February 1998, the San Jose Clash selected Porter with the 3rd round (27th overall) in the 1998 MLS College Draft. He played no games with the Clash in 1998 and only four in 1999. The Clash sent him on loan with the Sacramento Geckos of the A-League. After playing four games for the Clash in 1999, the team waived him in June and he was immediately signed by the Tampa Bay Mutiny. He suffered from several knee injuries and had arthroscopic surgery on both knees during the off season. He retired on June 30, 2000. In 1997, Porter was a member of the U.S. soccer team which took the bronze medal at the 1997 World University Games.

Christopher Elliott Wondolowski (born January 28, 1983 in Danville, California) is an American soccer player who currently plays for San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer. He is also commonly known by the nickname 'Wondo'

Wondolowski played high school soccer at De La Salle High School in Concord, California, where he earned All-Bay Valley Athletic League first team and all-East Bay first team honors in 2000 and 2001. He was awarded two area "Player of the Year" awards in 2001 by local media. Wondolowski played club soccer for the Diablo Valley Soccer Club (DVSC) and Danville Mustang Soccer Association.

He went on to enjoy a standout college soccer career at Chico State University, and led the Chico Rooks of the then Men's Premier Soccer League with 17 goals in the 2004 season.

Wondolowski was drafted 41st overall in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft by the San Jose Earthquakes. Although he made only two MLS appearances for San Jose in 2005, he led the Earthquakes reserve team in scoring with eight goals in 12 games.

David Horst (born October 25, 1985 in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania) is an American soccer player currently playing for Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer

Horst played college soccer at Old Dominion University, and in the USL Premier Development League with Reading Rage, Virginia Beach Submariners and the Hampton Roads Piranhas. He was 2007 PDL Defensive Player of the Year.

Horst was drafted in the first round (14th overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. He made his full professional debut for RSL on 16 August 2008 against the Houston Dynamo. Horst also spent time with USL-1 club Austin Aztex during the 2009 season.

During April 2010 Horst was sent out on loan to the Puerto Rico Islanders of the USSF Division 2 Professional League. He was sent off on his Islanders debut, on May 26, 2010 in a game against the Carolina RailHawks. On September 30, 2010, the Islanders where down 0-2 on halftime in a CONCACAF Champions League group stage match against Toluca from Mexico, teammate David Foley scored the first goal for the Islanders to make 2-1 in the second half, later, Horst scored the equalizer and the game winner in extra time. On October 2, 2010, Horst scored his first league goal against Miami FC. The Puerto Rico Islanders won the USSF Division 2 Professional League Championship on October 30, 2010 against the Carolina Railhawks.
