The flexing wings are a good indication of the blustery conditions - crosswind gusting 35 knots perpendicular to runway. Just watch the wheels bouncing in all directions under the shear forces. Very reassuring that the undercarriage can take this sort of punishment without blowing itself to pieces.

Extreme small plane landing on a ship at sea

With footage of six cameras including from inside the aircraft. Whilst filming how a small aircraft does aerial photography at sea, the "just in case something goes wrong" flat area for emergency landings just looks too good, so I cannot restrain myself and get away with landing on the moving ship. Tom and Aalbert save the day by courageously helping me to take off. What is misleading is that control is perfect at several metres above the deck but as soon as you get a metre or two above the deck to land 1) there is curlover turbulence coming off the bow and sides 2) you have no visual reference at all apart from the mast in front. But it worked - thanks to the most amazing aircraft, the extreme STOL Foxbat A22. The ship was sailing at 9 knots speed over ground, the true windspeed was 14 knots, just about the full flap stall speed with just myself in the plane and full long range fueltanks. Thanks everyone for the help, quite a dream come true. Oct 13.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It can carry from 210 to 330 passengers. The airliner's maiden flight took place on December 15, 2009, and completed flight testing in mid-2011. The first model was delivered in late September 2011. It entered commercial service on October 26, 2011. Boeing states that it's the company's most fuel-efficient airliner and the world's first major airliner to use composite materials as the primary material in the airframe. The 787 has been designed to be 20% more fuel efficient than the 767. It's distinguishing features is a four-panel windshield and a smoother nose contour. It shares a common type rating with the larger 777 twinjet, allowing qualified pilots to operate both models. The aircraft's initial designation was 7E7, prior to its renaming in January 2005. The first 787 was unveiled in a roll-out ceremony on July 8, 2007, at Boeing's Everett assembly factory. By May 2013, the 787 program had logged 890 orders from 58 customers. Development and production of the 787 have involved a large-scale collaboration with numerous suppliers around the globe. Final assembly is at the Boeing Everett Factory in Everett, Washington. Assembly is also taking place at a new factory in North Charleston, South Carolina. Both sites will deliver 787s to airline customers. The aircraft has suffered from several in-service problems, notably fires on board related to its lithium-ion batteries. These systems were reviewed by both the FAA and the Japanese aviation agency. On January 16, 2013, the FAA issued an emergency airworthiness directive that grounded all 787s in the U.S. After Boeing completed tests on a revised battery design, the FAA approved the revised design on April 19, 2013, and lifted the grounding on April 26, 2013. D-DAY - Landing On The Beaches Of Normandy On June 6th 1944 During Operation Neptune/Overlord. Historic World War 2 Combat Footage. This video shows the fighting for the beaches mainly at Omaha Beach but also the other landing zones are shown. The Normandy landings, codenamed Operation Neptune, were the landing operations on 6 June 1944 (termed D-Day) of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. The largest seaborne invasion in history, the operation began the Allied invasion of German-occupied western Europe, led to the restoration of the French Republic, and contributed to an Allied victory in the war. Planning for the operation began in 1943. In the months leading up to the invasion, the Allies conducted a substantial military deception, codenamed Operation Bodyguard, to mislead the Germans as to the date and location of the main Allied landings. The weather on D-Day was far from ideal, but postponing would have meant a delay of at least two weeks, as the invasion planners set conditions regarding the phase of the moon, the tides, and the time of day that meant only a few days in each month were deemed suitable. Hitler placed German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel in command of German forces and of developing fortifications along the Atlantic Wall in anticipation of an Allied invasion. The amphibious landings were preceded by extensive aerial and naval bombardment and an airborne assault—the landing of 24,000 British, US, and Canadian airborne troops shortly after midnight. Allied infantry and armoured divisions began landing on the coast of France starting at 06:30. The target 50-mile (80 km) stretch of the Normandy coast was divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword Beach. Strong winds blew the landing craft east of their intended positions, particularly at Utah and Omaha. The men landed under heavy fire from gun emplacements overlooking the beaches, and the shore was mined and covered with obstacles such as wooden stakes, metal tripods, and barbed wire, making the work of the beach clearing teams difficult and dangerous. Casualties were heaviest at Omaha, with its high cliffs. At Gold, Juno, and Sword, several fortified towns were cleared in house-to-house fighting, and two major gun emplacements at Gold were disabled using specialised tanks. The Allies failed to achieve all of their goals on the first day. Carentan, St. Lô, and Bayeux remained in German hands, and Caen, a major objective, was not captured until 21 July. Only two of the beaches (Juno and Gold) were linked on the first day, and all five bridgeheads were not connected until 12 June. However, the operation gained a foothold that the Allies gradually expanded over the coming months. German casualties on D-Day were around 1,000 men. Allied casualties were at least 12,000, with 4,414 confirmed dead. Museums, memorials, and war cemeteries in the area host many visitors each year. This holidaymaker got the shock of his life as he soaked up rays on a beach in Heligoland, an island in northern Germany. Pilot Juergen Drucker, 52, came within inches of colliding with the man as he flew his Piper PA-28-181 Archer II along the coast. Seconds after passing over the man the plane hit a fence and then ploughed across a section of the beach before coming to rest on the runway. He said: 'It was me that was flying and I am really sorry. I have to say, as the pictures show, that it wasn't one of my greatest achievements in the cockpit. 'In my defence I can say that I didn't see him because he was lying down and I'm just very grateful it worked out well and I didn't land on him. I don't want to say any more than that. I fear I will be in for a fine from the Federal Aviation Office but I hope I will be able to keep my licence.'
