Zebras in Alipore zoo,Kolkata,India
Zebras are several species of African equids (horse family) united by their distinctive black and white stripes. Their stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. They are generally social animals that live in small harems to large herds. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys, zebras have never been truly domesticated. There are three species of zebras: the plains zebra, the Grévy's zebra and the mountain zebra. The plains zebra (Equus quagga, formerly Equus burchelli ) is the most common, and has or had about six subspecies distributed across much of southern and eastern Africa. It, or particular subspecies of it, have also been known as the common zebra, the dauw, Burchell's zebra (actually the subspecies Equus quagga burchellii), Chapman's zebra, Wahlberg's zebra, Selous' zebra, Grant's zebra, Boehm's zebra and the quagga (another extinct subspecies, Equus quagga quagga). The mountain zebra (Equus zebra) of southwest Africa tends to have a sleek coat with a white belly and narrower stripes than the plains Zebra. It has two subspecies and is classified as vulnerable. Grévy's zebra (Equus grevyi) is the largest type, with a long, narrow head, making it appear rather mule-like. It is an inhabitant of the semi-arid grasslands of Ethiopia and northern Kenya. Grévy's zebra is the rarest species, and is classified as endangered. Although zebra species may have overlapping ranges, they do not interbreed. In captivity, plains zebras have been crossed with mountain zebras. The hybrid foals lacked a dewlap and resembled the plains zebra apart from their larger ears and their hindquarters pattern. Attempts to breed a Grévy's zebra stallion to mountain zebra mares resulted in a high rate of miscarriage. In captivity, crosses between zebras and other (non-zebra) equines have produced several distinct hybrids, including the zebroid, zeedonk, zony, and zorse. In certain regions of Kenya, plains zebras and Grévy's Zebra coexist, and fertile hybrids occur. are several species of African equids (horse family) united by their distinctive black and white stripes. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and donkeys, zebras have never been truly domesticated. There are three species of zebras: the plains zebra, the Grévy's zebra and the mountain zebra. The plains zebra and the mountain zebra belong to the subgenus Hippotigris, but Grévy's zebra is the sole species of subgenus Dolichohippus. The latter resembles an ass, to which it is closely related, while the former two are more horse-like. All three belong to the genus Equus, along with other living equids. The unique stripes of zebras make them one of the animals most familiar to people. They occur in a variety of habitats, such as grasslands, savannas, woodlands, thorny scrublands, mountains, and coastal hills. Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra- published: 07 Jun 2014

Donkeys feeding
The donkey or ass, Equus africanus asinus, is a domesticated member of the horse family, Equidae. The wild ancestor of the donkey is the African wild ass, E. africanus. The donkey has been used as a working animal for at least 5000 years. There are more than 40 million donkeys in the world, mostly in underdeveloped countries, where they are used principally as draught or pack animals. Working donkeys are often associated with those living at or below subsistence levels. Small numbers of donkeys are kept for breeding or as pets in developed countries. A male donkey or ass is called a jack, a female a jenny or jennet;[3][4][5] a young donkey is a foal.[5] Jack donkeys are often used to produce mules. Asses were first domesticated around 3000 BC, probably in Egypt or Mesopotamia,[6] [7] and have spread around the world. They continue to fill important roles in many places today. While domesticated species are increasing in numbers, the African wild ass and another relative, the onager, are endangered. As beasts of burden and companions, asses and donkeys have worked together with humans for millennia. Cavalos de Raça ! (Horse Race)
The horse (Latin caballu) hipomorfo is a mammal of the order of ungulates, one of three subspecies of modern species Equus ferus. The name for females is mare for uncastrated male stud and puppies, colt. This large ungulate is a member of the same family of donkeys and zebras to horses. All seven members of the Equidae family are of the same genus, Equus, and can relate to and produce hybrids, not fertile, like mules. Belong to the order Perissodactyla, which is why relatives of rhinos and tapirs, or tapirs. These animals depend on speed to escape predators. They are social animals, living in groups led by matriarchs. The horses wear an elaborate body language to communicate with each other, which humans can learn to understand to improve communication with these animals. Its life time ranges from 25 to 40. The horse had, for long, an important role in transportation; was like riding or pulling a carriage, a wagon, a stagecoach, a tram, etc..; Also in agricultural work, such as animals for plowing, etc.. as well as food. Until the mid-twentieth century, armies used horses so intense wars: soldiers still call the group of machines which now took the place of horses in the battlefield "cavalry units", sometimes keeping traditional names (Lord Strathcona Horse , etc.). As a curiosity, the fastest horse breed, the famous thoroughbred (English Thoroughbred or PSI) achieves the incredible average speed of 17 m / s (~ 60 km / h).
