More than 25,000 Indian Shia Muslims are on standby to fly to Iraq and defend its holy shrines, one of the country\'s largest Shia organisations claimed today.
There are more than 50 million Shia Muslims in India whose leaders have close ties to Iran and Iraq, home of their faith\'s holiest shrines.
Their recruitment campaign to defend the Shia-led Iraqi government of prime minister Nouri Maliki mirrors the recruitment of his militant Sunni insurgents in Britain and Europe. Three Sunni volunteers who appeared in a recruitment video last week included two young men from Cardiff and one who grew up in Aberdeen.

The drive to lure protagonists from each side of the rift in Islam, including Iraq\'s Shia Mahdi Army fighters returning from Syria, highlights the potential for the conflict to become the biggest Sunni-Shia sectarian battle since Saddam Hussein\'s forces invaded Ayatollah Khomeini\'s Shia revolution in Iran in 1980.
Isis leaders have vowed to take their insurgency to Karbala and Najaf, home of two of Shia Islam\'s holiest shrines, where they claim they have \

Three years ago, millions of Egyptians took to the streets in protest against then-president Hosni Mubarak. The people\'s revolution was successful in its initial aim, ousting the leader from his post after an almost 30-year rule, and paved the way for the country\'s first ever democratic election. However, one year after Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed Morsi came to power, tens of thousands of Egyptians once again began pouring into Cairo\'s Tahrir Square to demand that their first democratically elected president step down from office.

After over seven months of demonstrations, the army announced the end of Morsi\'s presidency in what has since been labelled a coup. The military-led interim government haven\'t been able to bring peace to the country. Various factions have remained on the streets, fighting for their own specific causes. Some are pro-Muslim Brotherhood, while others are members of groups like the April 6 Youth Movement, who are opposed to Mubarak, Morsi and the current military leaders. Then there are the military supporters, who are calling for Head General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to run for president.

Meanwhile, Egypt\'s interim leader, Adly Mansour along with General Sisi, has cracked down on any form of public dissent, labelling opposition groups as terrorists and restricting protests. Hundreds of activists and oppositionists have been killed in clashes with security forces, and thousands more have been arrested.

As Egypt finds itself more fractured than ever and slowly falling back into an autocratic rule, VICE News spent time on the streets of Cairo in the build-up to the third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution, investigating the army and interim government\'s efforts to crack down on dissent.

Ukraine Crisis: Obama Presses Putin To Stem Flow Of Arms

US President Barack Obama has urged his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to stop the flow of weapons into Ukraine and halt support for separatists.

The White House said that in the phone call Mr Obama warned of further sanctions if Moscow failed to act.

The Kremlin says Mr Putin urged direct talks between Kiev and the rebels in the east. Russia denies arming them.

The separatists have said they will observe a truce initiated by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

The week-long ceasefire - part of a 15-point peace plan announced by Mr Poroshenko last week - is due to expire on Friday.

Late on Monday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters: \

June 24, 2014 - Only days after an explosion in the Lebanese Bekaa shattered the calm which had prevailed in the Arab country for months, another bomb rocked the entrance to the southern suburbs of Beirut causing casualties.
The explosion happened near an army checkpoint and a cafe where football fans were watching the World Cup. After suffering consecutive defeats in Syria, Takfiri militants swore to avenge their losses especially in Shia areas known for their loyalty to Lebanon\'s resistance movement Hezbollah. A Hezbollah MP told Press TV that these bombings are a result of state sponsored terrorism. Lebanon has been the scene of numerous car bomb and rocket attacks by Takfiri militants and insurgents operating in Syria which have diminished since the Syrian Army and Hezbollah fighters took control of Syrian areas at the Lebanese border. Despite the fact that today\'s explosion can score no political Points, what seems to be a fresh round of bombings by Takfiri militants perhaps serves as an attempt to merely put Lebanon in a state of chaos after having somewhat achieved that goal in Iraq.

25 000 Indians Ready to Fight In Iraq to Defend Shia Holy Sites

More than 25,000 Indian Shia Muslims are on standby to fly to Iraq and defend its holy shrines, one of the country's largest Shia organisations claimed today. There are more than 50 million Shia Muslims in India whose leaders have close ties to Iran and Iraq, home of their faith's holiest shrines. The drive to lure protagonists from each side of the rift in Islam, including Iraq's Shia Mahdi Army fighters returning from Syria, highlights the potential for the conflict to become the biggest Sunni-Shia sectarian battle since Saddam Hussein's forces invaded Ayatollah Khomeini's Shia revolution in Iran in 1980. Isis leaders have vowed to take their insurgency to Karbala and Najaf, home of two of Shia Islam's holiest shrines, where they claim they have "scores to settle".

Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News Three years ago, millions of Egyptians took to the streets in protest against then-president Hosni Mubarak. The people's revolution was successful in its initial aim, ousting the leader from his post after an almost 30-year rule, and paved the way for the country's first ever democratic election. However, one year after Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed Morsi came to power, tens of thousands of Egyptians once again began pouring into Cairo's Tahrir Square to demand that their first democratically elected president step down from office. After over seven months of demonstrations, the army announced the end of Morsi's presidency in what has since been labelled a coup. The military-led interim government haven't been able to bring peace to the country. Meanwhile, Egypt's interim leader, Adly Mansour along with General Sisi, has cracked down on any form of public dissent, labelling opposition groups as terrorists and restricting protests. Hundreds of activists and oppositionists have been killed in clashes with security forces, and thousands more have been arrested. As Egypt finds itself more fractured than ever and slowly falling back into an autocratic rule, VICE News spent time on the streets of Cairo in the build-up to the third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution, investigating the army and interim government's efforts to crack down on dissent. "As the votes were tallied for the 2008 presidential election, conservative pundit William Bennett weighed in on the election's significance. "I'll tell you one thing it means, as a former secretary of education," Bennett said on CNN. "You don't take any excuses anymore from anybody who says, 'The deck is stacked.'" Bennett, who is white, suggested that if Barack Obama could become president, so could any black man. Implicit in the argument was that systemic racial discrimination was no longer keeping black men and women from success."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Gina Grad break it down. *Read more here from http://www.thenation.com/blog/180214/surprise-study-finds-people-dont-understand-how-racism-works ********** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Ukraine Crisis: Obama Presses Putin To Stem Flow Of Arms US President Barack Obama has urged his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to stop the flow of weapons into Ukraine and halt support for separatists. Late on Monday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters: "The president spoke to President Putin and once again urged him to support peace instead of allowing the provision of arms and materiel across the border and continuing support for militants and separatists who are further destabilising the situation in Ukraine." The explosion happened near an army checkpoint and a cafe where football fans were watching the World Cup. After suffering consecutive defeats in Syria, Takfiri militants swore to avenge their losses especially in Shia areas known for their loyalty to Lebanon's resistance movement Hezbollah. Despite the fact that today's explosion can score no political Points, what seems to be a fresh round of bombings by Takfiri militants perhaps serves as an attempt to merely put Lebanon in a state of chaos after having somewhat achieved that goal in Iraq.
