Timo Antero Kotipelto (born March 15, 1969 in Lappajärvi, Finland) is the vocalist of the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius and is the creator and vocalist of the power metal band Kotipelto. Kotipelto is currently the longest standing member of Stratovarius, after the departure of Timo Tolkki.
He studied vocals at the pop/jazz conservatory in Helsinki, briefly singing for an amateur cover band named Filthy Asses. In summer of 1994, he applied to Stratovarius, who were looking for a singer at the time, and was accepted. His arrival corresponds closely with the band's rise to international fame. The first album he recorded with the band was Fourth Dimension, in 1995. Stratovarius has then become a top name in the European heavy metal scene, recording seven more albums and performing in numerous notable rock festivals.
In late 2003, Kotipelto split from Stratovarius after intra-band disagreements, notably with guitarist Timo Tolkki. After much turmoil throughout 2004, he rejoined the band in January 2005, recorded the album Stratovarius, and performed live on tour that covered North America, South America, Europe and Asia. In 2008 Timo Tolkki made public that he and Timo Kotipelto had arguments but Koltipelto never really left the band and the announcement that he left was part of a big publicity stunt.

Michael Kiske (born January 24, 1968 in Hamburg, Germany) is a singer best known as the lead vocalist for the German power metal band Helloween, from 1986 to 1993. From 1996 up to 2009, Kiske recorded four solo albums, participated on various metal and rock related projects, while he also performed with numerous bands as a guest vocalist. In late 2009, he formed the rock band Unisonic and began touring again after 17 years.
Prior to joining Helloween, Kiske sang with the German band Ill Prophecy at the age of 17. The band recorded a demo, but it was never released commercially.
At the age of eighteen, Kiske was asked to join the German power metal band Helloween, which was fronted by singer/guitarist Kai Hansen. Hansen had some difficulties being both the lead guitarist and lead vocalist, and it was decided that a new vocalist would be needed. Kiske rejected Helloween's first offer, due to his dislike of the sound of the band's Walls Of Jericho album, but accepted the second and joined Helloween in late 1986. Michael's first album with the band was 1987's Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1, widely considered to be one of Helloween's best albums and a milestone in the creation of the power metal genre. The band went on to release Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II in 1988, whose worldwide success enabled them to embark on a world tour and perform at famous festivals such as Monsters Of Rock. The Keeper of the Seven Keys albums proved to be highly influential and aided in the formation of a new wave of European power metal bands, such as Blind Guardian,Stratovarius,HammerFall and Edguy.

The new album "Nemesis" unites all the best traits of the band's melodic, powerful, fresh and technically elaborated metal, all spiced up with an incredible sense of melody.
The album was produced and mixed by Matias Kupiainen and mastered by Mika Jussila (Finnvox studios) who has a long history with the band.
"Nemesis" has a dark and more modern sound compared to the band's last album "Elysium". It clearly shows how much the band has matured and grown as songwriters. At the same time, the band focused all their attention and work into creating and recording "Nemesis". Singer Timo Kotipelto has spent three weeks recording the vocals in a cottage in the Finnish countryside.
Matias Kupiainen adds: "I have more or less lived in the studio for four months, obsessing over every detail. I feel very relieved that we are done and I am very happy with the material and the sound."
Timo Kotipelto agrees: "Making the album this time was easier because we gave it as much time as it needed. We have worked our asses off to make this and we hope the fans will like it."
Without doubt, the fans will love it! The album has it all. From the typical melodic and powerful Stratovarius sound in "Abandon", to the aggressive and energetic "Stand My Ground", the album represents the new style of the band mixed with good old melodic power metal.
Stratovarius´ musical approach is today wider and richer than ever. The song "Fantasy" sounds almost ABBA-esque with its catchy pop tune, but it´s powered by the famous Stratovarius metal sound, louder than ever.
"Out Of The Fog" integrates some folk music elements, with lyrics telling the story of a young person forced to march blindly into battle.
The only ballad on the album, "If The Story Is Over", is a very emotional song with a grand arrangement that builds up to using the full band and ends with a small female choir.
The title track "Nemesis" is a typical Stratovarius song, with echoes of medieval melodies with powerful double bass drumming and the catchy pop melodies from this side of the millennium.
Says Timo Kotipelto: "The title track of the album; with its modern twist on the myth of Nemesis, it tells a story of a preacher who gives each one what they deserve, good or bad. The song has a very nice riff, cool melodies and a great good old Stratovarius style chorus."
All songs revolve around the leading track "Unbreakable", a very melodic song with a soft piano intro in contrast to the heavy riffing that the album would display later on. This song is also the title song of the limited edition EP "Unbreakable", to be released January 25th, 2013.

Stratovarius are hailed as one of the most influential and successful Melodic Metal bands in the world and they have managed to establish themselves as one of metal scene's heavy names.
The new album "Nemesis" unites all the best traits of the band's melodic, powerful, fresh and technically elaborated metal, all spiced up with an incredible sense of melody.
The album was produced and mixed by Matias Kupiainen and mastered by Mika Jussila (Finnvox studios) who has a long history with the band.
"Nemesis" has a dark and more modern sound compared to the band's last album "Elysium". It clearly shows how much the band has matured and grown as songwriters. At the same time, the band focused all their attention and work into creating and recording "Nemesis". Singer Timo Kotipelto has spent three weeks recording the vocals in a cottage in the Finnish countryside.
Matias Kupiainen adds: "I have more or less lived in the studio for four months, obsessing over every detail. I feel very relieved that we are done and I am very happy with the material and the sound."
Timo Kotipelto agrees: "Making the album this time was easier because we gave it as much time as it needed. We have worked our asses off to make this and we hope the fans will like it."
Without doubt, the fans will love it! The album has it all. From the typical melodic and powerful Stratovarius sound in "Abandon", to the aggressive and energetic "Stand My Ground", the album represents the new style of the band mixed with good old melodic power metal.
Stratovarius´ musical approach is today wider and richer than ever. The song "Fantasy" sounds almost ABBA-esque with its catchy pop tune, but it´s powered by the famous Stratovarius metal sound, louder than ever.
"Out Of The Fog" integrates some folk music elements, with lyrics telling the story of a young person forced to march blindly into battle.
The only ballad on the album, "If The Story Is Over", is a very emotional song with a grand arrangement that builds up to using the full band and ends with a small female choir.
The title track "Nemesis" is a typical Stratovarius song, with echoes of medieval melodies with powerful double bass drumming and the catchy pop melodies from this side of the millennium.
Says Timo Kotipelto: "The title track of the album; with its modern twist on the myth of Nemesis, it tells a story of a preacher who gives each one what they deserve, good or bad. The song has a very nice riff, cool melodies and a great good old Stratovarius style chorus."
All songs revolve around the leading track "Unbreakable", a very melodic song with a soft piano intro in contrast to the heavy riffing that the album would display later on. This song is also the title song of the limited edition EP "Unbreakable", to be released January 25th, 2013.

Second part of my travel video diary. In this we make it from Kuta, Bali to Padang Bai, then across the sea to Lombok, mostly unknown little brother of Bali, and we didn't get good general recommendations of Lombok but decided to go anyway. We searched our guide book and decided to go for the place that had the shortest description on the book. The place was Gili Gede, an off-the-grid island on the southwest peninsula. It was far less marketed than the Gili islands (Meno, Air and Trawangan) in northwest. The experience was a stereotypical by-the-book visit to a rural and poor area. You know energetic kids making faces, everyone smiling, someone offering something as a gift. Second part of my travel video diary. In this we make it from Kuta, Bali to Padang Bai, then across the sea to Lombok, mostly unknown little brother of Bali, and we didn't get good general recommendations of Lombok but decided to go anyway. The experience was a stereotypical by-the-book visit to a rural and poor area. You know energetic kids making faces, everyone smiling, someone offering something as a gift. There was no sight of the uncomfortable feeling that I had in Kuta where the interaction with locals is more about the blunt routine of selling something.
Along with the joy of experiencing something "genuine" there was the weighing consciousness about the place soon being "ruined" by tourists like me. This is a classic traveller's dilemma and I still don't know what to think about it. Certainly I'm not keeping the place secret by making a video about the island. Some hotel was just about to open a straight speedboat connection to the island so that the trip from Bali would take about two hours, four times faster than our trip. That will probably change the whole island. It was clear that locals wanted tourists there to push their economy and I really hope that all goes well and a good portion of the money flow ends up to the pockets of those wonderful locals.

Second part of my travel video diary. In this we make it from Kuta, Bali to Padang Bai, then across the sea to Lombok, mostly unknown little brother of Bali, and we didn't get good general recommendations of Lombok but decided to go anyway. We searched our guide book and decided to go for the place that had the shortest description on the book. The place was Gili Gede, an off-the-grid island on the southwest peninsula. It was far less marketed than the Gili islands (Meno, Air and Trawangan) in northwest.
The experience was a stereotypical by-the-book visit to a rural and poor area. You know energetic kids making faces, everyone smiling, someone offering something as a gift. There was no sight of the uncomfortable feeling that I had in Kuta where the interaction with locals is more about the blunt routine of selling something.
Along with the joy of experiencing something "genuine" there was the weighing consciousness about the place soon being "ruined" by tourists like me. This is a classic traveller's dilemma and I still don't know what to think about it. Certainly I'm not keeping the place secret by making a video about the island. Some hotel was just about to open a straight speedboat connection to the island so that the trip from Bali would take about two hours, four times faster than our trip. That will probably change the whole island. It was clear that locals wanted tourists there to push their economy and I really hope that all goes well and a good portion of the money flow ends up to the pockets of those wonderful locals.

In the evening we organize a night tour is through an Ice Canyon in Jasper National Park. Incredible icefalls where you often find iceclimbers. An amazing dream landscape. In summer, you cannot go down to the bottom, however, since then there are big raging rivers.
We also try ice-skating in the dark, which is quite normal in Canada. And our hockey, the Canadians can only smile about our efforts...

North Korea 'fires submarine-launched ballistic missile'

North Korea appears to have fired a ballistic missile from a submarine off its eastern coast, South Korea says. It is not clear whether the test was authentic, and if it was, whether it will be considered a success by the North. A successful test would be significant because submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) are hard to detect.
