The chief objective of this project is to highlight the known as well as lesser-known places of Gujarat to attract tourists not only from within Gujarat, but also from elsewhere in India and around the world. The project also showcases the diversity of Gujarati culture including its traditions, cuisine, lifestyle, apparel, religions, sculptures, history and heritage. “Asmita Gujarat Ki” is a Docudrama that is a first-of-its-kind pioneer project that weaves fiction with non-fiction. The docudrama presents a beautiful story that captures the viewers’ interest while moving them through the various destinations of Gujarat. Such an effort of presenting a travel programme along with a fiction storyline, that too in Hindi, has never been done in Gujarat ever before. The story revolves around the character of Abhishek, a young boy who is born and raised in an NRI Gujarati family living in the United States of America. Persuaded by his father, Abhishek reluctantly visits his grandfather and relatives in Ahmedabad. Initially, he is unaware and disinterested in Gujarat. But slowly, with time, he falls in love with everything about his ancestral motherland. The rituals, the places, the people and their Gujarati way of life fascinate him. Various incidents and conflicts occur in Abhishek’s life that become major turning points in his life and cause him to explore Gujarat and experience every facet of it. Eventually, he gets so attached to his family; to his Gujarat; to his childhood friend and love interest Krishna, that he seriously questions his return to the United States. Will Abhishek choose America or Gujarat? Will the NRI kid leave his parents to settle in India? Will he choose the West over East? His career over love? The docudrama reveals a wonderful ending of how Abhishek finds a way out of his dilemma.
