SHEFFIELD TOUR | THE MOOR to BARKERS POOL in Sheffield City Centre A quick Sheffield Tour of the shops on The Moor up to John Lewis in Barkers Pool and a look around the streets currently being developed and improved as part of the new retail quarter in Sheffield City Centre. The Moor Quarter is one of Sheffield's twelve designated quarters, built around and named for The Moor, a pedestrianised thoroughfare. It is bound by Furnival Gate in the north-east, Eyre Street in the south-east, St Mary's Gate to the south, and Moore Street and Charter Row to the north-west. We most from the top of The Moor across Furnival Gate and head up Pinstone Street before crossing over to Charles Street where we see the site of the old Athol hotel. Walking up Charles Street this Sheffield tour continues as we pass the building that once houses Pollards Tea Shop before reaching the old Henry's Wine Bar building on Cambridge Street where we turn to walk up towards Barkers Pool. Barker's Pool is a public city square and street in the centre of the City of Sheffield, England. The focus of Barker's Pool is the Grade II* listed 90-foot-tall (27 m) war memorial that was unveiled on 28 October 1925 to commemorate the First World War. The Grade II* listed Sheffield City Hall is on the north side of the plaza facing a branch of the John Lewis Partnership, formerly Cole Brothers, on nearby Fargate. At this point of this walk through the city of Sheffield we have John Lewis department store on our right and across the road we see Chubby's takeaway that's famous for it's chips and cheese for all the pub and club revellers turning out in the early hours of the morning! We finally reach Barkers Pool and Sheffield City Hall and the War Monument outside John Lewis (formerly known as Cole Brothers). Sheffield City Hall was opened in 1932 and has featured so many famous stars from The Beatles to Jimi Hendrix and One Direction. Many Sheffield bands have played here too from The Human League to Pulp to Def Leppard. For a final part of this Sheffield walk we head down Burgess Street to take a look at The Yorkshireman Rock Bar and finally The Athol Hotel rear entrance with it's colourful facade.
