Sikh music (shabad kirtan) began in the 16th century as the musical expression of mystical poetry conceived by the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak. Following him, all the Sikh gurus sang in the then-prevalent classical and folk music styles, accompanied by stringed and percussion instruments. The style was where the text was of prime significance and the music played a supporting, albeit important, role. The Gurus specified the raag in which they sang each hymn in the Sikh sacred scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib. Thirty-one raags were and thirty-one raag variants were named.^{[citation needed]} Several raag variants are unique to the Sikh music tradition.^{[citation needed]}

While Hindustani music underwent significant changes in the setting of Mughal courts, and a separate stream of Carnatic music developed in southern India, Sikh music retained its original form and styles, a unique musical tradition encompassing a variety of melodic forms and a well-developed percussive system.^{[citation needed]}

Miss Pooja is an Indian singer. She was born on 4 December 1980 as Gurinder Kaur Kainth. Before she embarked on her professional singing career, she received a Master's degree in music and worked as a music teacher in Patel Public School in Rajpura, India. She chose Miss Pooja as her professional name because "Pooja" was her childhood nickname.

She is widely regarded as having revived Punjabi duet songs. During the late 1980s to the early 21st century, Punjabi duet songs were often given second place by DJs. However, Miss Pooja's duets often get played at the top of the party. She has become the largest-selling female bhangra artist in India and overseas. A partial reason for her success is the rapid increase in the number of songs that she continues to record. She has released duets with more than 70 different male singers.

Miss Pooja started her career with Darshan Khella and released the album Jaan to Piyari; it was released in January 2006. Since then she has recorded duets with other artists on over 2,000 songs and released over 350 albums.

Diljit (born 6 January 1984; as Diljit Singh Dosanjh) is a Punjabi singer and film actor.

Diljit Dosanjh debuted with his album Ishq Da Uda Ada. It was released by T-Series. He has come out with 6 albums so far.His most successful album, The Next Level is also his most recent.

Diljit made his acting debut in the Punjabi action flick, The Lion of Punjab which opened to negative reviews from critics, though managed to end up successful at the box office. In 2011, he starred in the critically acclaimed Jihne Mera Dil Luteya which turned out to be a critical and commercial blockbuster. Critics praised Diljit's comic performance in the film. In February 2012 he was seen in the Hindi romance film Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, in which he appeared in a guest appearance through the song "Pee Pa Pee Pa" which he also sang. His first official release of 2012 is announced to be a love story Jatt & Juliet opposite Neeru Bajwa, it's currently under-production, and will be released on 29 June 2012. His next Jatt Romantic pairs him opposite Neeru Bajwa again and is directed by leading Bollywood director Dharmesh Darshan.

Flying Lotus (born Steven Ellison) is an experimental multi-genre music producer from Winnetka, California. His debut album, 1983, was released on Plug Research Records in 2006. He produced much of the bumper music on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block, for which he is uncredited, and he also contributed remixes for fellow Plug Research artists including Mia Doi Todd. He is often referred to as FlyLo by fans and critics. His grandmother was songwriter Marilyn McLeod. He is the great-nephew of the late Alice Coltrane, whose husband was John Coltrane. He is also the cousin of musician Ravi Coltrane.

In 2007, he announced that he signed with Warp Records. Following his Warp debut, the six-track Reset EP, he quickly became one of the label’s cornerstone artists and released his second album, titled Los Angeles, on June 10, 2008. In 2008, Flying Lotus also remixed "Reckoner" from Radiohead's album In Rainbows. His third album, Cosmogramma, was released on May 3, 2010, in the UK and May 4, 2010, in the US. In January 2011, Cosmogramma won in the Dance/Electronica Album category in the 10th Annual Independent Music Awards.

On August 5, 2012, a mass shooting took place at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, with a single gunman killing six people and wounding four others. The gunman, Wade Michael Page, a white supremacist, shot several people at the temple, including a responding police officer. After being shot in the stomach by another officer, Page fatally shot himself in the head.

The incident drew notable reactions from President Barack Obama and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and dignitaries attended candlelight vigils in both the U.S. and India.First Lady Michelle Obama visited the temple on August 23, 2012.

Following emergency calls around 10:25 a.m. CDT, police responded to a shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, a Sikh gurdwara located in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Upon arrival, they engaged the gunman, later identified as Wade Michael Page, who had shot several people at the temple, killing six. Page wounded one officer, then was shot in the stomach by another; he then fatally shot himself in the head. He was armed with a Springfield XD(M) 9-millimeter semi-automatic pistol. The gun was legally purchased by Page in Wisconsin. Four people were killed inside the temple, and three people, including Page, died outside. Page killed five men and one woman, ranging in age from 39 to 84. Three men were transported to Froedtert Hospital, including one of the responding officers.
