Iran five new military achievements April 20, 2014_پنج دستاورد جديد نظامي ايران 31 فروردين 1393
April 20, 2014 (Persian calendar 1393/1/31) The Iranian Army unveils its latest homemade machine gun as the West continues more than three decades of arms embargos against the Islamic Republic. The six-barrel 12.7mm Gatling-type machine gun dubbed Moharram has a firing rate of 2,000-2,500 rounds per minute and can be mounted on air, sea and ground vehicles. Moharram is one out of five new weapons and defense equipment unveiled by the research and self sufficiency Jihad Organization of the Iranian army. The other new product is a smart composite armor made of Shear Thickening Fluid or (STF). The liquid substance can resist steel core anti-armor bullets and has been developed according to international standards. The Iranian Army also unveiled a home-made battle tank dubbed Sabalan; a modified version of former Iran made Zolfaqar and Samsam battle tanks. According to its builders the tank's 105mm smoothbore gun uses state-of-the-art fire control system and sophisticated communications apparatus. A 155mm Howitzer dubbed Hoveyzeh and a super heavy five axle vehicle named Zoljanah were two other military pieces that were showcased at the ceremony. The Islamic Republic is facing an arms embargo for more than three decades and currently has one of the smallest annual military budgets in the region with just less than 6.5 billion dollars. Iran felt the need to create an indigenous defense technology during the 1980 to 1988 Iraq-Iran war when Iranian troops were faced with Saddam Hussein's war machine that was mobilized by the West and the Soviet Union with the support of countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.- published: 20 Apr 2014

Nature Day commemorated in Iran on 13th day of spring
Sizdah-bedar is the name of a festival in Persian Culture. Sizdah is the Persian term for thirteen. Leaving the house on the Thirteenth Day of the first month of Iranian calendar, and joyfully spending the day outdoors have been a national tradition since ancient times in Iran. Iranians come to nature to celebrate Sizdah Bedar, also called Nature Day. Nature Day is the name of an old tradition that has been celebrated by the Persians as far back as 536 BC. On this day Iranians head for parks, gardens or country sides, and enjoy their day together in a picnic. Nature day gives Iranians a chance to come to nature, play games, have food and perform many activities and enjoy the fresh smell of spring. But people also do their best to leave no trace in the environment. Garbage bags are distributed among them to remind them of the importance of keeping the nature clean. One of the popular traditions of Nature Day is the knotting of blades of grass by the young unmarried girls in the hope to marry soon and expressing their wish and hope for good fortune in life and love. The essence of the Sizdah Bedar ceremonies is the enthusiasm to set up a family, lead a happy life and form friendship.- published: 03 Apr 2014

Iranian Nahid Satellite to Launch Within 3 Months
Iran will unveil the Nahid Satellite on February 2, when marks the national day of space technology, IRNA quoted Iran Space Agency (ISA) director Hamid Fazeli as saying. He added that the satellite will be launched into orbit by the end of the first half of the next Iranian calendar year (September 21, 2013). Earlier this month, Fazeli said that Iran will soon send a monkey into space aboard the Pishgam (Pioneer) rocket. Fazeli also said that the Islamic Republic will also put the satellites Nahid and Sharif sat of Sharif University of Technology into orbit by the end of the Iranian calendar year, March 20. He went on to say that Iranian space scientists are doing research to develop the technology to unfold solar panels through sending the Nahid satellite into space. Iran has already sent three satellites into space. On February 3, the country successfully launched its third domestically manufactured satellite, named the Navid (Promise), into orbit. The Safir one satellite carrier rocket was used to launch the Navid research satellite. Ninth International Robocup Competition in Iran 2014 نهمين دوره مسابقات بين المللي روبوكاپ ايران
April 13, 2014 (Persian calendar 1393/1/24) Iran's 9th International Robocup Open Competition has wrapped up in the Iranian capital city, Tehran, with participants praising the world-class quality of the events. More than 2,000 students from 22 countries took part in the two-day competitions, which kicked off in Tehran on Wednesday. "Over the past ten years, we have made a lot of progress and it makes me filled with pride to know that the medals we have won in international competitions has led us to this point where we are holding Robocup competitions in Iran," said Secretary of the 9th RoboCup Open Competition Morteza Mousakhani (مرتضي موسي خاني) during the closing ceremony of the event. Professors of Robotics from the world's renowned universities, including University of Amsterdam and Stanford University, who participated at the event told reporter that the competition was held up to international standards. The competition was held in different sections, including humanoids, deminers, flying robots and rescuers. By far, the most popular competition has been soccer, which was set up with the aim of creating a team of humanoid robots by 2050. The robot soccer players must act autonomously and cannot get help from their handlers. Instead, they communicate via wi-fi to co-ordinate teamwork. Robotics researchers believe that, within 40 years, a robotic soccer team will take to the field that will be able to defeat humans. The Iranian RoboCup National Committee was officially formed in July 2006 with the main objective of promoting robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) research. The committee annually supports the organization of RoboCup Iran Open Competition and symposium, where Iranian and foreign researchers meet to exchange their recent research achievements.- published: 13 Apr 2014
