One Step Beyond - Doomsday
Produced at the same time as the more well-known Twilight Zone, this series fed the nation's growing interest in paranormal suspense in a different way. Rather than creating fictional stories with supernatural twists and turns, this program sought out 'real' stories of the supernatural, including ghosts, disappearances, monsters, etc., and re-creating them for each episode. No solutions to these mysteries were ever found, and viewers could only scratch their heads and wonder, "what if it's real?" Tonight's Story "Doomsday" A poor, pretty, village woman living ancient England is sentenced to be burned at the stake, for the natural death of her lover, the son of an Earl. So she shouts out a curse that the oldest son of every generation to come of the Earl will die before the father. Cast John Newland ... Himself - Host Donald Harron ... Svengali John Barrymore1931 film
Sinister music maestro Svengali can control the actions of women through hypnotism and his telepathic powers. When a pupil he has seduced announces she has left her husband for him, he uses his powers to cause her suicide and promptly forgets her. He meets a beautiful model, Trilby, and becomes infatuated with her, but she, in turn, falls for a young artist called Billee who also loves her. One day Svengali hypnotizes Trilby to cure her headache, but also examines her upper palate and decides it is an ideal cavity for great singing. He convinces her to fake her suicide, so Billee and friends will forget her, and goes on a singing tour with her. Svengali uses his powers to make her sing wonderfully and Madame Svengali, as Trilby is now known, becomes a sensation throughout Europe. But Billee discovers the ruse and begins to follow the pair, upsetting Svengali enough to have him cancel performances too frequently. Source Arthur Hausner Directed by Archie Mayo Written by J. Madame Curie - Legendado (Português - BR) Filme Biográfico de 1943
