The Arab Spring: Three years on
Three years ago today, on 14 January 2011, Tunisia's former president and dictator Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali stepped down after 23 years in power following an unprecedented wave of mass protests. This shock turn of events kicked into motion a snowball effect throughout the region and soon anti-government protests had spread to Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. But three years, four deposed leaders and hundreds of thousands of deaths later, where are the so-called "Arab Spring" countries now? Arab Spring in Two Minutes
Arab Spring in Two Minutes
Site: http://globalguide.com.br/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/globalguidev... Twitter: https://twitter.com/GlobalGuideBr The Arab Spring is the revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests occurring in the Middle East and in Northern Africa since 2010. The economic crisis led the population of several countries to defy their authoritarian governments. It all started in Tunisia, in the end of 2010, when Mohamed Bouazizi, desperate with the lack of perspectives in his country, set himself afire. His action caused commotion and protests throughout the country, culminating in 2011 with the resignation of president Ben Ali, who had been in power for 23 years. Influenced by the revolt in Tunisia, the Libyans stood up against the Muammar Gaddafi rule. Gaddafi had some disagreements with Western leaders, who embraced the opportunity to intervene militarily in his country, helping rebels to overthrow the former ruler. This intervention caused such disorder that Libya remains unstable to this day. In Egypt, the population revolted against dictator Hosni Mubarak in the beginning of 2011. Mubarak promised not to run for reelections. Mohammed Morsi, from the Muslim Brotherhood, was elected, but a great part of the Egyptian people did not accept his legitimacy, which ended up creating a new wave of protests. In 2013, Morsi was ousted from power by the military, and, similarly to Libya, the situation is yet to be defined. In Yemen, protests led to the resignation of Ali Abdullah Saleh, who had been in charge for more than three decades. It is in Syria, however, that the bloodiest conflict of the Arab Spring is happening, with a Civil War between Assad's government, whose family has been in power for 46 years, and the rebels, composed by very diverse groups with often-conflicting interests. Fearing that an intervention could cause more instability, like it happened in Libya, part of the international community is against a military intervention in Syria. This paralyses the United Nations Security Council, allowing Syrians to freely fight among themselves. It is believed that more than one hundred and thirty thousand people have already died in this conflict. There were also protests in Bahrain, in Algeria, in Morocco, in Jordan and in Oman, without regime change in any of these cases. This was our brief review of the Arab Spring. Mideast Malaise: Arab Spring to spill into 2014?
The Arab Spring is about to enter its fourth year, with peace in the Middle East seeming still far off. 2013 left a bloody mark on several countries in the region. In Egypt, deadly protests and clashes between supporters and opponents of the government led to a military coup in July when President Morsi was ousted and put in prison. A chemical weapons crisis in Syria claimed over a thousand lives, and nearly triggered a U.S. intervention. It was narrowly avoided by a diplomatic solution brokered by Russia. There was also a diplomatic victory for Iran, as it reached an historic nuclear deal. Throughout the year, RT has witnessed first-hand what protesters, innocent civilians and security forces have had to endure. In September, the world held its breath as the U.S. threatened to strike Syria in response to a chemical attack which Washington blamed squarely on the Assad government. But Russia's diplomatic efforts managed to prevent the use of force and a resolution on the Syrian toxic arsenal was found. Brian Becker, director of the Anti-War ANSWER coalition, joins RT for more insight on the current state of the war-torn country. Arab Spring (Tunisia)
"Revolution sprung from the womb of the people.... Victory in the face of despots. A road painted with freedom and with change. Tunisia....Two Years Beyond the Arab Spring."
This promo was created for a special event / campaign Alhurra did for the 2nd anniversary of the Tunisian Revolution. A revolution that was the spark of multiple revolutions throughout the Middle East and North Africa, better known as the Arab Spring. The turn of the pages or the opening and closing of a window...Change is how you see it from your individual perspective. Transitions show the unfolding of events that lead to final victory for the people. This is the first creative for the 2nd anniversary campaign leading to Egypt, Libya Yemen and so on. The flag is another symbolic representation for each country.

Arab Spring Revolution
This purpose of this project was to show the importance of the sequence of events that led to widespread revolutions in the region. The use of typography in this promo reflected the link between the Tunisian and Egyptian revolutions. Like the events themselves have been forever linked in history, the words and characters in this piece link to each other.
