Suicide bombers kill at least 11 Shia Muslim pilgrims in Iraqi capital Baghdad For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS At least 24 Shia Muslim pilgrims have been killed in three bombings in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, officials say. Suicide bombers targeted pilgrims walking along main roads in the western area of Mansour and in Bab al-Sharji, in the city centre, while a car bomb exploded in Urr, an eastern district. Security had been increased to protect the tens of thousands of pilgrims going to the shrine of Moussa al-Kadhim. They are marking the anniversary of the seventh Shia imam's death in 799. Election results Thursday's deadliest attack happened in the Urr district, where a vehicle rigged with explosives blew up, killing at least 10 people, including seven children under 14 years of age, police told the Associated Press. In Mansour, a man dressed in a long, black woman's robe, or abaya, blew himself up among a crowd of pilgrims, the AFP news agency reported. At least nine people were killed. The second suicide bomber detonated a car bomb in Bab al-Sharji, killing another five. No group has said it was behind the bombings, but pilgrims are frequently targeted by extremist Sunni militants who consider Shia heretics. Earlier, three policemen and two civilians were killed when a suicide bomber drove his explosives-laden vehicle into a security checkpoint in Mishahda, about 30km (20 miles) north of the capital. The violence comes two days after the preliminary results of April's parliamentary elections showed Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's Shia-dominated State of Law alliance had won the largest number of seats. The margin of victory was greater than most analysts and politicians had forecast, and Mr Maliki is now in a strong position to secure a third term as negotiations over forming a coalition government begin. Other parties have voiced strong opposition, blaming the prime minister for the sectarian violence that has left more than 3,500 people dead this year, and accusing him of trying to monopolise power. "Shock and Awe" The Beginning of the 2003 Invasion of Iraq (CNN Live Coverage)
I can't stop the ads. I wish I could. This is a recording I made of CNN's coverage of the "Shock and Awe" campaign conducted at that time. I copied this off of my VHS tape. I'm merely uploading this for historical purposes. Most tapes I see of this are only about ten minutes long. This is just over two hours. It covers from 8:19 PM to around 10:30 PM (Baghdad local time). The "Shock and Awe" campaign starts at 9:00 PM or about 40:30 . This video includes post-bombing statements from Secretary of the State Donald Rumsfeld, and Air Force General, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Richard Myers among others. 1:17:22 This is only for historical purposes. It is in no way meant to glorify, or denounce these events. I'm not uploading this for monetary gain. I'm merely sharing this with others who may wish to see it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In his memoir, "Decision Points," Bush wrote about how he felt sick to his stomach when he found there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. "I felt terrible about it," Bush stated in 2010. "On the other hand, those reports did point out that Saddam Hussein was very dangerous, that he had the capacity to make weapons. I'm convinced that if he were still in power today, the world would be a lot worse off."- published: 20 Mar 2013

Bikes Over Baghdad Trailer
This isn’t a typical action sports film of guys doing insane tricks in remote locations (though it has that), this isn’t a story about the sacrifices our soldiers make day in and day out (though that is in there as well), and this isn’t a story of a group of friends going on an adventure (though, again, there is that). This is a story about what happens when people give for the good of others. When people put their own safety aside to make someone’s life a little better, and how selflessness can change lives.
Bikes over Baghdad ended up traveling to the middle east six seperate times with each tour roughly two weeks in length. We faced extreme conditions, mortar rounds, IED’s, injury, exhaustion and more, but we never missed a show. And while our team read like a who’s who of action sports, egos were put aside and nothing short of a series of miracles were performed.
It seems like a stretch to say riding BMX bikes for the troops could actually change their lives, but this film will show just how special of an experience this was for thousands serving in the Middle East, and hopefully it’ll serve as a reminder that we all have the power to initiate change in our own unique way.
This is Bikes over Baghdad.

HELLO BAGHDAD (2 MINUTES)
When journalist Paulien Bakker and photographer Marieke van der Velden visited Baghdad again for a report they noticed that Iraq is so much more than what we see of it in the newspapers and on television.
The media focuses exclusively on men with rifles in pickup trucks and bomb blasts. But when you turn the camera just a few degrees away from these images, you can see that life goes on despite the violence and the presence of foreign troops.
The film and photoseries shows a much neglected side of Baghdad.
These movies was shown in Baghdad during TED X Baghdad www.tedxbaghdad.com

Bombings kill at least 31 in Baghdad | BREAKING NEWS - 26 APRIL 2014 For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Bombers killed at least 31 people and wounded 56 more at a political rally in a stadium in eastern Baghdad on Friday, days ahead of parliamentary elections, two police officials said. The al Qaeda splinter group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria claimed responsibility, according to a post on a jihadist website. About 200 people attended the event, sponsored by a Shiite political group, officials told CNN. A car bomb first hit the gathering. It was followed by a suicide bomber wearing an explosives vest. Earlier, police had said two car bombs were used. Iraq has been beset with political and sectarian violence for months, often pitting Sunnis -- a minority in Iraq -- against Shiite Muslims, who came to dominate the government after Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was overthrown in 2003. Violence has escalated over the past year. The United Nations said 2013 was the deadliest year in Iraq since 2008, with more than 8,800 people killed, most of them civilians. The army and police will cast their ballots Monday in the parliamentary elections. The general public will vote Wednesday. Some 277 political entities across Iraq will compete for 328 seats of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, the country's parliament. There are 9,032 candidates.
