Biblical Heroine Queen Esther of Persia
Biblical Heroine Queen Esther of Persia
This episode explores the story of Queen Esther of Persia - considered one of the bible's greatest heroines - who reveals her Jewish identity to prevent a massacre thereby saving the Jews from destruction. (Biblical Mysteries EP15) According to the Bible, she was a Jewish queen of the Persian king Ahasuerus. Ahasuerus is traditionally identified with Xerxes I during the time of the Achaemenid empire. Her story is the basis for the celebration of Purim in Jewish tradition. Origin and meaning According to Esther 2:7, Esther was originally named Hadassah. Hadassah means "myrtle" in Hebrew. It has been conjectured that the name Esther is derived from a reconstructed Median word astra meaning myrtle. An alternative view is that Esther is derived from the theonym Ishtar. The Book of Daniel provides accounts of Jews in exile being assigned names relating to Babylonian gods and "Mordecai" is understood to mean servant of Marduk, a Babylonian god. "Esther" may have been a different Hebrew interpretation from the Proto-Semitic root "*?aθtar- 'morning/evening star'", which descended with the /th/ into the Ugaritic Athtiratu and Arabian Athtar. The derivation must then have been secondary for the initial ayin to be confused with an aleph (both represented by vowels in Akkadian), and the second consonant descended as a /s/ (like in the Aramaic asthr "bright star"), rather than a /sh/ as in Hebrew and most commonly in Akkadian. Wilson, who identified Ahasuerus with Xerxes I and Vashti with Amestris, suggested that both "Amestris" and "Esther" derived from Akkadian Ammi-Ishtar or Ummi-Ishtar. Hoschander alternatively suggested Ishtar-udda-sha ("Ishtar is her light") as the origin with the possibility of -udda-sha being connected with the similarly sounding Hebrew name Hadassah. These names however remain unattested in sources, and come from the original Babylonian Empire from 2000 BCE,[citation needed] not the Chaldean Empire or Persian Empire of the Book of Esther.[citation needed] The Targum connects the name with the Persian word for "star", ستاره setareh, explaining that Esther was so named for being as beautiful as the Morning Star. In the Talmud (Tractate Yoma 29a), Esther is compared to the "morning star", and is considered the subject of Psalm 22, because its introduction is a "song for the morning star". Interpretations Esther is considered a prophet in Judaism. She is also commemorated as a matriarch in the Calendar of Saints of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod on May 24. She is also recognized as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Dianne Tidball argues that while Vashti is a "feminist icon", Esther is a post-feminist icon. Abraham Kuyper notes some "disagreeable aspects" to her character — that she should not have agreed to take Vashti's place, that she refrained from saving her nation until her own life was threatened, and that she carries out bloodthirsty vengeance. Persian culture Given the great historical link between Persian and Jewish history, modern day Persian Jews are called "Esther's Children". A building known as the Tomb of Esther and Mordechai is located in Hamadan, Iran, although the village of Kfar Bar'am in northern Israel also claims to be the burial place of Queen Esther- published: 12 Dec 2013

Aryan peoples (Persian Empire) - Achaemenid kings
In this video you will watch Achaemenid kings (Cyrus the Great, Xerxes the Great, Darius king III, general Surena"in Parthian Empire" and ancient Persian peoples) This video is only one part of Aryan people's history, about ancient Persia and Achaemenid kings, Persian people are kindly people and they respect to all kind of people, religions and races. Here I wrote a little Persian history to read: Cyrus the Great the first king of Achaemenid Empire respected the customs and religions of the lands he conquered. Cyrus the Great in the Bible: Cyrus the Great is mentioned 23 times by name and alluded to several times more. The earliest epigraphically-attested reference to the word "Aryan people" occurs in the 6th century B.C. Behistun inscription in Iran. -Darius The Great or Darius I , Behistun Inscription's translation. "I am Darius the Great King, King of Kings, King of countries containing all kinds of men, King in this great earth far and wide, Son of Hystaspes, an Achaemenian, a Persian, Son of a Persian, an Aryan, having Aryan lineage." Van Fortress or Xerxes the Great Inscription in Turkey. Translation: "I am Xerxes, the great king, the king of kings, king of all kinds of peoples with all kinds of origins, king of this earth great and wide, the son of king Darius, the Achaemenid. King Xerxes says: King Darius, my father, by the grace of Ahuramazda built much that was good, and he gave orders to dig this niche out, but because he did not make an inscription, I ordered this inscription to be made." The world's first declaration of human rights "Cyrus Cylinder" was discovered in the ruins of Babylon in Mesopotamia and a replica of the cylinder is kept at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City as the first symbol of universal human rights. Naqsh-e Rajab is one very old rockface inscriptions in Iran that was made by Shapur I the Great, second Persian king of the Sasanian Empire in 240 CE. Here Shapur I calls himself " King of Kings of the Iranians, and non-Iranians, King of Kings of the Aryans, grandson of the divine king Papak." "In Armenian sources, the Parthians, Medes and Persians are collectively referred to as Aryans." -R.W. Thomson. History of Armenians by Moses Khorenat'si. Harvard University Press, 1978. "Xerxes The Great" King of kings of All Nations
"Xerxes The Great" King of kings of All Nations
Here is a documentary about one of the greatest rulers and conquerors of history. This documentary is based on inscriptions by "Xerxes The Great" echoing over 25 centuries to reach us. "Darius The Great" father of "Xerxes The Great" ordered that a new alphabet, the Aryan script, was to be developed. This was used for a small corpus of inscriptions, known as the Achaemenid Royal Inscriptions. One of the most important Achaemenid Royal Inscriptions is the "Daiva inscription". The Old Persian text is known from three slabs of stone from Persepolis and the citadel of Pasargadae (Elamite and Babylonian copies exist). The meaning of the word daiva, which clearly means 'demon' and looks similar to the word daeva in the Avesta, the book of Zarathustra (Zoroaster). This work is solely based on the main inscriptions by "Xerxes The Great" that have been discovered so far. Below is the translation of the "Daiva inscription": "1. A great god is Ahuramazda, who created this earth, who created yonder sky, who created man, who created happiness for man, who made Xerxes king, one king of many, one lord of many. 2. I am Xerxes, the great king, king of kings, king of countries containing many kinds of men, king in this great earth far and wide, son of king Darius, an Achaemenian, a Persian, son of a Persian, an Aryan, of Aryan stock. 3. King Xerxes says: By the grace of Ahuramazda these are the countries of which I was king apart from Persia. I had lordship over them. They bore me tribute. What was said to them by me, that they did. My law, that held them: Media, Elam, Arachosia, Armenia, Drangiana, Parthia, Aria, Bactria, Sogdia, Chorasmia, Babylonia, Assyria, Sattagydia, Lydia, Egypt, Greece, those who dwell on this side of the sea and those who dwell across the sea, men of Maka, Arabia, Gandara, India, Cappadocia, theDahae, the haoma-drinking Sacae, the Sacae wearing pointed caps, Thrace, men of Akaufaciya, Libyans, Carians, and the Nubians. 4. King Xerxes says: when I became king, there was among these countries one that was in rebellion. Ahuramazda bore me aid. By the grace of Ahuramazda I smote that country and put it down in its place. And among these countries there was a place where previously demons (daiva) were worshipped. Afterwards, by the grace of Ahuramazda I destroyed that sanctuary of demons, and I proclaimed: 'The demons shall not be worshipped!' Where previously the demons were worshipped, there I worshipped Ahuramazda at the proper time and in the proper manner. And there was other business that had been done ill. That I made good. That which I did, all I did by the grace of Ahuramazda. Ahuramazda bore me aid until I completed the work. You who may live hereafter, if you should think 'Happy may I be when living, and when dead may I be blessed,' have respect for that law which Ahuramazda has established. Worship Ahuramazda at the proper time and in the proper manner. The man who has respect for that law that Ahuramazda has established and worships Ahuramazda at the proper time and in the proper manner, he both becomes happy while alive and becomes blessed when dead. 5. King Xerxes says: May Ahuramazda protect me from harm, and my house, and this land. This I ask of Ahuramazda. This may Ahuramazda give to me." In several inscriptions "Xerxes The Great" calls himself "The King of kings of All Nations".- published: 20 Mar 2014
