U.S. President Barack Obama in American Sign Language - Real Interpreter
(TRANSCRIPT BELOW) Join U.S. President Barack Obama in his tribute to Nelson Mandela during the memorial service. Mandela was a one-of-a-kind human being who devoted his life to ending racism, poverty, and inequality. The memorial service took place on December 9th, 2013. This is our way of honoring him while bringing sign language accessibility to the Deaf community all over the world, just what Mandela would have wanted. PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT: To Graça Machel and the Mandela family; to President Zuma and members of the government; to heads of state and government, past and present; distinguished guests - it is a singular honor to be with you today, to celebrate a life unlike any other. To the people of South Africa - people of every race and walk of life - the world thanks you for sharing Nelson Mandela with us. His struggle was your struggle. His triumph was your triumph. Your dignity and hope found expression in his life, and your freedom, your democracy is his cherished legacy. It is hard to eulogize any man - to capture in words not just the facts and the dates that make a life, but the essential truth of a person - their private joys and sorrows; the quiet moments and unique qualities that illuminate someone's soul. How much harder to do so for a giant of history, who moved a nation toward justice, and in the process moved billions around the world. Born during World War I, far from the corridors of power, a boy raised herding cattle and tutored by elders of his Thembu tribe - Madiba would emerge as the last great liberator of the 20th century. Like Gandhi, he would lead a resistance movement - a movement that at its start held little prospect of success. Like King, he would give potent voice to the claims of the oppressed, and the moral necessity of racial justice. He would endure a brutal imprisonment that began in the time of Kennedy and Khrushchev, and reached the final days of the Cold War. Emerging from prison, without force of arms, he would - like Lincoln - hold his country together when it threatened to break apart. Like America's founding fathers, he would erect a constitutional order to preserve freedom for future generations - a commitment to democracy and rule of law ratified not only by his election, but by his willingness to step down from power. Given the sweep of his life, and the adoration that he so rightly earned, it is tempting then to remember Nelson Mandela as an icon, smiling and serene, detached from the tawdry affairs of lesser men. But Madiba himself strongly resisted such a lifeless portrait. Instead, he insisted on sharing with us his doubts and fears; his miscalculations along with his victories. "I'm not a saint," he said, "unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying." It was precisely because he could admit to imperfection - because he could be so full of good humor, even mischief, despite the heavy burdens he carried - that we loved him so. He was not a bust made of marble; he was a man of flesh and blood - a son and husband, a father and a friend. That is why we learned so much from him; that is why we can learn from him still. For nothing he achieved was inevitable. In the arc of his life, we see a man who earned his place in history through struggle and shrewdness; persistence and faith. He tells us what's possible not just in the pages of dusty history books, but in our own lives as well. Mandela showed us the power of action; of taking risks on behalf of our ideals. Perhaps Madiba was right that he inherited, "a proud rebelliousness, a stubborn sense of fairness" from his father. Certainly he shared with millions of black and colored South Africans the anger born of, "a thousand slights, a thousand indignities, a thousand unremembered moments...a desire to fight the system that imprisoned my people." But like other early giants of the ANC - the Sisulus and Tambos - Madiba disciplined his anger; and channeled his desire to fight into organization, and platforms, and strategies for action, so men and women could stand-up for their dignity. Moreover, he accepted the consequences of his actions, knowing that standing up to powerful interests and injustice carries a price. "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination," he said at his 1964 trial. "I've cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." Art Shay: The Sporting Life and Times
Art Shay (b. 1922) is a photographer and writer who has captured and helped define the American experience for the better part of seven decades. He shot pictures regularly for Sports Illustrated, Time, Life, Fortune, the Saturday Evening Post, Forbes, Business Week, Parade and The New York Times Magazine.
A Bronx native who now resides in Deerfield, Ill., Shay has photographed seven U.S. Presidents and other major influencers of the 20th century including such notable sports figures as Mohammad Ali, Nelson Algren and Marlon Brando. In addition to his remarkable photography, Shay has published more than 70 books on various subjects. He has also written weekly columns for various newspapers and authored several plays.
We were lucky to spend a day with Art, and I shot and edited this video as an introduction to an exhibit of his work at Hanson Dodge Creative in late June. For more information about the exhibit, visit http://hansondodge.com/shay

Return To Sender: A Video Letter to the U.S. President
This is a video letter addressed to the President of the United States of America, the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Senate, and the U.S. Supreme Court from a group of Khmer Exiled Americans (K.E.A.s).
This video letter was filmed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on March 7th, 2012.
This video was intended to be shown at "Champions of Change" event at the White House in April.
Our previous video "My Asian Americana" was a finalist for the White House AAPI's "What's Your Story" video contest. We won the highest popular votes by a landslide. But the White House decided to disregard the votes and silence our voice in this election year. They formally refused to invite our movement's representative to the event.
Despite the fraudulent treatment, we seek to inform the public of the devastating effects of so called "criminal alien deportation" which allows no appeal in the court. Many of the deportees, whom we began to call "exiles", were living respectable lives after their incarceration, having their own business, going to school, starting their own family.
And one day, I.C.E. (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) would come pick them up, detain them in some cases up to 2-3 years without any charge or trial, and send them back to their supposed homeland, like Cambodia, leaving wives, husbands, fathers, mothers, and their young children in utter financial and psychological devastation. Often these K.E.A.s (Khmer Exiled Americans) had never seen Cambodia until they were escorted off the airplane by the agents at the Phnom Penh International Airport.
Please ask the White House why they try to silence this issue in manners that do not honor democracy.

US President Barack Obama arrives in Malaysia for historic visit
United States President Barack Obama arrived in Malaysia as part of his four-nation tour of Asia - a first by a sitting US president in 48 years since President Lyndon B. Johnson's trip back in 1966. The Air Force One carrying Obama landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base on Saturday on April 26 at about 4.50pm after a six-hour flight from South Korea, as he embarked on what has been described as a historic visit to Malaysia. On hand to greet him "Selamat Datang" ("Welcome" in Malay) were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Malaysian Ambassador to the US, Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin and Special Envoy to the US Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.- published: 26 Apr 2014

US President Barack Obama lauds Manmohan Singh's 'boldness'
After a farewell phone call to Manmohan Singh shortly after he demitted office, US President Barack Obama also wrote to the former Prime Minister appreciating his role in strengthening the Indo—US strategic relationship. On May 17, Obama made a farewell phone call to Singh barely hours after the latter demitted office and described him as one of the few public leaders whom he "admired" and that he would "miss" working with him on a "day—to—day basis". In his subsequent letter, Obama appreciated Manmohan Singh "for his efforts that lifted millions out of poverty and positioned India for its transformation into a global leader". Obama said he wanted to "respond to your thoughtful letter and put in writing my deep appreciation for your remarkable two terms in office". "I have tremendous gratitude for the critical role you have played in defining and expanding the strategic partnership between India and the United States," said Obama according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office here. He said Manmohan Singh's "leadership helped strengthen a strategic relationship that will have a long—lasting impact on our citizens and is already making the world a safer, more prosperous place. With boldness and vision, during your 10 years in office, you challenged our two nations to deepen our defence ties, engage in civil nuclear commerce, expand trade, and collaborate on clean energy technology while working through our differences.
