KASOL : A MINI ISRAEL IN HIMACHAL PRADESH ( INDIA)
KASOL A MINI ISRAEL IN HIMACHAL PRADESH ( INDIA) Edited by - Ragadeep Kancharla Script & Voice- Anju Paudel Kasol is a small village in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The village is resting on the lap of Outer Himalyan range or Shivalik. The village is so small that one can walk two ends in half an hour. There are good moterable roads from Kullu to Manikran via Malana and Kasol. You can enjoy driving and see the beautiful apples and pines trees on the both sides of road. Kasol is situated in Parvati valley, on the banks of Parvati River, on the way between Bhuntar and Manikran. Manikaran is a Sikh and Hindu pilgrimage centre. Kasol is located 42 km east of Kullu at the height of 1640 meters. Kasol is partitioned into Old Kasol and New Kasol on the either side of the bridge. The village has thick deodar (pine) forest as the crown, river Parvati wetting its feet, mountains made of black hard-rock. Making a perfect backdrop for the village. It is assumed that parvati valley is a tapobhumi of lord Shiva. The locals are a smily faces Himachali's and few are foreigners inspired to migrate there, deeply in love with the nature's beauty of kasol. Once the Land of apples and pines has turned into land of hash .Kasol is a hub to backpackers especially Israelis. The village is a mini Israel, the mostly hotels, restaurants and the local business banners and boards are in Hebrew. Almost all localite can speak the Hebrew language. Israelis roaming around, German bakeries, Cafes serving of best Israeli food is all that one could see. It is all on 2km long road, making you feel that you are out of India. Once a remote village is now obsolete place, crowded by large numbers of foreigners. One can see Internet Cafes, restaurants offering a multi cuisine menu with Israeli, Italian, Thai, Chinese, Indian and Tibetan food and open air Cafes selling junk food. Everything in Kasol is a must check, from Israeli cafe's to the beautiful scenery out. The Mountains are half snow covered in most of seasons and in December and January its killing chill out there in Kasol. The place is also known for production of a local plant used as a drug, namely Hashish. The plant Cannabis (hash) is growing everywhere. The place is pretty much drug capital of India. Trekking and partying are the major activities one can witness in Kasol. The most likely tourists are Israelis attracted to trekking and local drug Hash. One can see the foreign tourists openly smoking the hash. You can start your evening with bonfire party, enjoy the barbeque and music with natural surroundings fast flowing river in the backdrop, thanks to the melting glacier of the Himalaya's during May to august month of the year, you can find yourself in one of the best location to do the barbeque. Don't worry if you are not carrying the barbeque grill incase, you can arrange it locally. Locals are very friendly and meanwhile helpful. Kasol has beauty and nature's wonder in affluence in vary many forms, the gurgling river Parvati can be heard throughout the village and the beautiful Himachali weather in the forest surrounding the village makes it quite a tourist attraction. Kasol has gained popularity for it serves the base camp for many wonderful treks like1. Pin Parvati Pass, 2. Kheer ganga, 3. Sar Pass and 4.Yanker Pass. The place is also known for trout fishing. The cuisine and dining is not much expensive. You can enjoy your holidays in a budget. YOU CAN REACH KASOL Via Air: Bhuntar Airport near Kullu is the nearest about 31 km away. The Kangra Valley Railway lies in the sub-Himalayan region and covers a distance of 164 km (101.9 mi) from Pathankot, Punjab to Jogindernagar in Himachal Pradesh, India. The Kangra valley railway comes under the Firozpur division of Northern Railway. It is one of two mountain railways that run in Himachal Pradesh, the other being Kalka-Shimla Railway, which has been designated as world heritage site by UNESCO. Both of these currently run at a narrow gauge of 2 feet 6 inches, although they do not connect to each other.
