14 years after the war ended loyalties in Bosnia continue to remain divided. Serbs Croats and Muslims might not be fighting in the streets but the divisions can be seen in football grounds and sport bars around the country. Bosnian Serbs and Croats prefer to support the national teams of Serbia and Croatia rather than their home grown side. The divisions exploded into violence during the 1992-1995 war when Serbian and Croatian forces crossed the borders of Bosnia to support their national groups against the Bosnian Muslims. The Serbs and Croats of Bosnia wanted to separate from their country and merge their territories with Serbia and Croatia respectively. The divisions continued after the peace deal was signed in 1995 when Bosnia remained as one country but kept its nationalist borders within the state. It s meant that mainly Bosnian Muslims support their national team while Bosnian Croats and Serbs turn their backs on Miroslav Blazevic and his team. The Bosnian national football team does consist of players from a Muslim Serb and Croat background. Ibrahim Delic a Bosnian Muslim and Bosnian supporter says It is a shame and pity that this damn war destroyed us. The biggest shame is that we all used to be like one but one nation left for one side another nation left for another side and we Bosnian Muslims stayed on this side. But in Pale a Serb war-time stronghold it s a different story. Igor Hrsum a Bosnian Serb says I m supporting Serbia. I don t have a particular reason but I do feel this way. I feel this and I support them with all my heart. I don t do it to despise anyone but it is just in my heart. I support them and that is it. And the bars were packed with people supporting Serbia when the side played against France even though their national team Bosnia was playing same night in Zenica less then 50 kilometres away. Sead Numanovic the chief editor of largest Bosnian daily Avaz says You have a political situation that reflects that people s national feelings are not within people s soul but it is in the hands of politicians. Politicians are instigating nationalistic fury to protect their positions and cover up their crimes and corruption. When you take all this into consideration you end up with huge problem that does not go away that is not unique for Bosnia but in Bosnia it can become a dangerous mine field ready to explode any day. In the divided Bosnian town of Mostar where Croats and Muslims should be living side by side in peace rioting among football fans is a common weekend event. When Croatia played against England and at the same time Bosnia played against Turkey fans clashed with police trying to disperse Croat and Muslim supporters. 6 policemen were injured by Croatian supporters throwing rocks and bottles towards the police barricade. Asim Mujkic a Sociologist says People s nationalistic political oligarchies rule with spread of hatred and distance towards two other nations in this country. Christopher Hitchens on Military Intervention in Haiti and the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1994)
The Bosnian War, sometimes referred to as the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnian Civil War, was an international armed conflict that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1 March 1992 and 14 December 1995. The war involved several factions. The main belligerents were the forces of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and those of the self-proclaimed Bosnian Serb and Bosnian Croat entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and Herzeg-Bosnia, who were led and supplied by Serbia and Croatia respectively. The war came about as a result of the breakup of Yugoslavia. Following the Slovenian and Croatian secessions from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991, the multi-ethnic Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was inhabited by Muslim Bosniaks (44 percent), Orthodox Serbs (31 percent) and Catholic Croats (17 percent), passed a referendum for independence on 29 February 1992. This was rejected by the political representatives of the Bosnian Serbs, who had boycotted the referendum and established their own republic. Following the declaration of independence, the Bosnian Serbs, supported by the Serbian government of Slobodan Milošević and the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), mobilized their forces inside the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to secure Serbian territory, then war soon broke out across the country, accompanied by the ethnic cleansing of the Muslim Bosniak population, especially in eastern Bosnia. It was principally a territorial conflict, initially between the Serb forces mostly organized in the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) on the one side, and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH) which was largely composed of Bosniaks, and the Croat forces in the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) on the other side. The Croats also aimed at securing parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina as Croatian. The Serb and Croat political leadership agreed on a partition of Bosnia with the Karađorđevo and Graz agreements, resulting in the Croat forces turning against the ARBiH and the Croat-Bosniak war. The war was characterized by bitter fighting, indiscriminate shelling of cities and towns, ethnic cleansing and systematic mass rape, mostly led by Serb and, to a lesser extent, Croat forces. Events such as the Siege of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica massacre would become iconic of the conflict. The Serbs, although initially superior due to the vast amount of weapons and resources provided by the JNA, eventually lost momentum as the Bosniaks and Croats allied themselves against the Republika Srpska in 1994 with the creation of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina following the Washington agreement. After the Srebrenica and Markale massacres, NATO intervened in 1995 with Operation Deliberate Force targeting the positions of the Army of the Republika Srpska, which proved key in ending the war. The war was brought to an end after the signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Paris on 14 December 1995. Peace negotiations were held in Dayton, Ohio, and were finalized on 21 December 1995. The accords are now known as the Dayton Agreement. A 1995 report by the Central Intelligence Agency found that Bosnian Serb forces were responsible for 90% of the war crimes committed during the conflict. As of early 2008, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia had convicted 45 Serbs, 12 Croats and 4 Bosniaks of war crimes in connection with the war in Bosnia. The most recent figures suggest that around 100,000 people were killed during the war. In addition, an estimated total of 20,000 to 50,000 women were raped, and over 2.2 million people were displaced, making it the most devastating conflict in Europe since the end of World War II. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosnian_War- published: 05 Jun 2013

Diversidad is the Spanish word for diversity. In case of the same-titled musical project initiated by the European Music Office (EMO) and supported by the European Commission, it’s not an empty phrase, but a way of living, thinking and – even more importantly – creating. To celebrate the diversity of urban music, styles and culture throughout Europe is the main aim of this ambitious artistic melting pot. In the spirit of cultural exchange, 14 different artists have come together in a recording studio in Brussels to combine their different vocal stylings over an uplifiting musical background provided by premier league beatmaker Spike Miller from France.
Spike Miller’s instrumental for Diversidad’s single, The eXperience, is a state-of-the-art production which can compete against any hit single on urban radio right now. The mixture of innovative drum programming, atmospheric synth chords and attacking strings is as multifaceted as the national and cultural backgrounds of the artists that are rapping and singing on top of it. In four minutes, the listener is carried from the smooth accentuation of Spanish or Swedish over the familiar sounds of English and French to the more harsh linguistics of German, Bosnian and Croatian. »Different rivers flow together«, sings Freetown-born, but Cologne-based artist Mariama in a catchy hook that resembles current R&B; club smashers while still sounding characteristic and recognizable.
The song is the perfect summer anthem for open-minded hip-hop lovers all over Europe. Even if you don’t understand every single word or line, you are immediately captured by the transnational vibe on this superb musical piece which stands out clearly from the boring pabulum that mainstream media and music television is trying to feed the masses. The vision of the project »Diversidad« is to actively overcome language barriers and cultural stereotypes and to be a stepping stone on a way to an exchange and unification of different urban music scenes in Europe. But despite all ideological superstructure, the main focus on this project is musical quality. Being the executive producers of the project, German hip-hop artist Curse and French beatmaker Spike Miller supervised the recording and made sure every single element fits in its predetermined place.
The eXperience is only the appetizer for a whole album that was recorded during two prolific weeks in the spring of 2010 that the artists spent in a recording studio in Brussels, Belgium. 20 different artists from 12 different countries speaking 8 different languages came together to create a masterpiece that is destined to be an integral part in the Diversidad movement. The music on the album sounds as diverse as the artists involved in its creation: There's straight-forward hip-hop songs, uptempo club tracks, a reggae tune, an urban pop ballad, a song with a kind of freestyle character and lots of different musical influences to be heard. All in all, the album showcases that urban music is a melting pot of musical styles and not a prefabricated box with rigid boundaries.
The Diversidad program will also include a festival tour, a graphic art exhibition, a movie and a digital community. All of these different channels will be opened from 2010 to 2012, but right now you just need to open your ears and hearts for the first audible life sign of the »Diversidad, The eXperience«.
Artists performing on the single:
Featuring : Curse (Germany), Marcus Price (Sweden), Orelsan (France), Rival (Belgium), Luche from Co' Sang (Italy), Frenkie (Bosnia), GMBisGeryMendes (Netherlands), Valete (Portugal), Pitcho (Belgium), Nach (Spain), Mariama (Germany), MC Melodee from La Melodia (Netherlands), Remi and Shot from Elemental (Croatia),
Scratch by Cut Killer (France) / Produced by Spike Miller (France)

Prayercast | Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina is one country divided into two separate governmental entities and populated by three ethnic groups with strong cultural identities- Bosniaks (Bosnian Muslims), Croats and Serbs. This triangular shaped country on the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe is bordered by Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro. In determining whether to separate from Yugoslavia in 1991, Bosnia and Herzegovina became involved in a devastating three-year civil war. Fighting broke out along ethnic lines where few cultural differences had previously existed. The war left over 200,000 people dead, half the population displaced, and much of the country’s infrastructure and economy destroyed. The 1995 Dayton Peace Accord ended the war and established a governmental plan to include all three ethnic factions.
The new plan called for dividing the country into two entities - the Bosnian-Croat Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnian Serb Republic or Republika Srpska. Each entity has its own governing powers with a central Bosnian government having three presidents – one from each ethnic group – who rotate every eight months. International peacekeepers from NATO and more recently the European Union have helped stabilize the country, but with unemployment as high as 50-70% in some areas, addressing economic issues is a priority. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s desire to be a part of the European Union is a big motivation to improve the economy, but greater steps toward resolving the ethnic divisions will be needed before acceptance.
Religion also divides the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Traditionally, Bosniaks are Muslim, Serbs are Eastern Orthodox, and Croats are Roman Catholic. Religion is an important part of each group’s national identity and culture. Constituting four percent of the population of four million, with only 800-1,000 evangelicals, Protestants are often viewed suspiciously. Evangelicals have had some success in reaching across ethnic lines, but one obstacle to evangelism has been the lack of Christian literature in the Bosnian language, including a translated Old Testament. The availability of affordable Bosnian Bibles and Christian literature would provide all denominations with additional resources to bring the Christian message of hope to the hurting people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
