Sex, Stags & Prague - Stacey Dooley Investigates (BBC Documentary)
Stacey Dooley investigates a stag's last night of freedom in Prague, a no-holds-barred city that caters for a man's every whim. She meets some of the thousands of girls who are paid to entertain Prague's male visitors and reveals how they really feel about their work. She discovers how the city is littered with brothels thinly disguised as massage parlours and gentleman's clubs, and reveals how the tough competition is putting pressure on the girls to go further and further. Stacey joins the police on patrol to see the daily struggles they face to protect the tourists and mop up the trouble they cause. She also uncovers how the large groups of drunken men become easy prey to Prague's criminals, which the police are struggling to stop. Through unprecedented access, Stacey uncovers the darker side of Prague.- published: 09 Oct 2013

BBC. Great Continental Railway Journeys. Prague to Munich
BBC. Great Continental Railway Journeys. Prague to Munich
Prague to Munich With his 1913 guidebook in hand and clad in a luminous pink jacket, improbable Bohemian Michael Portillo explores the stunning art nouveau architecture of the Czech capital. In a cafe popular with artists of the time he discovers the dance craze of the day - the tango - and gamely gives it a go. In the spa of kings, Marienbad, now known as Marianske Lazne, Michael samples the sulphurous waters and wallows in peat and mud. At the Skoda factory in Pilsen he investigates how the machine products of peacetime gave way to the manufacture of armaments for war and test drives a state of the art passenger train locomotive made there today. Crossing the border from Bohemia to Bavaria, Michael encounters a fire breathing dragon in Furth-im-Wald and in Nuremberg he rides German railway history - made in Britain. Arriving in Munich, he discovers an early 20th century pioneer who laid the foundations for the city's pre-eminence in science and technology today.- published: 12 Dec 2013

Eating in Prague
In the latest episode of Eating In, Tiffany and Brendan head to the beautiful city of Prague, in the Czech Republic. Not only is Prague a beautiful city, but the food experience in the city is amazing. On Eating in Prague, Brendan and Tiffany most stick to local dishes. They have Breakfast at Panderia in downtown Prague. They grab yogurt, bread and a chicken wrap. For lunch, they visit a place called Harmonia in the town of Kutna Hora. Brendan has the Chicken goolash, and Tiffany has an onion soup. And they grab some dinner at a place called Epopey situated next to Fusion Hostel. Prague - The Sad City (1968)
Prague - The Sad City (1968)
Prague, Czechoslovakia. Footage shot in the 'Prague Spring of freedom', shortly before the Russian invasion is seen with a sombre but 'safe' commentary. At Prague Airport we see a plane coming to a halt on the tarmac and people disembarking. Street scenes in Prague show people milling about, trams going by, people sitting at a pavement cafe, a man sells newspapers, another man looks in a food shop window, people eat ice-cream and sausages in the street. C/Us of statues of King Wenceslas and a saint holding a crucifix. People walk along Charles Bridge; sentries in dark glasses are seen at the castle gates. Various shots of the cathedral; people going inside. Several shots of the part of the city beside the river, a man and boy throw stones in the water. Several shots of Prague castle and cathedral; the 14th century Karlstein Castle; Konopiste Castle (former home of Archduke Franz Ferdinand), statues in the grounds and peacocks, some with tails spread. North of the city we see the 'Bohemian Paradise' - forests and rocky countryside; three women walk about and look at a large lake. More shots of the city. At an open-air cafe we see Olinka Berova ("a bright young film star" according to commentator) sipping wine; this beautiful blonde beckons us to go with her and wanders around some lovely gardens in the city, rows across a lake before the Valdstein (?sp) Palace, walks around the city, over the Charles Bridge and beside the river. We see an old, ornate clock with moving figures on the side of a building; Olinka walks through the cloisters of a former monastery, now a museum, and across the courtyard, then wanders around looking at Prague Castle and the cathedral. She goes inside the cathedral and we see several stained-glass windows, then comes out through the castle gates and walks off down a long flight of steps leading back to the main city, turns and waves at us and skips off. Prague and the Czech Republic
Newly energized Prague, slinky with sumptuous Art Nouveau facades, is perpetually playing Mozart and Vivaldi. Eastern Europe's top destination has Europe's best beer, biggest castle, liveliest pedestrian bridge, and most evocative Jewish Quarter. From Prague, we side-trip to Kutna Hora, once a silver-mining boomtown, to descend into its medieval mine and ponder its eerie chapel, decorated centuries ago with 40,000 bones.- published: 14 May 2014

Did Hitler Store his Secret Weapons in Prague
Did Hitler Store his Secret Weapons in Prague
Prague is a city cloaked in mystery, with an underground to match. Medieval castles line the streets & dark dungeons lie deep below them. From quarries where Hitler may have stored his secret weapons to mines that doubled as Communist slave camps, Prague has surprising stories to tell. The German occupation of Czechoslovakia (1938--1945) began with the Nazi annexation of Czechoslovakia's northern and western border regions, known collectively as the Sudetenland, under terms outlined by the Munich Agreement. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's pretext for this effort was the alleged privations suffered by the ethnic German population living in those regions. New and extensive Czechoslovak border fortifications were also located in the same area. Following the Anschluss of Nazi Germany and Austria, in March 1938, the conquest of Czechoslovakia became Hitler's next ambition. The incorporation of the Sudetenland into Nazi Germany left the rest of Czechoslovakia weak and it became powerless to resist subsequent occupation. On 16 March 1939, the German Wehrmacht moved into the remainder of Czechoslovakia and, from Prague Castle, Hitler proclaimed Bohemia and Moravia the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The occupation ended with the surrender of Germany following World War II. Sudeten German pro-Nazi leader Konrad Henlein offered the Sudeten German Party (SdP) as the agent for Hitler's campaign. Henlein met with Hitler in Berlin on 28 March 1938, where he was instructed to raise demands unacceptable to the Czechoslovak government led by president Edvard Beneš. On 24 April, the SdP issued the Karlsbader Programm, demanding autonomy for the Sudetenland and the freedom to profess Nazi ideology. If Henlein's demands were granted, the Sudetenland would then be able to align itself with Nazi Germany. "I am asking neither that Germany be allowed to oppress three and a half million Frenchmen, nor am I asking that three and a half million Englishmen be placed at our mercy. Rather I am simply demanding that the oppression of three and a half million Germans in Czechoslovakia cease and that the inalienable right to self-determination take its place." - Adolf Hitler's speech at the NSDAP Congress 1938- published: 11 Feb 2014
