Tripura achieves 94.65 percent literacy rate
Rigorous efforts of the Tripura government, led to much improvement in the literacy rate of the state. The state has now achieved 94.65 per cent literacy rate. Speaking at a function on the occasion of International Literacy Day, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said that the state had secured 12th position with 73.19 % in the 2001 census and elevated to the fourth position with 87.22 percent literacy rate in the 2011 census. He added that, census is conducted every ten years, but to determine if Tripura's literacy rate improved, a government survey was conducted by the eight district magistrates in August 2012. According to the survey, out of state's 37 lakh population, only 1.31 lakh, including those aged 50 and above, were illiterate. The survey shows that the state's literacy has now risen to 94.65 percent.- published: 09 Sep 2013
