Creative cameras: photography in a new light at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2014
Creative cameras: photography in a new light exhibit at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2014. Jonathan Leach, Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University. Heriot-Watt University and University of Glasgow research team. How do you take images so fast that you can see light travelling through air? How do you take pictures without using a camera? And how do you use the latest technology to look around corners and see objects hidden from view? These are the questions that researchers from Heriot-Watt University and the University of Glasgow - the Creative Cameras team - are looking into. Their research is focused on developing new strategies for imaging, which allow us to see the world in a new perspective. The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2014 was held 1-6 July 2014 at the Royal Society in London. Find out more: http://sse.royalsociety.org/2014/- published: 29 Apr 2014

PRaVDA - seeing and treating cancer with protons at Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2014
PRaVDA - seeing and treating cancer with protons exhibit at Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2014. Professor Nigel Allinson, University of Lincoln. Dr Tony Price, University of Birmingham. Dr Michela Esposito, University of Lincoln. Dr Jon Taylor, University of Liverpool. The World Health Organisation estimates there are 14 million new cancer cases each year. It is the second biggest killer in the developed world - about 1 in 4 of all deaths. Of these cases, about half will receive radiotherapy as part of their treatment. All high-energy radiation damages a cell's DNA and most radiotherapy uses external beams of X-rays. Protons, positively charged particles, offer a new form of radiotherapy. PRaVDA is a unique instrument that will let clinicians see how the protons interact with a tumour in 3D - this is the Holy Grail of Radiotherapy. The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2014 was held 1-6 July 2014 at the Royal Society in London. Find out more: http://sse.royalsociety.org/2014/- published: 29 Apr 2014
