Yousuf Raza Gilani was disqualified as prime minister last year after refusing a Supreme Court order to reopen an old corruption case against the president.

He was barred from holding office for seven years.

But that hasn\'t stopped him from campaigning for his Pakistan People\'s Party (PPP) reelection.

While the PPP wants to use the remaining two weeks of campaigning to highlight its record over the past five years, it is the recent return and subsequent arrest of the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf that has attracted the most attention.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Gilani says he is pleased that Musharraf has been arrested.

KARACHI: Two terrorists have been killed while three personnel from the Airport Security Force (ASF) and one each from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have been killed following an armed attack at the Karachi airport.

According to initial reports, four armed attackers hurled grenades and opened fire as they entered the tarmac from fokker gate. This led to an exchange of fire between ASF personnel and the gunmen.

Gunshots and blasts were being heard with intervals outside the airport and flight operations have been suspended.

Two planes were partially damaged in the terrorist attack. TV footage showed one of the planes had caught fire.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif contacted DG Rangers Rizwan Akhtar and directed him to ensure safety of all the passengers at the airport.

Pakistan Army personnel have also arrived to assist ASF and other Law Enforcement Agencies.

According to DG ISPR Asim Bajwa, Pakistan Army troops have started reaching the airport and taking positions. In a series of tweets the DG ISPR added that proper coordination has being ensured for optimum effect and the DG Rangers was present at the airport leading the operation. He added that the operation was being supervised by Corps Commander.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has ordered an inquiry into the attack.

Emergency has been declared at Jinnah, Civil and Abbasi Shaheed Hospitals.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah arrived at the airport after the reports of attack.

Passengers are advised to adjust travel plans as flight from Karachi are being diverted.

Talking to media at the airport, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, who is also Sindh Home Minister, arrived on the directives of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

He declined to comment on the sensitive information, saying exchange of fire was continuing and it was premature to comment on it.

However, he said according to his information no aircraft was damaged in the attack.

Flights to Karachi have been diverted to Nawabshah.

Iraq Crisis: Militants Attack Tikrit After Taking Mosul - Iraq Islamists Force 500,000 To Flee Mosul More than 150,000 people have been forced to flee Iraq's second city of Mosul after Islamist militants effectively took control of it. Troops were among those fleeing as hundreds of jihadists from the ISIS group overran it and much of the surrounding province of Nineveh. Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki responded by asking parliament to declare a state of emergency to grant him greater powers. The US said the development showed ISIS is a threat to the entire region. US State department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the situation in Mosul was "extremely serious" and that the US supported "a strong, co-ordinated response to push back against this aggression". A spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was "gravely concerned" at the situation. The deal calls for an immediate truce and the formation of a transitional government ahead of the drafting of a new constitution and new elections. The conflict in the world's newest state has left thousands dead and more than one million homeless. US Secretary of State John Kerry said the deal "could mark a breakthrough for the future of South Sudan". "The hard journey on a long road begins now and the work must continue," added Mr Kerry, who had played an instrumental role in bringing together the two sides in the conflict. "I saw with my own eyes last week the stakes and the struggles in a new nation we helped courageous people create. He encouraged the Iraqi government and the Kurdish regional government to cooperate in restoring security to region. South Korea Ferry Crew Go on Trial
South Korea Ferry Crew Go on Trial

Fifteen crew members go on trial over the deaths of at least 292 people on the South Korean Sewol passenger ferry in April. Full Story: The crew and captain of a South Korean ferry that sank in April are led into court. They're on trial for charges, ranging from negligence to homicide after nearly 300 people -- mostly children -- died. Angry and grieving relatives of the dead packed the courtroom, as they listened to proceedings. One relative held up a sign that read: "You are not human. You are beneath animals." A scuffle later broke out between the relatives and court security guards who tried to take the sign away. Most of the victims, who were from the same school on a field trip stayed in their cabins as instructed. In contrast surviving crew members, including the captain captured here on video, abandoned the Sewol, leaving hundreds of passengers trapped inside. The South Korean President said a nationwide manhunt is also under way for the businessman, who is believed to own the company that ran the sunken ferry. [Park Geun-Hye, South Korean President]: "Prosecutors and police have been making efforts to capture Yoo Byung-Un, but it does not make any sense that they haven't caught him yet. They need to recheck arresting methods and explore every possible means to bring Yoo to justice." The captain and three senior crew members, who are charged with homicide face a maximum sentence of death. The remaining crew members face lesser charges. These 15 men have been in detention since their indictments. But as the court is in Gwangju, the closest city to scene of the disaster where emotions are still running high, many say these men appear to have already been tried and convicted by an angry public even before the trial began.
