The climate of Spain varies across the country. Three main climatic zones can be distinguished, according to geographical situation and orographic conditions:

Apart from the three main climate zones, other sub-zones can be found, such as the alpine climate in the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada, and a typical subtropical climate in the Canary Islands.

The coastal Mediterranean region is marked by Leveche winds: hot, dry, easterly or southeasterly air currents that originate over North Africa. Episodes of these winds, which sometimes carry fine Saharan dust, are more common in spring and are associated with a sudden, usually short-lived, increase in temperature. A cooler easterly wind, the Levante, funnels between the Sistema Penibetico and the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. These easterly winds are the ones which most influence the Mediterranean climate, for they are mild in temperature and humid.^{[citation needed]}

The inland areas of the Iberian Peninsula, in the Central Plateau, have a continental climate. The summers are very hot, regularly exceeding 35 º C. By contrast, there are very low temperatures in winter, with temperatures under -15ºC not uncommon, and under -20ºC regularly occurring. These are often accompanied by heavy snowfall.^{[citation needed]} Although it rarely rains during summer, there is often heavy rainfall in spring and autumn . The annual rainfall exceeds 500mm.^{[citation needed]}

Spain (ⁱ/ˈspeɪn/ SPAYN; Spanish: España, pronounced: [esˈpaɲa] ( listen)), officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a sovereign state and a member of the European Union located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar; to the north and north east by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the northwest and west by the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal.

Spanish territory also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast, and two autonomous cities in North Africa, Ceuta and Melilla, that border Morocco. Furthermore, the town of Llívia is a Spanish exclave situated inside French territory. With an area of 504,030 square kilometres (194,610 sq mi), it is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union after France, and the fourth largest country in Europe after Russia, Ukraine and France.

Juan Verde (born July 7, 1971) is currently serving as International Co-Chair for the reelection campaign of President Barack Obama. In addition to developing and directing a strategy designed to mobilize millions of American citizens residing outside of the United States, Mr. Verde serves as an advisor to President Obama on international trade, Hispanic vote and Sustainability related issues.

Juan Verde Suárez was born in Telde, Gran Canaria (Canary Island, Spain) in July 07, 1971. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from Boston University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. He has completed post-graduate business studies at Georgetown University and Tufts University. Verde is a former Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute fellow.

Verde’s career began as a Business and Legislative Aide in the Boston Mayor’s Office and the Boston City Council which later lead to a position as a political and economic advisor for the Boston Mayor Ray Flynn. He then worked as an International Trade Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Commerce during the Clinton Administration. He later served as a Director for Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula for the Corporate Executive Board (CEB). He has worked also as a consultant to business and political leaders in the United States Europe and Latin America.

Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr. (born March 31, 1948) served as the 45th Vice President of the United States (1993–2001), under President Bill Clinton. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for President and won the popular vote in the 2000 U.S. presidential election.

Gore is currently an author and environmental activist. He has founded a number of non-profit organizations, including the Alliance for Climate Protection, and has received a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in climate change activism.

Gore was previously an elected official for 24 years, representing Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives (1977–85), and later in the U.S. Senate (1985–93), and finally becoming Vice President in 1993. In the 2000 presidential election, Gore won the popular vote by a margin of more than 500,000 votes. However, he ultimately lost the Electoral College to Republican George W. Bush when the U.S. Supreme Court settled the legal controversy over the Florida vote recount by ruling 5-4 in favor of Bush. It was the only time in history that the Supreme Court has determined the outcome of a presidential election.
