Cappadocia - Turkey Travel Guide, Tours, Vacations HD World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Cappadocia is a historical region in Central Anatolia, largely in Nevşehir Province, in Turkey. In the time of Herodotus, the Cappadocians were reported as occupying the whole region from Mount Taurus to the vicinity of the Euxine (Black Sea). Cappadocia, in this sense, was bounded in the south by the chain of the Taurus Mountains that separate it from Cilicia, to the east by the upper Euphrates and the Armenian Highland, to the north by Pontus, and to the west by Lycaonia and eastern Galatia. The name was traditionally used in Christian sources throughout history and is still widely used as an international tourism concept to define a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage. Etymology Cappadocia ================== The earliest record of the name of Cappadocia dates from the late 6th century BC, when it appears in the trilingual inscriptions of two early Achaemenid kings, Darius I and Xerxes, as one of the countries (Old Persian dahyu-) of the Persian Empire. In these lists of countries, the Old Persian name is Katpatuka, which is of uncertain origin. Herodotus tells us that the name of the Cappadocians was applied to them by the Persians, while they were termed by the Greeks as "Syrians" or "White Syrians" Leucosyri. One of the Cappadocian tribes he mentions is the Moschoi, associated by Flavius Josephus with the biblical figure Meshech, son of Japheth: "and the Mosocheni were founded by Mosoch; now they are Cappadocians". AotJ I:6. Also see Ketubot 13:11 in the Mishna. Cappadocia is also mentioned in the biblical account given in the book of Acts 2:9. The Cappadocians were named as one group hearing the Gospel account from Galileans in their own language on the day of Pentecost shortly after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acts 2:5 seems to suggest that the Cappadocians in this account were "God-fearing Jews". See Acts of the Apostles. Under the later kings of the Persian Empire, the Cappadocians were divided into two satrapies, or governments, with one comprising the central and inland portion, to which the name of Cappadocia continued to be applied by Greek geographers, while the other was called Pontus. This division had already come about before the time of Xenophon. As after the fall of the Persian government the two provinces continued to be separate, the distinction was perpetuated, and the name Cappadocia came to be restricted to the inland province (sometimes called Great Cappadocia), which alone will be the focus of this article. The kingdom of Cappadocia was still in existence in the time of Strabo as a nominally independent state. Cilicia was the name given to the district in which Caesarea, the capital of the whole country, was situated. The only two cities of Cappadocia considered by Strabo to deserve that appellation were Caesarea (originally known as Mazaca) and Tyana, not far from the foot of the Taurus. History Cappadocia ============== Cappadocia was known as Hatti in the late Bronze Age, and was the homeland of the Hittite power centred at Hattusa. After the fall of the Hittite Empire, with the decline of the Syro-Cappadocians (Mushki) after their defeat by the Lydian king Croesus in the 6th century, Cappadocia was ruled by a sort of feudal aristocracy, dwelling in strong castles and keeping the peasants in a servile condition, which later made them apt for foreign slavery. It was included in the third Persian satrapy in the division established by Darius, but continued to be governed by rulers of its own, none apparently supreme over the whole country and all more or less tributaries of the Great King. ========================= Cappadocia Travel Guide, Cappadocia Tours, Cappadocia Tourism, Cappadocia Vacations, Cappadocia History, Cappadocia Hotels, Cappadocia HD, Turkey Travel Guide, Turkey Tours, Turkey Tourism , Turkey Vacations, Turkey History, Turkey Hotels, Turkey HD- published: 11 Feb 2014

The Most Beautiful Places in Sakarya (TURKEY)
Information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sakarya_Province History Sakarya dates back to 378 BC. Ancient settlers included Phrygians, Bithynians, Cimmerians, Lydians and Persians, but Sakarya got its identity from the Romans and Byzantine rulers. One of the most important remains of historical significance is the Justinianus Bridge (Turkish: Beş Köprü) built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian in 533 CE. Sakarya Province (Turkish: Sakarya ili) is a province in Turkey, located on the coast of Black Sea. The Sakarya River creates a webbing of estuaries in the province. Sakarya is located in the Marmara Region. Its adjacent provinces are Kocaeli to the west, Bilecik to the south, Bolu to the southeast, and Düzce to the east. The capital of Sakarya is Adapazarı. The climate is oceanic due to its close proximity to the Black Sea. Sakarya is situated on the Ankara-Istanbul Highway. It is connected through both road and rail. Sakarya is serviced by Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen International Airport airport. The current mayor of Sakarya is Zeki Tocoglu #Turkey #Travel #holiday #tourism- published: 15 Jan 2014

Turkey Reaches Out to Syria
Turkey Reaches Out to Syria
Due to the internal conflict in Syria, hundreds of thousands of Syrians have had to maintain their lives in neighbouring countries, especially in Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq. Within the framework of "open door policy", Republic of Turkey has given "temporary protection status" to Syrians. 22 ACCOMODATION CENTRES IN 10 PROVINCES Turkey hosts more than 700.000 Syrian Guests within its borders. 220.000 of these Syrian citizens have been sheltered in 22 temporary protection centres, established in 10 provinces. Also nearly 500,000 of them reside out of the protection centres. Up to now, over 2.5 Billion US Dollars have been spent by Turkish Government in order to meet the needs of Syrians such as nutrition, health, security, shelter, education, hygiene etc. In spite of Turkey's great efforts, international community spent only some 200 million US Dollars for Syrian people in Turkey. Turkey also addresses the humanitarian needs of the Syrian IDPs through the zero-point border operation, in compliance with international law. EFFICIENT AND INTEGRATED SYSTEM UNDER THE COORDINATION OF AFAD AFAD have built utmost efficient and integrated system in temporary protection centres. Within the scope of this system, education, medical service, security service and the other services have been carrying out under the coordination of AFAD and in cooperation with Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Family and Social Policies and other relevant Ministries, Governmental and Non -- Governmental Institutions and Organisations. AFAD also determines the standards of temporary protection centres regarding the building and management works. These practises and experiences are being shared with all the world and serve as a model for countries which host refugees in relatively worse conditions. FOOD As well as the supply of hot meal three times a day, smart cards have been distributed to Syrians that allow shopping in markets in accommodation centres. HEALTH Syrians have an opportunity to be treated by 74 specialists and 300 medical staff in 20 field hospitals in accommodation centres. There are also 100 ambulances that are always on standby. In average, 8 thousand Syrians benefit health services daily. Up till now, more than 2 million Syrians were treated and 33.581 Syrians have undergone medical operations. Nearly 10 thousand Syrian babies were born in those hospitals so far. The critical cases exceeding the capacity of field hospitals are transferred to hospitals within the main city in the province. Syrian citizens living out-of-camps can get free services from any state hospital throughout the country EDUCATION More than 60 thousand Syrian children at kindergarten, primary, secondary and high school level continue their education in 740 classes. Syrian curriculum has been performed in the schools and students also take Turkish lesson. Turkish and Syrian teachers give the lessons. There are also many hobby and vocational courses for youngers and adults, such as carpet weaving, tailoring, hairdressing and craft. Over 30 thousand Syrians have completed various vocational training programmes so far. SECURITY Security of accommodation centres are maintained by sufficient number of gendarmerie and private security force. Protection centres are also protected by security cameras 7/24. OTHER SERVICES Sewerage system, water supply network, prefabricated WC and showers, dishwashing and laundry rooms, playgrounds, TV and internet rooms, market, prayers rooms, were established in accommodation centres. Communication systems, translation, announce system, cleaning, fire services, banking and psycho-social support are the other services for Syrians. MEETING DEMOCRACY We have divided the camps to neighbourhoods ruled by chosen mukhtars, and so giving the opportunity to Syrians residing in the neighbourhoods the right to select their own representatives. MOBILE COORDINATION CENTRES At the current state, the registration of Syrians who live out of the protection centres has started via Mobile Coordination Centres. When biometric registration system has been completed, all necessary information of Syrians will be integrated to system. After that, thanks to Electronic Humanitarian Aid Distribution System (EYDAS) which was developed by AFAD, donors and people in need will be brought together in database. Optimum distribution of humanitarian aid will be performed by matching supply and demand.- published: 13 Mar 2014

Inner Resources: Conversation with Binnur Ercem
Nov. 13, 2013 Binnur Ercem, professor of sociology, describes the Gezi Park movement in Turkey, a movement which reached into all 79 provinces in Turkey. The issue was whether Turkey's national government, in its reach to Islamasize Turkey's secular democracy, could destroy a popular public park. This secular-Islamic fundamentalist division refers to a central question across the entire Islamic world. The session and video presentation also analyzed the ways in which social media's strategies are used by protesters in 2013 to undermine government oppressors. The session is useful in media, sociology, religion, and world history courses.- published: 20 Mar 2014
