The Lost Gold & Treasure of Zimbabwe
The Lost Gold & Treasure of Zimbabwe
The proud era of African warriors ended when the last Matabele King, Lobengula, fled before the troops of Cecil Rhodes. The African ruler disappeared without a trace - and with him all his possessions, gold, diamonds, ivory. The treasures Lobengula hid from the white men are still somewhere in Zimbabwe, between the Limpopo, Shangani and Zambesi Rivers. The year is 1888, when King Lobengula Khumalo of the South African tribal nation of Matabeleland, signs the Rudd Concession with Cecil Rhodes. This concession gives the British South Africans the right to enter Matabeleland and mine for gold. This concession was signed at a time when in the Boer controlled South Africa Republic, after the victory of the First Boer War considered anything but a friend of the British Empire and by Cecil Rhodes controlled Cape Colony, gold had been discovered, in a region called Witwatersrand. The gold mining operation in Matabeleland, however, was Cecil Rhodes' operation -- while he could not profit on the gold found in the Boer Republics, he had his eyes set on the gold in Matabeleland. In exchange for the concessions to mine on Matabele territory, the British paid money, and provided weaponry for the Matabele people, and any who came to dig for gold would be considered as officially living in Lobengula's kingdom, and therefor answering to the laws of the Matabele.- published: 28 Jun 2014

IMG 1296 #RestoreZimDiasporaVote
This video was recorded on 31st May 2014 not 01/06/14 as initially planned. It urges Zimbabweans and non Zimbabweans of all political persuasions to join a twitter campaign calling in the Robert Mugabe's regime to restore Diaspora Vote. The video criticises the passing of the Electoral Amendment Bill on Thursday 29 May 2014 without an input from the public and crucially maintaining the disenfanchisement of 4 million expatriate Zimbabweans. This is despite provisions of the new constitution adopted in March 2013 and a ruling by the African Commission on Human and People's Rights to allow the Zimbabwe Diaspora vote. This is very concerning given that other African countries in the region e.g. South Africa, Mozambique, and beyond such as Kenya, Egypt and Tunisia as well as those in conflict like Syria and Iraq allow their expatriates to vote. Amid reports that loyalists want to make Mugabe a life president a move that would protect the 90-year-old dictator from possible arrest and trial for crimes against humanity should he lose power which he has held for 34 years. Unlike the people at home who he can manipulate with open or subtle violence and threats of possible harm as well as promises of agricultural inputs, expatriates are beyond the Mugabe's reach. It is therefore important that the international community exerts pressure on the tyrannical regime to #RestoreZimDiasporaVote. Bizzarelly, the European Union has pledged US$320 million to the Zanu-PF regime in the hope that it will have made some reforms by November 2014. Other than being just an excuse for wanting to extend a Christmas Box to the tyrant and his wife who remain on targeted sanctions, the EU has no credible reason for warming-up to the Mugabe regime as its legitimacy is questionable after disputed elections in July 2013. For example, contrary to Minister Mnangagwa's recent claims that he wants to maintain constituency based voter registration and proof of residence in order to avert fraud and double voting, independent election monitors for Matabelebeland region working under the umbrella group called Situation Room, reportedly found a polling station manned by one polling agent, a Zanu-PF agent at Bar Compound in Gwanda, Ward 10 on 31 July 2013. The polling station was not listed under a list given to all stakeholders by The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. "We informed other political parties in Gwanda and they have since sent their polling agents there," the spokesperson said. Understandably, Mugabe was "shocked" by his party's "clean sweep" of all 13 seats in Matabeleland South where his party had never won before since 1980. #RestoreZimDiasporaVote.- published: 31 May 2014
