Planet of the Apes 1968 ( FILMING LOCATION VIDEO) Charlton Heston Ending
Planet of the Apes is a 1968 epic science fiction film directed by Franklin J. Schaffner based on the novel La planète des singes by Pierre Boulle. The film stars Charlton Heston and features Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, veteran Shakespearean actor Maurice Evans, James Whitmore, James Daly and Linda Harrison. The script was originally written by Rod Serling but had many rewrites before eventually being made.
The film was ground-breaking for its prosthetic makeup techniques by artist John Chambers, and was well received by critics and audiences, launching a film franchise, including four sequels, as well as a short lived television show, animated series, comic books, various merchandising, and eventually a remake in 2001. Roddy McDowall, in particular, had a long-running relationship with the Apes series, appearing in the original series of five films (one only via stock footage from an earlier film), and also in the television series.
Most of the early scenes of a desert-like terrain were shot in northern Arizona near the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River, Lake Powell, Glen Canyon and other locations near Page, Arizona
Most scenes of the ape village, interiors and exteriors, were filmed on the Fox Ranch in Malibu Creek State Park, northwest of Los Angeles, essentially the backlot of 20th Century Fox.
The concluding beach scenes were filmed on a stretch of California seacoast between Malibu and Oxnard with cliffs that towered 130 feet above the shore. Reaching the beach on foot was virtually impossible, so cast, crew, film equipment, and even horses had to be lowered in by helicopter.
The remains of the Statue of Liberty were shot in a secluded cove on the far eastern end of Westward Beach, between Zuma Beach and Point Dume in Malibu.
As noted in the documentary Behind the Planet of the Apes,] the special effect shot of the half-buried statue was achieved by seamlessly blending a matte painting with existing cliffs.

ANIMATION BREAKDOWN: Nutcracker Fantasy (trailer)
Monday, December 23rd
Tickets: http://bit.ly/193rRBn
CO-PRESENTED BY SCREEN NOVELTIES
In the late-’70s, Sanrio (yes, the Hello Kitty people) unleashed this wonderously unusual stop-motion confection that has sadly laid unsavored for ages. Ex-Rankin/Bass animator Takeo Nakamura was the lucky fellow called upon to employ the signature “Animagic” technique of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to this vaguely festive, awesomely bizarro sugarplum dream — one in which and the signifiers of Christmas fare are all there, except Christmas is never once mentioned. The titular fantasy seems adapted from a German-to-Japanese-to-English translation of the original yarn, rather than the beloved ballet (though its melodies are employed on the Moog-drenched soundtrack to supergroovy effect.) Adding to the beautiful confusion are elaborate musical numbers, plus the voice talents of showbiz stalwarts like Christopher Lee, Roddy McDowall, Dick Van Patten and Jo Anne Worley as the “Nut of Darkness”-wielding, two-headed rat queen. Not screened since its initial release, never on DVD and presented here on film! As a special holiday gift, our pals from Screen Novelties (L.A.’s premiere stop-motion masters of misfit toys) will present a curated mix of their favorite yuletide bits and baubles.
Dir. Takeo Nakamura, 1979, 16mm, 82 min.

Rise of Planet of the Apes-Movie Review by Keith Kelly
http://www.innovativecommunications.tv Hey hey, they’re the monkees-and they’re not fooling around. I’m Keith Kelly. My review of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” coming up right now.
It all started way back in 1968-the first of several Planet of the Apes films where the primates were at the top of the pecking order. The make-up effects were groundbreaking for its day, and even won an Oscar.
Jump ahead past 4 decreasingly effective sequels to Tim Burton’s remake in 2001. All I can say about that one is Mark Wahlberg was no Charleton Heston.
So now we’ve got a brand new entry-a reboot of sorts to the whole saga, set in modern times-not the far future. Only this time we don’t have people wearing prosthetic make-up. All of the various types of chimps, gorillas and orangutans are computer generated.
Caeser is the lead ape in this one, and is played with incredible pathos by Andy Serkis-who acted out the whole part wearing sophisticated motion-control gear. He did similar simian duty with another harry character-King Kong, and is probably most famous as Gollum from Lord of the Rings. His performance is key to the success of this surprisingly good film.
The story is nothing special-good guy scientist James Franco is working on a cure for Alzheimer’s, spurred on by his dad who is affected by the disease. The test subjects are chimps, and little genius baby Caeser is the accidental outcome. The good guys all have hearts of gold, and the bad guys are all heartless bastards. The main theme is yet another variation on “don’t fool around with mother nature.” But the strength of Serkis’s role as Caeser lifts this film above most of the other entries in the series-and many of the movies so far this summer. You really feel for the chimp, as he struggles with his outsider status and growing intelligence-not human, yet more than ape.
All of the actors, including Freida Pinto as the love interest, John Lithgow as the dad, Brian Cox and Tom Felton as a couple of the baddies, put in decent performances-hampered only by the limitations of the script.
If you’re a fan of the series, I think you’re really going to enjoy this one. But even if you’ve never seen any of them-or the TV series, or the cartoons, or the comic books-you’re still good, and you might find yourself shedding a tear or two over Caeser’s treatment, which makes the ape versus human action scenes even more exciting and plausible.
I give “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”, directed with lots of emotion by Rupert Wyatt, a grade of “B+”. I’m Keith Kelly.
