New warning of terror attacks against US bound flights, FOX News
WASHINGTON — The United States intercepted electronic communications this week among senior operatives of Al Qaeda, in which the terrorists discussed attacks against American interests in the Middle East and North Africa, American officials said Friday. The intercepts and a subsequent analysis of them by American intelligence agencies prompted the United States to issue an unusual global travel alert to American citizens on Friday, warning of the potential for terrorist attacks by operatives of Al Qaeda and their associates beginning Sunday through the end of August. Intelligence officials said the threat focused on the Qaeda affiliate in Yemen, which has been tied to plots to blow up American-bound cargo and commercial flights. The bulletin to travelers and expatriates, issued by the State Department, came less than a day after the department announced that it was closing nearly two dozen American diplomatic missions in the Middle East and North Africa, including facilities in Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Britain said Friday that it would close its embassy in Yemen on Monday and Tuesday because of "increased security concerns." It is unusual for the United States to come across discussions among senior Qaeda operatives about operational planning — through informants, intercepted e-mails or eavesdropping on cellphone calls. So when the high-level intercepts were collected and analyzed this week, senior officials at the C.I.A., State Department and White House immediately seized on their significance. Members of Congress have been provided classified briefings on the matter, officials said Friday. "This was a lot more than the usual chatter," said one senior American official who had been briefed on the information but would not provide details. Spokesmen for the State Department and the C.I.A. also declined to comment on the intercepts. The importance of the intercepts was underscored by a speech that the Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahri, posted on jihadist forums on Tuesday. In his address, Mr. Zawahri called for attacks on American interests in response to its military actions in the Muslim world and American drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors statements by jihadists. Security analysts said Friday that in the aftermath of the furor over the Obama administration's handling of the attack last year on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, the State Department is now more likely to publicize threat warnings when deemed credible, both to alert the public and to help deter any imminent attacks. "A decision to close this many embassies and issue a global travel warning for a month suggests the threat is real, advanced and imminent but the intelligence is incomplete on where," said Bruce Riedel, a former C.I.A. case officer and a Brookings Institution scholar. The embassy closings come toward the end of the Ramadan holidays and the approaching first anniversary of the terror attack Sept. 11 on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. "We are particularly concerned about the security situation in the final days of Ramadan and into Eid," the British Foreign Office said in a statement, referring to the Muslim holy month that ends Wednesday evening. Obama administration officials publicly declined to discuss what specific information had prompted the increased alarm and alerts, citing a desire to protect classified sources and methods. But intercepting electronic communications is one of the National Security Agency's main jobs, as the documents leaked by Edward J. Snowden, a former N.S.A. contractor, have only underscored. At the request of intelligence officials, The New York Times withheld some details about the intercepted communications. Some analysts and Congressional officials suggested Friday that emphasizing a terrorist threat now was a good way to divert attention from the uproar over the N.S.A.'s data-collection programs, and that if it showed the intercepts had uncovered a possible plot, even better.- published: 20 Feb 2014

Nelson Mandela Blames US America For War in Irak 2003 Jan 30 Speech
"If there is a country that has committed unspeakable atrocities in the world, it is the United States of America. They don't care." Who said these words? Go on, guess? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Nope. Fidel Castro? Guess again. George Galloway, right? Wrong. It was the late, great Nelson Mandela, speaking in January 2003. Plenty of quotes from Madiba have been doing the rounds on Twitter and Facebook, in newspaper obituaries and online profiles, but this particular one hasn't had as much traction as the rest. Could it be because it defies the lazy image of the former South African president as a secular saint, a 'unifier', a figure who supposedly 'transcended' politics and the left-right divide? Could it be because it would force us to reluctantly acknowledge that the ex-ANC leader didn't just battle against injustice at home - who, after all, is pro-apartheid, these days? - but battled against injustice abroad, too. Against (yes, democratically-elected) leaders and governments in the west that now want to wrap themselves in his name, his memory, his legacy. Of the various tributes that have poured in over the past 24 hours from world leaders, both current and former, three in particular stood out for me. Former US president George W. Bush, in a statement put out by his office in Dallas, hailed Mandela as a "good man" and "one of the great forces for freedom and equality of our time". Former British prime minister Tony Blair told the BBC: "He was someone who would put people at their ease, he was someone who brought out the best in people, you felt that when you were with him." And the Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu said: "He will be remembered as the father of the new South Africa and a moral leader of the highest order." Yes, yes, yes. We get it. We all agree on the "good man", "moral leader", "brought out the best in people" stuff. So far, so uncontroversial. But when will Messrs Bush, Blair or Netanyahu, or their outriders in the media, admit that the late South African president was also a proud, passionate and life-long critic of some of the key policies that they advocated and implemented, both in and out of high office. Take Iraq. In a speech in January 2003, two months before the invasion, Mandela said military action against the Saddam Hussein regime without UN Security Council approval would be illegitimate; he savaged both Bush and Blair for "undermining the United Nations". He also accused the then president of the United States, a "small man" who has "no foresight", of "wanting to plunge the world into a holocaust". Yes, holocaust. And yes, Mandela said it. Not John Pilger or Michael Moore. "Why is the United States behaving so arrogantly?" he continued. "All that (Mr. Bush) wants is Iraqi oil." Again, Nelson Mandela speaking. Not Tony Benn or the Stop The War Coalition. (In the same speech, incidentally, he also attacked the United States more broadly for its poor post-war record on human rights and for its nuclear strike on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was in this context that he made his stinging remark about America's "unspeakable atrocities".) Take Afghanistan and the so-called 'war on terror'. After initially giving his support to the US-led assault on the Taliban in the aftermath of the horrific 9/11 attacks, Mandela quickly backtracked, saying in January 2002 that his earlier views had been "one-sided and overstated". He apologised for having given the impression that he was "insensitive to and uncaring about the suffering inflicted upon the Afghan people and country" and reminded the Bush administration that the "labeling of Osama bin Laden as the terrorist responsible for those acts before he had been tried and convicted could also be seen as undermining some of the basic tenets of the rule of law". In his 2002 statement, Mandela reiterated his opposition to acts of terror, and reminded readers of how appalled he had been by the barbarism of the 9/11 attacks, but argued that those responsible for bringing down the Twin Towers must be "apprehended and brought to trial without inflicting suffering on innocent people". Do we now have to rebrand Madiba as an apologist for Al Qaeda and appeaser of the Taliban? Take, perhaps above all else, Israel and its treatment of the occupied Palestinian people. Mandela referred to Yasser Arafat as a "comrade in arms"; in February 1990, just 16 days after being released from prison, Mandela embraced Arafat in Lusaka, Zambia, comparing the Palestinian struggle against Israel to the black struggle against the apartheid regime in South Africa.- published: 09 Dec 2013

Boko Haram's Leader Shekau Is Dead - Terrorists Weakened
http://www.africtoday.com Coomassie, who said this at the inauguration of the renovated Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, building complex at Area 10, Garki, Abuja, also noted that the wave of terror had subsided. There are, however, concerns as to the veracity of claims by the JTF in Maiduguri that Shekau had died. Although, Defence spokesman, Brig.- Gen. Chris Olukolade, did not immediately respond to media enquiries, a source close to the defunct JTF said the claim could be a ploy by the security forces to "bring out" Shekau. The source said: "He has not been seen for quite some time after he was believed to have been fatally wounded in a gun duel with the Special Forces. "However, it is not very certain if he is dead but the announcement by the JTF would serve the purpose of bringing him out from his hideout, that is, if he is still alive. Naturally, he would want to react. "Even if he comes on Youtube now, the JTF can still decode whether such a message is doctored or recorded prior to his death. "The second end that the announcement would serve is that the credit goes to the JTF if actually the man has died. Do not forget that the military has guarded this information jealously before now but the JTF decided to make the disclosure probably because it has been disbanded and their operation would now revert to the Army Headquarters". A security expert and former Director in the State Security Service, SSS, Mr. Mike Ejiofor, said the reported killing of Shekau could weaken the sect but that it might not signify an end to terrorism. "The US killed Osama Bin Laden but Al Qaeda is still in existence. It is just that it is no longer as vicious and active as it used to be. It is going to be the same thing with Boko Haram. Coomasie however urged Nigerians to assist in providing the police and other security agencies with relevant information to enable them rid the nation of terrorist elements. "You can see that the Boko Haram menace has now subsided. The Federal Government is now active and doing a lot of job to get rid of these people (sect members). "With more intelligence and effective cooperation, we will return to the status quo where we lived in peaceful existence in this country. "But it is the job of all of us, if you have information, authentic intelligence information, pass it to the police and other security agencies,'' he said. He also urged the government at all levels to continue to fund the police and assist it in the area of training and retraining to do their job and make the nation safe and secure. Earlier, the Inspector- General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, reiterated the commitment of the Force to providing an environment conducive for effective policing. Abubakar commended the officers and men of the force for doing their best in the current fight against crime and insecurity in the country but urged them to do more. The Minister of Police Affairs, retired Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade, noted that capability to properly investigate crime was a major factor in achieving national security. Olubolade said that proper crime investigation could result in a "safer and more secured Nigeria."- published: 21 Aug 2013

Alex Jones' Infowars.com - Mr. John Loftus explains terrorism.
the original article is The Alex Jones' Infowars - August 2, 2005 Terror Expert: London Bombings Mastermind is MI6 Asset http://www.infowars.com/articles/London_attack/mastermind_mi6_asset.htm LOFTUS: Right, Aswat is believed to be the mastermind of all the bombings in London. JERRICK: On 7/7 and 7/21, this is the guy we think. LOFTUS: This is the guy, and what's really embarrassing is that the entire British police are out chasing him, and one wing of the British government, MI6 or the British Secret Service, has been hiding him. And this has been a real source of contention between the CIA, the Justice Department, and Britain. JERRICK: MI6 has been hiding him. Are you saying that he has been working for them? LOFTUS: Oh I'm not saying it. This is what the Muslim sheik said in an interview in a British newspaper back in 2001. JERRICK: So he's a double agent, or was? LOFTUS: He's a double agent. JERRICK: So he's working for the Brits to try to give them information about Al-Qaeda, but in reality he's still an Al-Qaeda operative. LOFTUS: Yeah. The CIA and the Israelis all accused MI6 of letting all these terrorists live in London not because they're getting Al-Qaeda information, but for appeasement. It was one of those you leave us alone, we leave you alone kind of things. JERRICK: Well we left him alone too long then. LOFTUS: Absolutely. Now we knew about this guy Aswat. Back in 1999 he came to America. The Justice Department wanted to indict him in Seattle because him and his buddy were trying to set up a terrorist training school in Oregon. JERRICK: So they indicted his buddy, right? But why didn't they indict him? LOFTUS: Well it comes out, we've just learned that the headquarters of the US Justice Department ordered the Seattle prosecutors not to touch Aswat. JERRICK: Hello? Now hold on, why? LOFTUS: Well, apparently Aswat was working for British intelligence. Now Aswat's boss, the one-armed Captain Hook, he gets indicted two years later. So the guy above him and below him get indicted, but not Aswat. Now there's a split of opinion within US intelligence. Some people say that the British intelligence fibbed to us. They told us that Aswat was dead, and that's why the New York group dropped the case. That's not what most of the Justice Department thinks. They think that it was just again covering up for this very publicly affiliated guy with Al-Muhajiroun. He was a British intelligence plant. So all of a sudden he disappears. He's in South Africa. We think he's dead; we don't know he's down there. Last month the South African Secret Service come across the guy. He's alive. JERRICK: Yeah, now the CIA says, oh he's alive. Our CIA says OK let's arrest him. But the Brits say no again? LOTFUS: The Brits say no. Now at this point, two weeks ago, the Brits know that the CIA wants to get a hold of Haroon. So what happens? He takes off again, goes right to London. He isn't arrested when he lands, he isn't arrested when he leaves. JERRICK: Even though he's on a watch list. LOFTUS: He's on the watch list. The only reason he could get away with that was if he was working for British intelligence. He was a wanted man. JERRICK: And then takes off the day before the bombings, I understand it-- LOFTUS: And goes to Pakistan. JERRICK: And Pakistan, they jail him. LOFTUS: The Pakistanis arrest him. They jail him. He's released within 24 hours. Back to Southern Africa, goes to Zimbabwe and is arrested in Zambia. Now the US-- JERRICK: Trying to get across the-- LOFTUS: --we're trying to get our hands on this guy. JERRICK: John, hang around. I have so many questions now. LOFTUS: Oh, this is a bad one.... DRC Sends More Troops to Frontline Capturing Prisoners of War and Child Soldiers
Congolese army sends more troops to frontline, shows off captured rebels. Full story: The Congolese army sends more troops to Goma, and area previously occupied by M23 rebels. Columns of troops are seen carrying weapons to the front-line as they pursue the fleeing rebels. The M23 rebels said they quit the hill fronts of Goma to allow an independent investigation into a shelling that has killed civilians in Goma and in neighboring Rwanda. Congolese officials paraded prisoners of war captured during the fighting. Three of them were said to be from Rwanda, including two child soldiers. [Colonel Olivier Amuli, Congolese Military Spokesman]: "Some of these prisoners of war are children and they were used as child soldiers. Apart from being child soldiers, they are foreigners but they are protected by international laws that defines how prisoners of war are supposed to be treated. We plan to hold talks with the concerned country where they come from and see the way forward for them." Both Congo's army and rebels accuse the other of firing the missiles that hit Rwanda—the fear is Rwanda might openly intervene in a country where it has fought two wars in the last two decades.
