Edward Snowden NBC Interview: "I Was Trained As A Spy"
"Edward Snowden, in an exclusive interview with "Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams, is fighting back against critics who dismissed him as a low-level hacker — saying he was "trained as a spy" and offered technical expertise to high levels of government. "I was trained as a spy in sort of the traditional sense of the word, in that I lived and worked undercover overseas — pretending to work in a job that I'm not — and even being assigned a name that was not mine," Snowden said in the interview." "I personally am surprised that I ended up here," Snowden said in the interview, an excerpt of which aired on TODAY on Wednesday morning. Snowden's comments about his new home came in an extended, wide-ranging interview with Williams, his first with a U.S. television network, airs Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. "The reality is I never intended to end up in Russia," he said. "I had a flight booked to Cuba onwards to Latin America and I was stopped because the United States government decided to revoke my passport and trap me in Moscow Airport. "So when people ask why are you in Russia, I say, 'Please ask the State Department." Secretary of State John Kerry hit back in a live interview on TODAY. "For a supposedly smart guy, that's a pretty dumb answer, frankly," Kerry said. "If Mr. Snowden wants to come back to the United States today, we'll have him on a flight today. "We'd be delighted for him to come back. He should come back. That's what a patriot would do. A patriot would not run away and look for refuge in Russia or Cuba or some other country. A patriot would stand up in the United States and make his case to the American people," Kerry added. "He can come home but he's a fugitive from justice which is why he is not being permitted to fly around the world," he said. Asked whether he had changed his mind about the nature of Snowden's actions, Kerry said Snowden "stole" information and did "great damage" to the United States. "The fact is if he cares so much about America and he believes in America, he should trust in the American system of justice," Kerry said. "But to be hiding in Russia, an authoritarian country, and to have just admitted he was really just trying to get to Cuba — what does that tell you?" he added. "I think he's confused. I think it's very sad." In an interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC, Kerry called Snowden a "coward" and a "traitor." "There are many a patriot. You can go back to the Pentagon Papers with Dan Ellsberg and others who stood and went to court system of America and made their case." He said Snowden's leaks had concrete effects. "What he's done is expose for terrorists a lot of mechanisms which now affect operational security of those terrorists and make it harder for the United States to break up plots, harder to protect our nation," he said. Kerry was also asked about Snowden's exclusive NBC News interview while appearing on CBS. "He should man up and come back to the United States," the secretary of state said. Unprincipled Politicos Attack Edward Snowden After NBC Interview
The Young Turks discuss responses from Secretary of State John F. Kerry, Rep. Peter King, and Rep. John Boehner to NBC's interview of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Steve, John and Jimmy also discuss the reason why these politicians are attacking Snowden. Is Snowden a hero or a traitor? Tell us what you think in the comment section below. Secretary of State John F. Kerry on Wednesday called National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden a fugitive and challenged him to "man up and come back to the United States." "I think this guy is a fraud," Rep. Peter King said. "And I really wish that Brian Williams had gone after him and asked him to give one piece of evidence that shows the NSA has violated the law in any way." "Edward Snowden is a traitor to our country. He's damaged our ability to keep Americans safe here and abroad. There is no other word to describe other than traitor," John Boehner said. http://www.twitter.com/stevenoh88 http://www.twitter.com/jiadarola http://www.twitter.com/jimmy_dore- published: 30 May 2014

Edward Snowden NBC NEWS FULL INTERVIEW
edward snowden full interview with nbc news and brian williams. NBC News interview with Brian Williams Wednesday night, Edward Snowden talked about how 9/11 personally affected him, and charged that the government has exploited that tragedy to justify spying on American citizens. He said, "It's really disingenuous for the government to invoke and sort of scandalize our memories to sort of exploit the national trauma that we all suffered together and worked so hard to come through to justify programs that have never been shown to keep us safe, but cost us liberties and freedoms that we don't need to give up and our Constitution says we don't need to give up." Williams challenged him, asking why the government wouldn't want to "cast the widest net possible" after a horrible attack on the country. Snowden argued that the U.S. can't turn into a security state and if the American people want to be free, "we can't become subject to surveillance, we can't give away our privacy, we can't give away our rights." Edward Snowden Censored 9/11 Segment - " Had All Info Needed To Detect Plot "
(infowars.com) - NBC CENSORS SNOWDEN'S CRITICAL 9/11 COMMENTS FROM PRIME TIME AUDIENCE ---- "They found that we had all of the information we needed as an intelligence community... to detect this plot" ------ Statements made by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden regarding the 9/11 terror attacks were edited out of his NBC Nightly News interview with Brian Williams Wednesday in what appears to be an attempt to bolster legitimacy for the agency's controversial surveillance programs. Snowden's comments surrounding the failure of dragnet surveillance in stopping the 9/11 attacks were censored from the prime time broadcast and instead buried in an hour long clip on NBC's website. "You know this is a key question that the 9/11 commission considered, and what they found in the postmortem when they looked at all the classified intelligence from all the different intelligence agencies, they found that we had all of the information we needed as an intelligence community, as a classified sector, as the national defense of the United States, to detect this plot," Snowden said. "We actually had records of the phone calls from the United States and out. The CIA knew who these guys were. The problem was not that we weren't collecting information, it wasn't that we didn't have enough dots, it wasn't that we didn't have a haystack, it was that we did not understand the haystack that we had." NBC's decision to annex Snowden's comments are unsurprising given the fact that the 9/11 attacks are exhaustively used by the federal government as the prime justification for surveilling millions of innocent Americans. Snowden remarked on the government's prior knowledge of the accused Boston bombers as well, also cut from the prime time interview. 'If we're missing things like the Boston Marathon bombings where all of these mass-surveillance systems, every domestic dragnet in the world, didn't reveal guys that the Russian intelligence service told us about by name, is that really the best way to protect our country or are we trying to throw money at a magic solution that's actually not just costing us our safety, but our rights and our way of life," Snowden said. Despite countless government officials pointing to 9/11 foreknowledge, whether missed or ignored, establishment media outlets have continually worked to keep such voices out of relevant reporting.- published: 30 May 2014

"If you do one thing today, watch this 40-minute crash course in Design Thinking."

"A great story beautifully told."
Ken Carbone, Designer, Chief Creative Director, Carbone Smolan Agency
“This [film] is about patient and dedicated teaching, about learning to look and visualize in order to design, about the importance of drawing. It is one designer’s personal experience of issues that face all designers, expressed with sympathy and encouragement, and illustrated with examples of Inge [Druckrey]’s own work and that of grateful generations of her students. There are simple phrases that give insights into complex matters, for example that letterforms are ‘memories of motion.’ Above all, it is characteristic of Inge that in this examination of basic principles the word “beautiful” is used several times.”
Matthew Carter, type designer, MacArthur Fellow
“This film is absolutely beautiful. I'm so impressed with it and learned so much in such a compact piece. I feel like it picked up where Helvetica left off with the subtle principles of typographical balance and some early history stemming from the human hand. Your wonderful teaching approach comes through loud and clear and stands as an inspiration and model for others including myself. This is fantastic.”
Luke Geissbuhler, Cinematographer of Helvetica and other films
"A great documentation of the visual values we hold dear."
Roger Remington, Vignelli Distinguished Professor of Design, RIT
"A fine, insightful and educational documentary. It captures Inge’s work as a designer and educator, her thinking and her SEEING, in a wonderful and most perfect way. Truly Inspirational!"
Hans-Ulrich Allemann, Designer/Educator

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Man On Fire [Official Video]
"Man on Fire", from the new album 'Here', available on iTunes now: http://glnk.it/171
Lyrics:
I’m a man on fire
Walking through your street
With one guitar
And two dancing feet
Only one desire
That’s left in me
I want the whole damn world
To come dance with me
(ohhhhhhhh. Come dance with me)
I’m a hunter at bay
Come and set you free
Over heartache and shame
I wanna see our bodies burning like the old big sun
I wanna know what we’ve been learning and learning from
Everybody want safety (safety love)
Everybody want comfort (comfort love)
Everybody want certain (certain love)
Everybody but me
I’m a man on fire
Walking down your street
With one guitar
And two dancing feet
Only one desire
That’s left in me
I want the whole damn world
To come and dance with me
(bah bah bah bah bah…)
Yay, yay. Come dance with me
Over heartache and rage
Come set us free
Over panic and strange
I wanna see our bodies burning like the old big sun
I wanna know what we’ve been learning and learning from
Everybody want romance (romance love)
Everybody want safety (safety love)
Everybody want comfort (comfort love)
Everybody but me
I’m a man on fire (he’s a man on fire)
Walking down your street (walking down your street)
With one guitar (With one guitar)
And two dancing feet (two dancing feet)
Only one desire (one desire)
That’s still in me (that’s left in me)
I want the whole damn world (I want the whole damn world)
To come and dance with me (come and dance with me yeahhhhh…)
