In a historic event marking culmination of the long-drawn-out process of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao will assume the office as first Chief Minister of Telangana which becomes 29th state of the country on Monday.

The swearing-in ceremony would take place at 8.15 am at Raj Bhavan here.

The President\'s rule which is in place in united Andhra Pradesh revoked partially to facilitate the swearing-in of new government under KCR.

TRS secured majority in recent Legislative Assembly elections by winning 63 of the 119 seats in Telangana region.

Prior to KCR\'s coronation, Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan would take oath as the Governor of Telangana.

Narasimhan, a former Chief of Intelligence Bureau, would function as the Governor of Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh.

After the swearing-in ceremony, KCR would attend the official celebrations of Telangana Formation Day at Parade Grounds here.

Speculation is rife over the composition of council of ministers of KCR and names of E Rajender, who was TRS floor leader in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, T Harish Rao, who is nephew of KCR, TRS MLC Mahmood Ali, KCR\'s son K T Rama Rao, senior MLA Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy and senior leader Nayani Narasimha Reddy are doing the rounds as probables to find a berth.

Among woman MLAs of TRS, the names of Konda Surekha, Padma Devender Reddy and Kova Lakshmi are reportedly under consideration.

KCR is reportedly considering expanding his Cabinet towards the end of the month.

The TRS government is expected to announce lifting the police cases filed against Telangana supporters during the separate statehood agitation and announce benefits for the families of those who reportedly died in support of the separate statehood demand, among the major decisions to be taken soon after assuming office.

The buzz is that senior IAS officer Rajiv Sharma, who is presently working in the Union Home Ministry, and incumbent Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma are likely to take over as the Chief Secretary and DGP of Telangana respectively.

On March 11th Berkin Elvin, a 15-year-old Turkish boy died after spending 269 days in a coma. The teenager had been buying bread in his neighborhood last June, when a tear gas canister struck his skull during a brutal police crackdown against citywide demonstrations.

As news of the boy\'s death spread, Istanbul\'s streets filled with mourners and protestors shouting anti-government slogans in a massive outpouring of grief and rage against police brutality and the increasingly authoritarian government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The demonstrations, which led to violent clashes with police were the largest and angriest protests seen in Turkey since last summer.

Three brothers have confessed to involvement in the gang rape of two teenage girls in India, a police officer told CNN.
The men have pleaded guilty to the rape charges but have not admitted to killing the girls, police spokesman Mukesh Saxena said Sunday.
All five known suspects, including two police officers, have been arrested, he said.
The police complaint also names two unknown people in the case. Investigations are trying to determine their identity, Saxena said.
The assault on the cousins, ages 14 and 16, sparked outrage in the community in Uttar Pradesh state. After being gang raped, they were hanged from a mango tree, police said.
Villagers streamed into the homes of the girls\' relatives, weeping behind their customary veils. The mother of one of the girls said her daughter wanted to become a doctor to escape grinding poverty.
The attackers, she said, deserved the same fate that befell her daughter.

US Warns Beijing On South China Sea Tensions The US has warned China that moving a drilling rig into seas disputed with Vietnam was "provocative". In a telephone call, US Secretary of State John Kerry told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi the US had "strong concerns" over recent developments. Last week, Chinese and Vietnamese ships clashed over the drilling rig that China has placed in waters near the disputed Paracel Islands. China and Manila are also at odds over overlapping territorial claims. Beijing claims a U-shaped swathe of the South China Sea that covers areas other South East Asian nations say are their territory. The issue has been rumbling in recent years amid an increasingly assertive stance from China over its claims. Monaco's Prince Albert II and his South African wife Princess Charlene have announced that they are expecting their first child. In a short statement, the couple - who married in July 2011 - expressed their "immense joy" at the news. The statement said the birth was expected before the end of the year, but gave no further details. Prince Albert II, 56, has been Monaco's ruler since the death of his father, Prince Rainier III, in 2005. Princess Charlene, 36, represented South Africa in the swimming competitions at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Their child will become first in line to the throne of Monaco. The tiny principality of Monaco, which covers about 2sq km (less than one square mile), is the world's smallest independent state after the Vatican City. Tags:

Villagers streamed into the homes of the girls' relatives, weeping behind their customary veils. The mother of one of the girls said her daughter wanted to become a doctor to escape grinding poverty. The attackers, she said, deserved the same fate that befell her daughter. "Hang them in public," she said. CNN cannot identify the relatives or victims under Indian law. In the northern village where the attack occurred, crowds surrounded the girls for hours after their bodies were found Wednesday. They accused authorities of siding with the suspects and blocked them from taking the girls down from their nooses unless arrests are made. In addition to possible rape and murder charges, the officers face charges of conspiracy in the crime and negligence of duty after villagers accused them of failing to respond when they first pinpointed the suspects. An autopsy confirmed that the girls had been raped and strangled, according to authorities. They were cremated the same day the bodies were found, in line with Hindu customs, said Mukesh Saxena, a local police official. "We are scared," said Renu Devi, a woman in the village where the attack occurred. "If this could happen to them, it could happen to us also." Police under scrutiny Devi has reason to fear. The girls were out in the orchard relieving themselves Tuesday night when the attackers grabbed them, authorities said. Toilets are rare in the village, forcing women to wander away into fields in the dead of night. "There's no toilet. Where can the girls go?" shouted Jamuni Devi, another woman from the village. "No one has done anything for sanitation." Indians have more access to mobile phones than to toilets, according to a United Nations report four years ago. "India has some 545 million cell phones, enough to serve about 45% of the population," according to the U.N. But it also has the highest number of people in the world -- an estimated 620 million -- who defecate in the open, according to UNICEF. The lack of indoor plumbing leaves women in rural areas vulnerable to frequent rapes and beatings. "It is a tragic irony to think that in India, a country now wealthy enough that roughly half of the people own phones, about half cannot afford the basic necessity and dignity of a toilet," said Zafar Adeel, who chairs the organization U.N.-Water. Unable to stop Some people saw the abduction but were unable to stop it, police spokesman Saxena said, citing witnesses. His account echoed that of the father of the older victim, who alleged that a scuffle broke out between a relative and the three brothers suspected of the attack. "They scared my cousin away with a locally made pistol," he said. The daughter he lost was his only child. The victims' relatives accused local police of failing to respond and siding with the suspects when the parents reported the case. The allegations have fueled anger among the villagers. "If police wanted, my daughter would have been alive today," he said.

A deal for the Chilcot Inquiry to publish only "quotes or gists" of discussions between President Bush and Tony Blair in the run-up to the Iraq war has been agreed with the government. The inquiry has been given access to full records of talks between the two leaders but is being prevented from publishing them in its final report - even after offering to block-out sensitive parts. Wrangling over what could be published is thought to have delayed the report's release, which could now happen by the end of 2014. Nick Robinson reports.

Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan sign 'epoch' Eurasian Economic Union
Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan sign 'epoch' Eurasian Economic Union

Back in POWER! | Putin's New 'Soviet Union' | May 29, 2014 RT. Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan signed the historic Eurasian Economic Union which will come into effect in January 2015. Cutting down trade barriers and comprising over 170 million people it will be the largest common market in the ex-Soviet sphere. "The just-signed treaty is of epoch-making, historic importance," Russian President Vladimir Putin said. The troika of countries will cooperate in energy, industry, agriculture, and transport. "In fact, we are shaping the largest common market in the CIS, with huge production, scientific and technological potential and enormous natural resources," the President added. Citizens of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan will have the right to work freely throughout the member states without having to be issued any special work permits, Putin said. Over the last three years, trade within the Customs Union has increased by $23 billion, or nearly 50 percent. At the end of 2013, it stood at $66.2 billion. Belarus and Kazakhstan are in third place in foreign trade with the Russian Federation, after the EU and China, Putin said. The Russian leader said that the document brings Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus to a new level of integration yes lets each individual state fully retain its sovereignty. "We ensure a close and coherent economic collaboration and cooperation. Today we have created a powerful and attractive center of economic development, a large regional market that brings together more than 170 people. Our union has huge reserves of natural resources, including energy, which accounts for one fifth of the world's gas reserves and 15 percent of oil reserves," Putin said. "A new geopolitical reality of the 21st century is born," Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said shortly after the final treaty was signed by the three leaders. "We see this as an open space and a new bridge between the growing economies of Europe and Asia," Nazarbayev added. David Gray, head of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Russia, said he hoped improving trade will help boost investment, as in the EU. "If you look at the EU, for example, the reduction of trade barriers within the EU had a significant impact in terms of doing business, which does encourage investment. And I'm looking forward to similar results in terms of the Eurasia deal," Gray said while speaking to RT at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum on May 24. However, Kazakh President Nazarbayev warned members to try and avoid repeating the mistakes of the European Union, which is still facing grave economic consequences from the continent-wide recession. "The point is that none of the participating countries were subject to de-industrialization, and traditional industries did not suffer. Lessons from the European recession are in this," Nazarbayev said. Belarusian President Lukashenko hailed the signing, but said there was still major work to be done in areas of bilateral trade. "We believe the Economic Union will be the foundation for the future of political, military, and humanitarian unity," he said. The Customs Union is a project to gather ex-Soviet states into a free trade zone to rival the European Union. The three member states of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan only comprise 2.5 percent to the Earth's population, but account for 15 percent of the total land. "The geographical position permits us to create transport, logistic routes of not only regional, but also global importance that permits attracting massive trade flows in Europe and Asia," Putin said ahead of the signing ceremony in Astana, Kazakhstan on Thursday. All member states will retain full state sovereignty. Russia is financing the lion's share of the administration, but each state will have a one-third voting status. "The Eurasian Economic Union will operate on universal transparent principles understood by all, including standards and principles of the WTO," Putin said. The idea of creating a regional trading bloc was first suggested by President Nursultan Nazabayev of Kazakhstan back in 1994, when he gave a speech at Moscow State University. The Customs Union began on January 1, 2010, and started operating under a comprehensive customs code in July 2011. Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) like Armenia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan may be brought into the free trade zone later. Kyrgyzstan plans to join the Customs Union by the end of 2014, President Almazbek Atambayev said at the meeting. A decision on Armenia's membership will have to be made by July 2014, Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazabayev said.
