Peace News Summer Camp, now in its sixth year, helps build a radical movement for the future by creating an inclusive, participatory community today. A family-friendly and renewably-powered camp, we’re running from 31 July – 4 August, in the beautiful grounds of Peakhill Farm in sunny Suffolk.

In 2014, we’re bringing peace and justice activists from across Europe to help us mark the centenary of the First World War – and to declare peace on the 100th anniversary of the day that Britain declared war on Germany. We will also have workshops and discussions, practical skills sessions, delicious vegan food cooked by Veggies, films, fun and DIY entertainment, a bar, a campfire, and activities and facilities for children and families.

Our wonderful speakers will include Professor Paul Rogers of Bradford School of Peace Studies.

Workshops and activities at the camp will include: ‘The World is My Country’: Stories of the Resistance to the First World War / Syria in Crisis / Radical Clowning / Countering the Militarisation of Youth Across Europe / Samba / Communicating Nonviolently / The First World War Seen From the Global South / Vegan Cake-making / Remembering Howard Clark / Improving Facilitation / Better Strategies for Winning Campaigns / Singing / Making Nonviolent Revolution / Radical Knitting / Yoga / Consensus Decision-Making / Chomsky's Politics

SchNEWS in Brief...
CRAP ARREST OF THE WEEK

For standing idly by...

Walking down the street, minding your own business and being stopped by the cops may come as no surprise to some...

Being asked to show your ID and asked whether or not you are a squatter, again is uncalled for but not that unlikely...

Asking the police what gave them the right to do this and them laughing and saying “Hah! We're the police” by way of explanation is pretty much your run of the mill response these days...

But then arresting the person standing next to you? Well that would really take the piss.

And that is exactly what Dutch police did as they took the piss all the way to the station when they arrested someone last Wednesday (16th) in a
south east neighbourhood of central Amsterdam and kept them banged up for a quite a few hours because “Hah! They are the police”.

and finally...

NAZI PORNSTAR KNOB CAKE SHAME.

SchNEWS warns all readers, we're not actually Communists. Honest!
