CFMEU calls for more cooperative approach from Lend Lease

 

The CFMEU called on Lend Lease for a more cooperative approach on safety following an internal audit conducted by the company that revealed serious safety breaches.

CFMEU National Construction Secretary Dave Noonan said Lend Lease senior management should listen to their workforce and engage constructively with their unions if they wanted safer workplaces.

“This audit, which is the company’s own document, reveals 60 safety breaches which have put workers at risk of fire, falls from heights and electrocution in the past 12 months.

Forestry SA seeking to halve its workforce in a year – union seeks urgent meeting with Government.

The CFMEU has been told by Forestry SA that it has sought the South Australian Government’s approval to reduce its workforce by 50 per cent within a year, and halve their redundancy entitlements.

Forestry SA employs 280 people across regional South Australia – the majority in Mt Gambier and the South East, but also Mt Crawford in the Adelaide Hills, and in the Wirrabara area. Around 150 jobs are at stake.

Youth unemployment on the rise and apprenticeships on the decline.

Youth unemployment on the rise and apprenticeships on the decline: urgent action needed 

Recent figures from the National Centre for Vocational Educational Research (NCVER), show a 14.2% decrease in the take up rates of apprenticeships from the previous year.

The numbers pertaining to construction are even more alarming as a recent environmental scan conducted by the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC) report completions of apprenticeships in that sector are down by 18%.
