Shep Smith had some pretty tough words for Donald Trump over a debate performance that the Fox anchor considered great red meat but basically a sign that the GOP nominee has given up on trying to expand beyond his base.
He said Trump’s attacks on Hillary Clinton was “great stuff” for the GOP base––people who’ve hated the Clintons for decades––but those people were already going to vote for him, and as Smith argued, he should have been appealing to suburban women and flat-out didn’t.
Wall Street Journal editor Glenn Hall said Trump was attempting to throw a lot at her so he could get his message and a “substantive discussion” out there.

There are no words to describe the way Fox News Channel’s Shep Smith has been covering Hurricane Matthew. There has been a lot of sensational coverage of what could be a very historic storm, but Smith’s requires a video. There is no other way.

As you see, that started out pretty normal. Well, Smith showed footage of a house being torn apart and said, “This is a house, mm-hmm, see that? We can’t play the audio because there’s a wordy-dird in there. Somebody said a dirty word[.]” That makes “wordy-dird” the word of the day.
He also explained that people who don’t want to evacuate — “because freedom and stuff, freedom” — will ruin his plans for the evening.
“We’ll have round-the-clock Team Fox smotherage for the rest of your life on this thing,” he explained. “We’ll be live all night long tonight; I won’t be because I’m going to a family wedding. So if you’re supposed to get out, go ahead and get out, ’cause if too many of you perish, they’ll send me down there and I need to go to this wedding, okay? Thanks.”

After hoodwinking the dog into trading the bone for a giant plaster bone facsimile loaded with dynamite connected to an ignited fuse, Shep waits for the explosion, then flees the enraged bulldog. He goes back to the museum with the bone in his mouth, but to his dismay, he learns from the archaeologist that the archaeologist had the bone in question in his pocket all the time and that the bone Shep had labored to retrieve had just been an old soup bone.
