Denmark is the southernmost of the Nordic countries, located southwest of Sweden and south of Norway, and bordered to the south by Germany. The country consists of a large peninsula, Jutland and many islands, most notably Zealand, Funen, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm, as well as hundreds of minor islands often referred to as the Danish Archipelago.

Optimising Aarhus's transport system with Bluetooth (Denmark)
Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark. Its urban zone has a population of 1.2 million inhabitants. In 2011 the city implemented a highly innovative and cost-effective solution using Bluetooth technology to monitor travel times and traffic flow throughout the metropolitan area. A network of sensors has been deployed on two ring roads, detecting Bluetooth signals coming from the vehicles and other devices on-board such as mobile phones and tablets. The data generated, which are collected in data ‘loggers’ along the roads, are then filtered by tailor-designed algorithms and finally uploaded and securely stored in the cloud. Users, such as traffic engineers, can access it using an easy-to-use dashboard showing an accurate picture about road users. The monitoring system gives information and warns about queues and delays, identifies problem areas, evaluates and calibrates traffic signals, provides information on the capacity of existing roads, and detects changes in traffic patterns. Thanks to its network of more than 130 units across the city. Aarhus now has a range of new possibilities to manage road traffic.

Free public transport was one of several measures to increase the quality of public transport in Tallinn. Indeed, a customer satisfaction survey held in November 2013 confirmed that satisfaction with the quality of service had improved.

Copenhagen is the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark and is situated on the east coast of Sæland Island on the Öresund, the link between the North Sea and the Baltic. In 1167, Bishop Absalon of Roskilde was granted by King Valdemar I an area of land on Öresund, to which the small settlement of Havn also belonged. For the protection of both fishermen and traders, he built a fortress and the settlement developed into Kobenhavn, the H

Welcome to Copenhagen, Denmark! This stunning place is also called “The City of Spires,” and after arriving here, you’ll see why.
A tour of Copenhagen reveals cobblestone streets, beautiful canals, and many 16th and 17th-century buildings crowned by the aforementioned spires. Don’t let the archaic exterior of these buildings fool you; they house very modern restaurants, theaters, and shops, and you can easily spend days sampling seafood and coffees at the various eateries.
One of Copenhagen’s most beloved attractions is Tivoli Gardens, a theme park that dates back to 1843. Watch a pantomime, ride one of the oldest roller coasters, or just

Denmark Travel Guide - The Danes are, overwhelmingly, a happy bunch. In fact, if you believe those contentment surveys that come out every couple of years, Denmark is one of the happiest nations on earth with some of the best quality of life. Along winding cobbled streets Danes shop and dine at some of the most exciting places in Europe. Copenhagen's restaurants have more Michelin stars than any other Scandinavian city, and Denmark as a whole would doubtless have more still if the inspectors from Michelin ever troubled themselves to leave the capital and head for Aalborg or Århus & around. Boasting stunning modern architecture, world-class restaurants and cutting edge design, Copenhagen has much to offer visitors.
Canals, lakes and the sea form the backdrop to modern Copenhagen and are a reminder of the city's heritage as a major Baltic port. Despite being the largest city in Scandinavia, Copenhagen nevertheless retains a disarmingly provincial, small-town atmosphere. Gabled houses, narrow streets and delicate spires add it its appeal.

Take a tour of Tilsandede Kirke in Skagen, Denmark -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
At first glance, the Tilsandede Kirke, located in Skagen, Denmark, isn't much to look at.
However, the small, white tower that can be seen is only one part of the whole church.
The rest of the church remains buried under the earth, hence the name, which means Sand-Buried Church.
The Tilsandede Kirke closed in 1795 after sandy winds continuously built up dunes around the church.
Locals used the stones from several parts of the church for other buildings in the area.
After much research, the location

Travel video about destination Copenhagen in Denmark.
Copenhagen is the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark and is situated on the east coast of Sæland Island on the Öresund, the link between the North Sea and the Baltic. It is a European capital of culture, home country of the Little Mermaid and a successful combination of Scandinavian elegance and Middle-European joie de vivre.
In 1167, Bishop Absalon of Roskilde was granted by King Valdemar I an area of land on Öresund, to which the small settlement of Havn also belonged. For the protection of both fishermen and traders, he built a fortress and the settlement developed into Kobenhavn, the Harbor of Merchants. Copenhagen was born and the fortress was continuously enlarged until in 1376, a castle was built on its foundation.
The huge Christiansborg Palace extends across the larger part of Slotsholmen, Castle Island and it has been Denmark's power base for hundreds of years. The huge statue in the square features King Frederik VII on horseback, a monarch known in Danish history as the 'King of Democracy'.
Each day, crowds of people make for Copenhagen's world famous landmark, The Little Mermaid, created by artist Edvard Erikson. Tiny and elegant and seated on a stone, she gazes yearningly across the sea oblivious to the city's hustle and bustle.
The Rundetårn is an unusual building that was built at the command of the Renaissance king, Christian IV. Its circular tower is 36 metres high and has a diameter of 15 metres. In place of a conventional stairway, royal architects Hans Van Steenwinkel constructed a winding 209 metre long ramp, thus the somewhat rotund king was able to travel without difficulty by carriage to the astrological observatory at the top!
Copenhagen is a friendly metropolis in which tolerance and openness are the order of the day, a 'City on the Sea' that fascinates all who experience it.

Watch a pantomime, ride one of the oldest roller coasters, or just enjoy a trip in a dragon boat. After a few hours at Tivoli Gardens, continue your Copenhagen sightseeing in the city proper. Copenhagen is like something out of a fairy tale, full of multicolored houses and boats that tie up at Copenhagen’s wharves.
Next, rent a bike. With almost 250 miles of bicycle lanes, getting around two wheels is a healthy, athletic way to get to know the city. Ride your bike to Nyhavn, a waterfront district that dates back to the 17th century. This is the spot to make friends at the local pubs, or to simply sit and watch the boats go back and forth over the waters of the Oresund. Nyhavn is also home to “The Little Mermaid,” a statue fashioned after the titular character in the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Make sure you bring your camera, as the mermaid is a popular place for a photo op.

I thought the quality of the video was excellent and the presentation not too cheesy as is the case with Portugal. What do you think? Leave a comment.

Travel agent video about Copenhagen, Denmark, and Scandinavia
Even standards in a workaday Danish café are generally very high.
Beyond the capital and the bigger cities, Denmark offers a mix of lively towns such as Ribe and Odense plus rural countryside, medieval churches, Renaissance castles and tidy 18th-century villages. Neolithic dolmen, preserved 2000-year-old 'bog people', and impressive Viking ruins are just some of the remnants of the nation's long and fascinating history.
When you travel to Denmark, it continues to stamp its effortlessly cool style on the world with its furniture, fashion, architecture and graphic design, as it has done for the last half-century or so. This obsession with good design, detail and fine craftsmanship is evident even in something as mundane as a Copenhagen metro or train ride.

Copenhagen - Denmark Travel guide http://bit.ly/1bsslBD
Boasting stunning modern architecture, world-class restaurants and cutting edge design, Copenhagen has much to offer visitors.
Canals, lakes and the sea form the backdrop to modern Copenhagen and are a reminder of the city's heritage as a major Baltic port. Despite being the largest city in Scandinavia, Copenhagen nevertheless retains a disarmingly provincial, small-town atmosphere. Gabled houses, narrow streets and delicate spires add it its appeal.
Copenhagen is also Europe's greenest - much of the centre is reserved for pedestrians, strict anti-pollution laws are enforced and bikes often outnumber cars on the streets. Green spaces (including the world-famous Tivoli) abound, while, in the summer, locals throng to pavement cafés and restaurants.

After much research, the location of the nave and vestry was discovered and marked with stakes for visitors.

Denmark Travel Video Guide - The Danes are, overwhelmingly, a happy bunch.

This obsession with good design, detail and fine craftsmanship is evident even in something as mundane as a Copenhagen metro or train ride.
Centuries on from the Viking era, Denmark remains very much a maritime nation, bordered by the Baltic and the North Sea. No place in the country is more than an hour’s drive from its lovely seashore, much of which is lined with splendid white-sand beaches.
Denmark’s hydrocarbon-rich economy is booming; it has the highest per capita GDP in the European Union (EU); literacy is 100%; unemployment is low; and its social-welfare programmes are the envy of continents. Education is free, and about half of all Danish students who graduate from secondary school continue on to higher education.
You don’t need statistics to understand the Dane’s happy lot, though. Stroll around Copenhagen or pretty much any Danish town and you’ll experience some of the most harmonious civic spaces anywhere. The capital’s intimate scale and faultless transport systems combine with the ornate history and bold modern lines of the built environment to delight the eye, while the locals’ courtesy and sense of humour is refreshing.
It’s hard, in short, to find fault with the place. The visitor’s most heartfelt grumble is usually the cost of visiting Denmark. True, it is not a cheap destination, but no more so than the UK, and which nation’s public transport system would you rather use?
Cheer yourself up by thinking of the country’s peerless organisation and clockwork railway timetable as being subsidised by the extremely high taxes paid by your hosts. When viewed in this way, this first-rate destination seems like good value, and you get the fairy tales thrown in for free: the Danish royal family is genuinely loved and respected by the vast majority of its citizens, not least handsome Prince Frederik, his beautiful Australian-born princess-bride, Mary, and their young family.

Japan has Ramrajya in terms of Public transport System. It has Bullet Trains, Metros etc which serve for nearly 4 crore people. They are cleaned in just seven minutes and have a delay average of just a minute. Japan's trains and even the traffic on road has a system of security and speed. SoMAS / ITPA - Impact of Polar Mesoscale Storms on Atlantic Ocean Circulation
Alan Condron from the Department of Geosciences at University of Massachusetts, Amherst speaks to SoMAS on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.
Topic: "Impact of Polar Mesoscale Storms on Atlantic Ocean Circulation"
Abstract
Every year thousands of mesoscale (greater than 1000 km) storms cross the climatically sensitive sub-polar regions of the world's oceans. These storms are frequently too small, or short-lived, to be captured in meteorological reanalyses or numerical climate prediction models. As a result, the magnitude of the near-surface wind speeds and heat fluxes are considerably under-represented over the world's oceans where the atmospher

Seminar Series: Rethinking Transport Appraisal - Developing the Approaches to Transport Appraisal
Bartlett School of Planning, UCL
9th July 2015
Speaker: Dr Kim B. Salling (Technical University of Denmark)
A new composite decision support framework for strategic and sustainable transport
Background and Context
The process of transport investment appraisal and decision-making plays a critical part in prioritising investment in transport planning, and has been progressively developed and enhanced over the last 50 years in the UK, mainland Europe and North America. The UK Department for Transport’s WebTAG framework (DfT, 2014) now incorporates very detailed appraisal guidance, and is seen by some commentators as the ‘best and most thorough and transparent’ system of appraisal in the world.
However, this approach to project appraisal, largely based on cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and a weak application of multi-criteria analysis (MCA), has also attracted a growing volume of criticism, developing from the 1970s onwards, and gaining additional impetus in the last five years – with problems experienced in the quantification of impacts, in discounting, and with a poor representation of environmental and distributional issues. The experience of the appraisal process on major public transport infrastructure projects, such as High Speed 2, has illuminated the issues and the problematic nature of the current process. For many, the use of CBA is overplayed, and the practice has been taken too far – into areas of decision making that are too complex for simplistic economic analysis.
This seminar series tackles these issues, inviting national and international experts to UCL to debate the problems and likely solutions.
The seminar series will help to inform the work of UCL, as a lead partner in the EU INTERREG IVB SINTROPHER (http://sintropher.eu) project which is considering the role of the transport appraisal process in funding public transport infrastructure in ‘peripheral’ urban areas.
UCL Public Policy (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/public-policy) and UCL: Grand Challenges Sustainable Cities (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/sustainable-cities) are financially supporting the seminar series.

Ramrajya - Episode 6: Japan has the best public transport services and India needs to learn from it
Japan has Ramrajya in terms of Public transport System. It has Bullet Trains, Metros etc which serve for nearly 4 crore people. They are cleaned in just seven minutes and have a delay average of just a minute. Japan's trains and even the traffic on road has a system of security and speed. Despite consistent earthquakes, storms etc Japanese travel easily throughout their nation. In fact the people prefer to commute via trains and buses instead of private vehicles.
As a result, the magnitude of the near-surface wind speeds and heat fluxes are considerably under-represented over the world's oceans where the atmosphere influences mixing, deep convection, upwelling, and deep water mass formation. Numerical models must, however, realistically simulate these processes in order to accurately predict future changes in the strength of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) and the climate system. Implementing a parameterization to simulate mesoscale cyclones in the atmospheric fields driving an ocean model produced air-sea fluxes in remarkable agreement with observations. Over the Nordic Seas we found that mesoscale cyclones increased the depth, frequency and area of open ocean deep convection. At Denmark Strait we found a significant increase in the southward transport of Denmark Strait Overflow Water (DSOW); the deep water mass that plays a significant role in driving the Atlantic MOC. Further south there was an increase in the cyclonic rotation of the sub-polar gyres and an increase in the northward transport of heat into the region. We conclude that polar mesoscale cyclones play an important role in driving the large-scale ocean circulation and so must be simulated globally in order to make accurate short-term climate predictions.

Seminar Series: Rethinking Transport Appraisal - Developing the Approaches to Transport Appraisal
Bartlett School of Planning, UCL
9th July 2015
Chaired by Prof. Peter Jones (Centre for Transport Studies, UCL)
Speakers:
Prof. David Metz (Centre for Transport Studies, UCL)
Dr Kim B. Salling (Technical University of Denmark)
Prof. Cathy Macharis (Vrije Universiteit Brussel)

Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark, with an urban population of 1,246,611 and a metropolitan population of 1,990,036 (the July 1, 2014). It is located on the east coast of Zealand, 42 km (26 miles) northwest of Malmo, Sweden, 164 kilometers (102 miles) northeast of Odense. The city covers parts of the island of Amager and also contains the enclave of Frederiksberg, a municipality in its own right.
Founded as a Viking fishing village in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century During the 17th century, under the reign of Christian IV, has become an important regional center, strengthen its position capital of Denmark and Norway, with its institutions, defense and the armed forces. After suffering the effects of the plague and fire in the 18th century, the city experienced a period of reconstruction. This included the construction of the prestigious Frederiksstaden and creating these cultural institutions like the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After more disasters in the 19th century, when Nelson attacked the Danish fleet and bombed the city during the reconstruction Danish Golden Age brought a look of neoclassical architecture in Copenhagen. Later, after the Second World War, the Finger Plan promoted the development of homes and businesses in five urban rail lines extending from the center of town

After much research, the location of the nave and vestry was discovered and marked with stakes for visitors.
