The introduction of my video review series "Let Me Talk about Greg Egan." It covers Egan's novels about artificial intelligence, especially "Diaspora" and "Permutation City." I would like to decipher Egan's stories with using the chart showing the hierarchic structure of his logic.
Summary: - What Egan hopes to show us via Diaspora, is not the infinity of universe but the infinity of mind. - Diaspora chapter 1 is a literary expression of the automata theory and Church-Turing thesis. - Egan had to make chapter 1 complicated for providing mathematical background on the infinity of mind because he has excessive sincerity.

This video is a visualization of an interview of sitar maestro Ashwin Batish by Karl Gehrke of South Dakota Public Broadcasting radio. 'The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center in Spearfish presents a live performance by the Ashwin Batish Ensemble on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The band members were doing a residency in Spearfish classrooms today and tomorrow explaining the origins of their instruments and Indian music. Ashwin Batish is a sitarist and tabla player. He received training in the North Indian classical tradition from his father S.D. Batish and later created his own unique fusion of Indian classical sitar with pop, rock, jazz, calypso and funk. He calls his worldbeat music "Sitar Power." He's also an educator and gives private and group Indian music lessons at his Santa Cruz, California music school. His band includes Myron Dove (bass), Keshav Batish (tabla and percussion) and singer Meena Batish. For more information about the ensemble, go to: www.ashwinbatish.com.' "If global oneness and harmony is an ideal worth pursuing, then sitar master Ashwin Batish is on the forefront, bringing together multi-cultural music to create the Worldbeat genre, which blends Western pop music with traditional & folk non-Western musical influences. As a sonically adventurous fusion, Worldbeat packs quite a punch, especially in the hands of Ashwin Batish. View the video to get a taste of the ensemble’s music." Read the credits on this video to get a sense of Ashwin's amazing career in music and his collaborations with artists and organizations while on his journey to fuse and meld the widest possible array of cultural variety into his music making it a remarkably rich and exciting listen. In 2007, a year after Ashwin's father Pandit S.D. Batish passed away, Ashwin met Ravi Shankar. In many ways, Ashwin and Shankar share a very similar legacy: they both turned new audiences of young people on to the sitar at times when its true potential had been all but forgotten. Shankar did it in the ’60s, through his association with the Beatles. Ashwin did it two decades later, by fusing the sitar’s unique sound with contemporary rock—and a full spectrum of other genres—and backing it with insane variations on Indian rhythms that had DJs of the time spinning his “Raga Rock” and “India Beat” records on the dance floor. Ashwin is also very well know for being an educator. His series of instructional videos for the sitar, tabla, dilruba, dholak, vichitra veena, harmonium that he has produced with his father Pandit Shiv Dayal Batish have become a very sought after commodity by the Indian music student. Ashwin often gives private and group Indian music lessons at his Santa Cruz, California USA facility and is often called upon by various music festivals and universities to perform his sitar and be a guest lecturer for weekend workshops and seminars on Indian music and ethnopop, raga rock sitar fusion. Ashwin Batish’s pioneering effort in worldbeat music called “Sitar Power” has earned him some critical reviews and great respect in the music community. The sitar is ageless in Ashwin’s hands. It is souped up for amplification and effects. His music is as dynamic as his stage presence. Members of the band Myron Dove (Bass): Myron is a popular San Francisco Bay Area bass player whose versatility and killer chops have made him a sought after artist. In addition to his active collaboration with Ashwin Batish, he has performed and/or recorded with Santana, Robben Ford, Tony Furtado, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Narada Michael Walden, Herbie Hancock, Angela Bofill, Buddy Guy, Vince Gill, Wayne Shorter, Amy Grant, John Lee Hooker, Jeffrey Osborne, Boz Scaggs, Steve Winwood, Stevie Wonder, Rodney Franklin, Ronnie Montrose, Tony Williams, Mark Russo, Patti Austin, Al Jarreau, Philip Bailey, Lisa Fischer, and many more artists. Keshav Batish is tabla prodigy and percussionist, who from early age was immersed in an enriching environment of music. He is the grandson of S.D., and the son of Ashwin Batish. His father, Ashwin Batish a pioneer in World Music mixing Indian Ragas with western genres, noticed he enjoyed playing drums as a young child, and so he began to teach him to play the tabla at the age of 7. Keshav now also plays Sitar, Santoor, a host of different hand percussion instruments, and is a skilled percussionist on the Western drum kit. Meena Batish (Ashwin’s sister, daughter of S.D. Batish) is a singer an interpreter of music from the North Indian tradition. She has performed extensively, and released a CD compilation of Bhajans, or devotional songs, titled “My Favorite Bhajans”

Newsday 2012-10-21Greg Egan (born 20 August 1961) is an Australian science fiction author.
Egan published his first work in 1983. He specialises in hard science fiction stories with mathematical and quantum ontology themes, including the nature of consciousness. Other themes include genetics, simulated reality, posthumanism, mind uploading, sexuality, artificial intelligence, and the superiority of rational naturalism over religion. He is known for his tendency to deal with complex technical material, like inventive new physics and epistemology, in an unapologetically thorough manner. He is a Hugo Award winner (with eight other works shortlisted for the Hugos), and has also won the John W Campbell Memorial Award for Best Novel. His early stories feature strong elements of supernatural horror.
Egan's short stories have been published in a variety of genre magazines, including regular appearances in Interzone and Asimov's Science Fiction.
Egan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Western Australia, and currently lives in Perth. He has recently been active on the issue of refugees' mandatory detention in Australia. Egan is a vegetarian.
Neal Town Stephenson (born October 31, 1959) is an American writer known for his works of speculative fiction.
Difficult to categorize, his novels have been variously referred to as science fiction, historical fiction, cyberpunk, and postcyberpunk. Other labels such as 'baroque' often appear.
Stephenson explores areas such as mathematics, cryptography, philosophy, currency, and the history of science. He also writes non-fiction articles about technology in publications such as Wired.
He has worked part-time as an advisor for Blue Origin, a company (funded by Jeff Bezos) developing a manned sub-orbital launch system, and is also cofounder of Subutai Corporation, whose first offering is the interactive fiction project The Mongoliad. He has also written novels with his uncle, George Jewsbury ("J. Frederick George"), under the collective pseudonym Stephen Bury.
Born on October 31, 1959 in Fort Meade, Maryland, Stephenson came from a family of engineers and hard scientists; his father is a professor of electrical engineering whose father was a physics professor; his mother worked in a biochemistry laboratory, while her father was a biochemistry professor. Stephenson's family moved to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, in 1960 and then in 1966 to Ames, Iowa, where he graduated from Ames High School in 1977. Stephenson studied at Boston University, first specializing in physics, then switching to geography after he found that it would allow him to spend more time on the university mainframe. He graduated in 1981 with a B.A. in geography and a minor in physics. Since 1984, Stephenson has lived mostly in the Pacific Northwest and currently resides in Seattle with his family.
