Ever shaken an invisible hand? Been flattened by a falling market? Or wondered what took the bend out of Phillips' curve? David Mitchell helps reveal some of the great dilemmas faced by governments trying to run an economy - whether to save or spend, control inflation, regulate trade, fix exchange rates, or just leave everyone to get on with it and not intervene. You'll learn why Adam Smith put such a high price on free markets, how Keynes found a bold new way to reduce unemployment, and what economists went on to discover about the impact of policy on people's and businesses' behaviour - which may not always be entirely rational.

International Development Office, The Open University
The Open University has been committed to International Development for over twenty years. We are globally recognised for our teaching and pioneering research within the sector, and for driving innovation. Uniquely, The Open University also helps deliver development programmes in partnership with governments, NGOs, funding institutions and local partners. Our programmes across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia address areas such as frontline health, teacher education and English language teaching. We work where there is the greatest need: where our expertise can impact the many, rather than the few, and where our work helps create sustainable social and economic development.

My life as a filmmaker has blessed me with the privilege of seeing some of the most surreal and timeless places on the planet. These images of our Sacred Earth set to music are my way of sharing some of the magic I've experienced along the way...
"Terra Sacra" ~ Latin for Sacred Earth.
Terra Sacra Time Lapses is a short film featuring remote landscapes and ancient monuments from around the globe. These images were photographed during my assignments and personal travels between 2006-2012.
I've combined my favourite shots from these trips into non-narrative film that touches on a theme close to my heart: Sacred Earth.
The visuals are driven by an original score by composer Roy Milner (roymilner.com). The six-minute film is a journey through three distinct Acts: (I) Primordial Earth (II) Past meets Present and (III) Eternal Universe.
This film is a personal project to share the beauty and awe I witnessed at these locations. I hope viewers will be moved by the intangible power of our Terra Sacra.
THANKS TO:
Endless thanks to Art Wolfe for hiring me to as the cinematographer for the public television series Art Wolfe's Travels to the Edge and taking me to the ends of the Earth where most of the shots from Terra Sacra were made. Art, you are an inspiration and the most driven photographer I have ever known! I learned so much working on this show with our amazing crew and have stories to tell for a lifetime!

Never-ending thanks to friends and colleagues Ian Herring and Maija Leivo of Parallax Film Productions for permission to us shots I took for the television series Ancient Megastructures (National Geographic Channel / History Television) and Battle Castle (Discovery/History Television/ BBC). These assignments provided unprecedented access to some of the world's most iconic ancient landmarks
http://www.parallaxfilm.com
Infinite thanks to my amazing wife Deddeda for her love and constant encouragement to pursue this project.
TECHNICAL:
Most of the time lapses were shot with a Canon 5D at the maximum resolution using a TC-80N3 intervalometer. A few shots were taken with a Canon 7D and Canon 5D mk II.
All images are single manual exposures, no HDR composites.
Original full resolution images were colour corrected and processed in 16-bit in Adobe Bridge using Camera Raw and exported as JPEG sequences at maximum quality. The rendered JPEG sets were then opened in Quicktime Pro as image sequences and exported at their native full resolution (up to 5K) as Quicktime movies at 23.98 fps with the Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) codec. The ProRes 422 (HQ) files were then edited in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 on a ProRes 422 (HQ) timeline at 23.98. The master file is ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920 x 1080.
Selected time lapse sequences were also processed using Adobe Bridge and LRTimelapse to smoothen aperture flicker apparent in some shots with large depth-of-field.
LICENSING:
If you are interested in licensing any of the shots from the film, please contact me so I can direct you to the appropriate agency.
WHAT'S NEXT?
I would love to revisit many of the locations in this film and other powerful sacred sites around the world to create a feature-length "Terra Sacra". The film would combine real-time, slow-motion, and motion control time lapse imagery - all in stereoscopic 3D. If you are an angel investor, potential sponsor, broadcaster, distributor or someone deeply passionate who would would like to get involved, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you.

FITC Amsterdam 2012 Opening Titles
We started with the theme of personality in social media at first. After narrowing it down and let it match with FITC we took it into the direction of the creation process. We wanted the viewer to be sucked into the mind of a creative. Show his roller coaster of emotions in his process. We contacted creative writer Tifene Huchet to write the story. She shaped Sam, a man that dreamed about discovering the universe since he was a little boy and is driven by it till this day.
After creating a moving storyboard and treatment a lot of people became enthusiastic and joined us to fight the deadline (2 1/2 weeks from there on). With guys working from Sweden & Los Angeles, Skype was a real invention! We divided scenes, so everybody could do his own bit. With rendering and compositing done at our studio we could match the final look and created it as a whole. We aimed on creating a film noir look with its typical lighting and be very subtle with adding color.
Studio Takt did an amazing job (again!). He finished it in only 4 days. We're surprised how he achieved to glue all scenes together smoothly.
Thank you guys, we think it was a labour of love!

Ambassador Daniel Shapiro visited the award-winning main campus of the Open University in Raanana. The Ambassador toured Israel's largest university which offers over 45,000 students flexibility and accessibility to a unique opportunity to study at their own pace in a wide range of disciplines. Ambassador Shapiro toured the library and state-of-the art video studios and engaged in a vibrant discussion with students and faculty about U.S.-Israel relations and regional issues in a changing world. He answered questions from a live studio audience and from audiences at four remote Open University study centers, in Jerusalem, Haifa, Beersheva, and Ramat Aviv. Ambassador Shapiro visited the University's publishing house which produces over a million textbooks each year, the student-oriented call center, and Israel's largest post office located right on campus which mails tens of thousands of study kits to students every semester.

The Open University has some great psychology courses -- and unlike other universities you don't need any formal qualifications to study most of our undergraduate courses.
The Open University Psychological Society — our own unique course-related community — has over 1,700 members. And around 10,000 students enroll on our psychology courses every year. So why not get involved and join us?
