Jamhuri Day is a national holiday in Kenya, celebrated on 12 December each year.Jamhuri is the Swahili word for "republic" and the holiday is meant to officially mark the date of Kenya's establishment as a republic which happened on 12 December 1964. The country also gained full independence from the United Kingdom one year earlier on 12 December 1963, so Jamhuri Day is a double event and is generally regarded as Kenya's most important holiday, marked by numerous cultural festivities which celebrate the country's cultural heritage. On the first day Jomo Kenyatta, the first Kenyan president
Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta (/uhʊrʊ-keɪnjɑːtɑː/; born 26 October 1961) is the 4th and current President of Kenya, in office since 2013. He is the son of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first president, and his fourth wife Ngina Kenyatta.
Uhuru Kenyatta was elected president of Kenya under The National Alliance (TNA), which was part of the Jubilee Alliance with his running mate William Ruto's United Republican Party (URP). Uhuru and Ruto won 50.07% of votes cast, with closest rivals, Raila Odinga and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy garnering 42%. Raila disputed the election results at the Supreme Court which however held (7–0) that the elections were free and fair. Uhuru Kenyatta was therefore sworn in as President on 9 April 2013.
Kenyatta is the son of Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's founding father and first president (1964–1978). His family hails from the Kikuyu, a Bantu ethnic group. His given name "Uhuru" is from the Swahili term for "freedom", and was given to him in anticipation of Kenya's upcoming independence. Uhuru attended St Mary's School in Nairobi. Between 1979 and 1980, he also briefly worked as a teller at the Kenya Commercial Bank.

Celebrations marking the 46th Jamhuri day at the Nyayo National Stadium were not without the little side shows. There was pomp and colour as dignitaries arrived in style for the celebrations and Prime Minister Raila Odinga even took time to shake hands with one time ally now turned political foe, tourism minister Najib Balala who was strategically sitting next to his new found ally, Agriculture Minister William Ruto.
The trooping of the colour by a detachment of Kenya Navy was one of the highlight events of the Jamhuri day celebrations held at the Nyayo national stadium in Nairobi. The event which is little known among the public but revered among the military establishment is used to honour the achievements and contributions of the military formations with only the best among the best of the men and women in uniform who command immense respect being allowed to touch the flag.

You look like your high and lonesome
I believe ya wanna rollin' drummer
A'fore ya do somethin' smart
A let's go boogyin' in the dark
You got me you know
A honey don't cha let me go
Told you once before
You don't know how to go
Before you do somethin' smart
Let's go boogyin' in the dark
