The ferry, carrying mainly school students, was travelling from the port of Incheon, in the north-west, to the southern resort island of Jeju. A major rescue effort is under way, involving dozens of ships and helicopters. Those brought to safety were taken to a nearby island. Three people are now said to have died and at least 13 others have been hurt. South Korean officials had earlier said that 368 people had been plucked to safety, but later said there had been a counting error. They have now revised down the number rescued to 164. Images showed the ferry listing at a severe angle and then later almost completely submerged, with only a small part of its hull visible. It sank within two hours of sending a distress signal, reports said. Cause unclear Several coast guard, military and commercial vessels were involved in the rescue effort, which unfolded rapidly on Wednesday morning.- published: 16 Apr 2014

South Korea ferry disaster: father releases footage taken by dead son's mobile phone
Mobile phone footage taken by a 17-year-old boy who died in the South Korea ferry sinking and released by his father, reveals a heartbreaking look at the final moments of some of the 325 high school students aboard the vessel that sank on 16 April, leaving more than 300 people dead or missing. In the video, the students are seen huddled below deck, wondering if they'll make the news and discussing what they should do as the South Korea ferry sinks. The fear in the cabin quickly builds as the listing becomes worse. Some say they feel dizzy and sick. "Am I really going to die?" a student says at 0855 local time - the same time a crew member on the bridge made the first distress call. Students ask whether the ship will sink. Where their teachers are. "What's the captain doing?" Three times they are warned over the loudspeaker to stay where they are, even as the tilting increases and it becomes less possible for them to go anywhere else. The video was on the mobile phone of 17-year-old student Park Su-hyeon, when rescuers recovered his body. The boy's father, Park Jong-dae, provided it to the media, saying he wanted to show the world the ship's condition as it sank. The footage captures the last moments inside the vessel before the ship capsized. Of the 325 high school students aboard the vessel that sank on April 15, more than 300 people died or is still missing. In the video, the students start out laughing and joking with each other, not yet knowing the severity of the situation. They are seen huddled below deck, wondering if they'll make the news and discussing what they should do. However, concern grows as the listing becomes worse. In the video, a voice over the loudspeaker repeats a warning for passengers to stay where they are at least three times, even as the boat begins to tilt even more and it becomes improbable for the students to leave their cabins. The video was taken on the cell phone of 17-year-old student Park Su-hyeon, when rescuers recovered his body. The boy's father, Park Jong-dae, provided it to the media, saying he wanted to show the world the ship's condition as it sank. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. 'Mom, This Looks Like the End of Me': Doomed Vessel's Last Minutes Korean Ferry Students Captured Sinking on Video SEOUL, South Korea — As a ferry carrying 476 people was badly listing off the southwestern coast of South Korea two weeks ago, one of the students on board asked, "Are we becoming a Titanic?" "This is fun!" another shouted, not realizing that the ferry would soon capsize and sink. In videos recovered from the cellphones of passengers aboard the ferry Sewol, a voice can be heard over the ship's intercom urging students and their teachers to stay put, telling them they are safer where they are. But as the ship continued to tip and the voice over the intercom repeated the same instructions, panic spread. Some passengers apparently sensed the approaching doom, and sent farewells to their families. "This looks like the end," a boy shouted into a smartphone held by one of his classmates, Park Su-hyeon. Before he could finish, another boy cut in: "Mom, Dad, I love you." The young passengers were among 325 second-year high school students on board the 6,825-ton ferry, which sank on April 16. After Su-hyeon, 17, was found dead, the police returned the boy's recovered personal items to his family, who discovered the video on his phone. This week, his father, Park Jong-dae, released the video to the local news media, saying that South Koreans must watch it to learn what went wrong. As of Wednesday, 210 people were confirmed dead, with 92 still missing. Of the dead or missing, 250 were students on a school trip to a resort island. "This is by far the most heartbreaking scene I have seen in my 27-year broadcasting career," said Choi Seung-ho, a veteran television producer, when he introduced the footage on Newstapa, a website run by the Korea Center for Investigative Journalism. JTBC, a cable channel, also broadcast a shorter version of the video. The video was edited to blur the faces of the students, and the students whose voices were captured were not identified. Su-hyeon's video begins at 8:52 a.m. on April 16. That was three minutes before the ferry sent its first distress signal to maritime traffic controllers on shore. "The ship is leaning!" one passenger can be heard saying. "Help me!" another said, sounding almost as if it were part of a youthful prank. As students felt the ship shuddering and wondered whether it was sinking, a crew member came onto the intercom, urging students to stay put. "Nonsense," one student shouted. Another said: "I want to get off. I mean it." Though the vessel had tilted so much that some students were grabbing the railings on the wall to hang on, the video showed no sign of students trying to escape. At 8:53, a voice on the intercom again advised the passengers not to move. "What? Hurry! Save us!" a student shrieked. Another wondered, "Are we going to die?" A minute later, as the ship listed further, some students suggested donning life jackets. An announcement over the intercom again instructed passengers to stay where they were. At 8:55, while the ship's crew sent its first distress signal, one student in the cabin below shouted, "We don't want to die!" Over the intercom, the students were again urged not to move and to hold onto what they could. The ship's captain and crew members later told reporters and investigators that they had thought it was safer for the passengers to stay in their cabins than to move in a panicked mass, causing the ship to list faster, or for them to jump into cold waters when the rescue ships were still far away. Some of the male students appeared to hide their growing fear with jokes and uneasy laughs. One student said, "We are going to make news with this." Another said, "This is going to be a lot of fun if we get it onto our Facebook." At 8:57, as another announcement from the crew advised "please never move," one student said: "Should I call Mom? Mom, this looks like the end of me." After a two-and-a-half-minute break, the video resumed at 9:00, when students began passing one another life jackets and one wanted to have a picture taken as a "souvenir." Some students complained that the zippers of their life jackets did not work and one student gave his life jacket to a classmate who could not find one. "What about you?" the classmate asked. Mijn palet van Kampen
This video of the city Kampen is a combination of paintings and real images Ferrie made the soundtrack and Ben made the video and montage. I used the idea of an earlier video of mine 'Aquarel'. https://vimeo.com/18000543. I used paintings I made from Kampen and made videos on the same spots. I used the paintings as an overlay. Hope you enjoy the images of my beautiful city Kampen. You see the windmill 'd'olde Zwarver' and the church 'de Bovenkerk' in this video.
The video is also on:
http://dailym.net/2012/06/mijn-palet-van-kampen-my-palette-kampen-ben-vimeo/

Latest on Sewol-ho ferry accident
Latest on Sewol-ho ferry accident
It's been almost two weeks now since the tragic Sewol-ho ferry disaster put the nation in a state of shock and sorrow. The number of confirmed deaths currently stands at one hundred-eighty-eight, while one hundred-fourteen others, mostly high school students, remain missing and are presumed dead. For the latest, we go over to our Kwon Soa, who is standing by at the news center. Soa, not much progress to speak of with regard to the search in recent days. That's right, Connyoung. Rescue crews have had a hard time with the harsh weather conditions. Since yesterday,... just one body has been recovered. A strong wind advisory in the area was lifted earlier in the morning, but the tides are what's causing trouble... since the underwater currents are much stronger that can be seen above the water. The visibility is also changing on a nearly hourly basis due to the foggy conditions. That's been prompting officials to suspend searches at various times throughout the day. When divers are in the water, they are mainly focusing on the fourth floor of the ferry, where most of the remaining missing are thought to be. So far, around one third of the 111 cabins have been searched. Earlier in the day, a video was released by authorities that shows the first moments of the rescue situation. What did we learn? Yes, Connyoung... that video is very crucial in determining how the first minutes of rescue efforts were carried out, but also in proving how the captain and the rest of the crew were among the first who fled the ship. The center of attention of the nearly 10 minutes of footage taken by a member of the rescue team, is the period between 9:43 a.m. and 9:49 a.m. It shows the captain of the Sewol-ho ferry Lee Joon-seok and his crew fleeing without attending to passengers. The captain was not wearing his uniform or pants as he was leaving the vessel with the help of the coast guard... meaning the rescuers had no chance to distinguish him as being the captain. By 9:35 a.m. all 15 crew members had begun fleeing the ship,... but as the video shows, hardly any passengers could be seen on the deck of the ferry... which is raising criticism that the crew did not order to them to leave the ship. The prosecution's special investigative team that is probing the ferry sinking raided the Mokpo Coast Guard Station this morning. What were they looking for? Prosecutors and police investigating the case suspect officers there neglected their duties in the early stages of the rescue. The Mokpo Coast Guard has been accused of wasting precious minutes by asking a student who made the first emergency call from the ferry... whether he knew the coordinates of the vessel's location. The prosecutors are also planning to expand their investigation into whether the ferry had malfunctioning life boats and life jackets on board, ... all of which were made 20 years ago. The investigators believe the products may have been used ever since they were manufactured in May of 1994. This comes as earlier today,... two lifeboats were found floating near the accident site... meaning they began to work much later than they should have. Normally, a life boat would deploy automatically when receiving external pressure. Investigations into the ferry operator's practical owner, Yoo Byung-eon are also continuing. Prosecutors and the police raided four locations this morning, looking for evidence of paper companies.- published: 28 Apr 2014
