George Joshua Richard Monbiot (born 27 January 1963) is an English writer, known for his environmental and political activism. He lives in Machynlleth, Wales, writes a weekly column for The Guardian, and is the author of a number of books, including Captive State: The Corporate Takeover of Britain (2000) and Bring on the Apocalypse: Six Arguments for Global Justice (2008). He is the founder of The Land is Ours campaign, which campaigns peacefully for the right of access to the countryside and its resources in the United Kingdom. In January 2010, Monbiot founded the ArrestBlair.org website which offers a reward to people attempting a peaceful citizen’s arrest of former British prime minister Tony Blair for alleged crimes against peace.

George Monbiot grew up in Henley-on-Thames in South Oxfordshire, England, in a house next to Peppard Common. Politics was at the heart of family life—his father, Raymond Geoffrey Monbiot, is a businessman who headed the Conservative Party's trade and industry forum, while his mother, Rosalie—the elder daughter of Conservative MP Roger Gresham Cooke—was a Conservative councillor who led South Oxford district council for a decade. His uncle, Canon Hereward Cooke, was the Liberal Democrat deputy leader of Norwich City Council between 2002 and 2006. Monbiot was educated at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, an independent school, and won an Open Scholarship to Brasenose College, Oxford.

David James Bellamy OBE (born 18 January 1933) is a British author, broadcaster, environmental campaigner and botanist. He has lived in County Durham since 1960.

Bellamy attended Chatsworth Road Primary School Cheam, Cheam Road Junior School and Sutton County Grammar School, where he initially showed an aptitude for English Literature and History. He then found his vocation due to an inspirational science teacher, studying Zoology, Botany, Physics and Chemistry in the sixth form. After he left school he worked in a laboratory at a technical college in Ewell, before he won a place at Durham University.

He first came to public prominence as an environmental consultant at the time of the 1967 Torrey Canyon disaster; he published Effects of Pollution from the Torrey Canyon on Littoral and Sublittoral Ecosystems in Nature [1]. He has written and presented some 400 television programmes on botany, ecology, and environmental issues. Bellamy is the originator, along with David Shreeve and the Conservation Foundation (which he also founded), of the Ford European Conservation Awards and has published scientific papers (between 1966 and 1986) and many books.

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (born 19 June 1964) is an American-born British Conservative Party politician and journalist, who has been the elected Mayor of London since 2008. He was previously the Member of Parliament for Henley and editor of The Spectator magazine.

Johnson was educated at Primrose Hill Primary School, the European School of Brussels, Ashdown House School, Eton College, and Balliol College, Oxford, where he read Literae Humaniores. He began his career in journalism with The Times, and later moved on to The Daily Telegraph where he became assistant editor. He was appointed editor of The Spectator in 1999. In the 2001 general election he was elected to the House of Commons and became one of the most conspicuous politicians in the country. He has also written several books.

Under Michael Howard, Johnson briefly served on the Conservative front bench as the Shadow Minister for the Arts from April 2004 until November 2004. When David Cameron was elected leader of the Conservative Party in 2005, Johnson was re-appointed to the front bench as Shadow Minister for Higher Education and resigned as editor of The Spectator.

Ian Rutherford Plimer (born 12 February 1946) is an Australian geologist, academic, professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide, and a director of four mining companies. He has been a staunch critic of creationism in Australia but it is his critique of global warming science that has brought him international recognition. Plimer believes that climate scientists ignore the science of geology, its theories and history of the natural world, exaggerate modern warming levels compared to previous temperatures in the geological record, conflate carbon dioxide's impact on climate, as well as humanity's contribution to carbon dioxide levels.

Plimer is the author of around 60 academic papers and six books, including his book on the global warming debate, Heaven and Earth — Global Warming: The Missing Science (2009).

Plimer grew up in Sydney. He was educated at Gordon Public School and Normanhurst Boys' High School. He earned a BSc at the University of New South Wales, and a PhD at Macquarie University.

Dr Fatih Birol (1958 Ankara, Turkey) is the Chief Economist of the International Energy Agency and Director, Office of The Chief Economist, with overall responsibility for the organisation's economic analysis of energy and climate change policy. He oversees the annual World Energy Outlook series which is the flagship publication of the IEA and is recognized as an authoritative source for energy analysis and projections.

He is also responsible for the IEA Energy Business Council which provides policymakers with a business perspective on energy market issues.

Throughout his career, Dr. Birol has been decorated with numerous awards in recognition of his contribution to the energy debate. He was recently named by Forbes Magazine as the world's fourth most powerful person in terms of influence on the world's energy scene.

In 2009, alongside awards from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Polish Ministry of Economy, Dr. Birol was honoured with the Officers Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse des Verdienstordens der Bundesrepublik Deutschland). He was awarded the Golden Honour Medal of the Austrian Republic in 2007 and was made a Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Government in 2006. He received the annual award of the International Association of Energy Economics for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Profession' in 2005. These followed awards from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2004 and the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2002.
