An Afternoon at the Beach - CN and CEMR Trains at Beach Junction
Located at milepost 248.5 of CN's
Redditt Subdivision, Beach
Junction is a prominent control
point along the transcontinental mainline. The junction links two primary CN lines as well as a
CEMR (
Central Manitoba Railway) branchline together via a double-track, high-speed wye.
Beach Junction also allows CN and CEMR trains, travelling in both directions, to access
Symington Yard. Symington is CN's largest yard in the region, and is an important classification and
Intermodal yard on the CN network.
Sit back, relax and watch as several CN trains enter/exit Symington Yard via Beach Jct. A CEMR train was even spotted passing through the junction, heading north towards their yard and engine facility.
Train Information:
Train
1 (0:01): CN
2290 (
ES44DC) and CN
2033 (C40-8) slow as their train rocks through the switch points. CN
2314 (ES44DC), working as a rear
DPU, shoves the train into Symington.
Train 2 (6:17): CN 8855 (
SD70M-2) is the lone leader on this long
Intermodal train. This train is also slowing for the crossovers into Symington. Another SD70M-2 (CN 8876) brings up the rear.
Train 3 (12:16): CEMR GP9RM 4001 is leading CEMR
SD40-2 5396 and a short string of covered hoppers towards the CEMR
Pine Falls Sub.
Train 4 (15:30): A quartet of big locomotives (CN 2620 (
C44-9W), IC 1026 (
SD70), CN 5740 (SD75I) and CN
2192 (
C40-8W)) lead a long manifest freight slowly west along the Redditt Sub. Bringing up the rear is a Distributed Braking
Boxcar, which are used in cold weather to maintain air pressure in the hoses.
