This is a time-lapse video showing the route from Ubin Town (near Main Jetty) to Punai Hut (near Chek Jawa). The van travelled along Jalan Ubin, Jalan Sam Heng and made a right turn at Beberek Hut, passing by Balai Quarry before reaching Punai Hut. The usual way to Punai Hut is to travel via Jalan Durian. This path was not taken as there was a fallen tree on the road during the time of filming.

19 September 2012 Chek Jawa wild boar: Thousands of peaceful interactions An elderly woman fell and broke her hip after a wild boar at Chek Jawa went for a bag of food she was carrying, reported the Straits Times today. But thousands of visitors have had close and safe interaction with wild boar at Chek Jawa for many months. Sadly, such happier events do not make the news and were not mentioned in the article.So here's highlights of some of the many peaceful encounters I've had with the wild boar at Chek Jawa over the years.The Singapore Wild Boar Chronicles facebook page set up by Ong Say Lin is for everyone to share interesting encounters with a Singapore wild boar. Here, you can see many instances of peaceful experiences with this fascinating wild animal.I do hope that the response to this incident will not harm the wild boar family at Chek Jawa. Sadly, in negative interaction between people and wildlife, it is often the wildlife who pay the price. We are in danger of loving Chek Jawa to death. Tanjong Chek Jawa (or Tanjung Chek Jawa or simply Chek Jawa; Chinese: 仄爪哇) is a cape and the name of its 100-hectare wetlands located on the south-eastern tip of Pulau Ubin, an island off the north-eastern coast of the main island of Singapore. Chek Jawa is among the last few places left with a natural rocky shore.
The wetlands are unique as several ecosystems can be observed in one area — sandy beach, rocky beach, seagrass lagoon, coral rubble, mangroves and coastal forest.
In December 2001, the government called off reclamation plans of the Chek Jawa area after a biodiversity survey conducted by conservationist volunteers. State use of the land will be deferred for the next 10 years. However, Chek Jawa may still be re-used by the government in and after 2012.
Previously a virtual unknown, Chek Jawa came into national prominence and focus only since the early 2000s when the area's rich biodiversity was discovered almost by chance during a nature outing at low tide. News on the impending land reclamation works planned by the government on the area sparked a rare show of public-led and coordinated effort to reverse the reclamation plans. A group of volunteers, headed by botanist Joseph Lai (who first discovered Chek Jawa's rich ecosystems in December 2000), conducted a biodiversity survey months before the area was to be reclaimed in 2001. This survey was captured on the documentary Remember Chek Jawa by Eric Lin Youwei. The volunteers then submitted a report and petitioned to the government for the preservation of the natural habitat.
