The BBC News at Ten (also known as the BBC Ten O'Clock News or more commonly, the Ten O'Clock News) is the flagship evening news programme for British television channel BBC One and the BBC News channel. It is presented by Huw Edwards, and deputised by Fiona Bruce. It is the final comprehensive news programme of the day on BBC One. The programme was controversially moved from 21:00 on 16 October 2000.

It is broadcast Monday to Sunday from 22:00 until 22:30 and features twenty-five minutes of British national and international news, with an emphasis on the latter. It incorporates five minutes of news from the BBC regions around the country at around 22:25. Over the three months since its revival ITV News at Ten has averaged 2.2 million viewers compared with an average of 4.8 million viewers watching the BBC bulletin over the same period.

The BBC News at Ten is currently the most watched news programme in Britain, averaging 4.9 million viewers each night.

The programme was launched on 16 October 2000, replacing the former BBC Nine O'Clock News, which had been on the air since 14 September 1970. Its launch presenters were Michael Buerk and Peter Sissons.

The department is the world's largest broadcast news organisation and generates about 120 hours of radio and television output each day, as well as online news coverage. The service maintains 44 foreign news bureaux and has correspondents in almost all of the world's 240 countries. Since 2004, the Director of BBC News has been Helen Boaden.

Wendy Piatt (born 17 November 1970) is the Director General of The Russell Group of UK universities from January 2007.

Piatt was born on the Wirral, and went to convent school in Birkenhead.

She was awarded a first class honours BA in English from King's College London before studying for an MPhil in Shakespeare and Renaissance drama and then a doctorate in 16th and 17th century political philosophy at Lincoln College, Oxford.

Piatt went on to work for the left-of-centre think-tank, the Institute for Public Policy Research before joining the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, where she rose to the post of Deputy Director.

In January 2007, she was appointed Director General of The Russell Group. Dr Piatt leads the Group’s policy development and strategic direction to help ensure the UK’s major research-intensive universities maintain and enhance their worldwide reputation for excellence in research, teaching and knowledge transfer.

David William Donald Cameron (pronunciation: /ˈkæmərən/; born 9 October 1966) is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, First Lord of the Treasury, Minister for the Civil Service and Leader of the Conservative Party. He represents Witney as its Member of Parliament (MP).

Cameron studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford, gaining a first class honours degree. He then joined the Conservative Research Department and became Special Adviser to Norman Lamont, and then to Michael Howard. He was Director of Corporate Affairs at Carlton Communications for seven years.

He was defeated in his first candidacy for Parliament at Stafford in 1997, but was elected in 2001 as the Member of Parliament for the Oxfordshire constituency of Witney. He was promoted to the Opposition front bench two years later, and rose rapidly to become head of policy co-ordination during the 2005 general election campaign. With a public image of a youthful, moderate candidate who would appeal to young voters, he won the Conservative leadership election in 2005.
