Director's Introduction:
This video has been originally made for Moby's genero.tv "Wait for me" contest (april 2010). Therefore the use of the Moby song is fully authorized and legal. I hope that it catches the mood of this beautiful Moby song enough so that you can enter the trip and enjoy the ride, whether you're trying to understand the characters or just digging the pictures moving with the pace of this music, which would already be more than enough for me! Everything was made voluntary and self produced. Take care and thanks for watching!
Intentions + Short description:
While traveling and assembling ideas listening to this song of Moby, the idea to use the myth of Orpheus came to me inspired by the lyrics and the melancholic tone of the song. "Wait for me", "I'm gonna ask you to look away" etc can be quite reminiscent of this ancient myth and it's tragic ending (Orpheus seduced the gods so that he could bring back his wife from the dead, but he couldn't turn back to check if she was following him before they arrived on earth, otherwise he would lose her a second time. Eventually he couldn't resist and ... ) I liked the idea to use a theme that corresponded to the song but that at the same time wasn't directly connected to it, and that it allowed us to use many different places where we could capture interesting and different pictures that would end up mixed together, building something also visually intriguing. The editing in the video includes simultaneously both the past of the lovers (mainly through idealized visions of the man, suddenly interrupted by the unhappy girl's reality) and the quest of the man - compared to Orpheus - to bring his girl back to his real life through strange and deserted places. I wanted to maintain the doubt about the origin of this loss for him: was it like in the myth and was she dead or was it just a lovers breakup that he couldn't stand and so lives in his fantasy world, dreaming of taking her back and losing her again and again.

After the two families' meet, Farid has a sudden change of heart when he notices that the Chief Inspector detests his family, and it slowly dawns on him that he and his girlfriend are quite different, and he cannot be part of a culture that relies solely on filth, porn, is soaked in sex, along with a mix of Caucasian (white) and Jewish propaganda against Islam. He starts reciting the Holy Quran, and asks permission from his dad to invite some religious leaders from Pakistan, after receiving consent, they do arrive to live in Parvez's home. It is here that Parvez will find that Farid has broken off the forthcoming engagement with Ms. Fingerhut, and has become a born again Muslim. His wife, Minoo, has taken to wearing the Hizaab, remains in the kitchen all day, and is not even permitted to sup or dine with her family, while Parvez finds that he cannot even sleep in his bedroom. Things start to heat up when Farid finds out that his dad has been patronizing a prostitute by the name of Beltina, whose real name is Sandra, and he also notes that his dad is her pimp. Then he and his colleagues set about to cleanse this town of its prostitutes - leading to a confrontation between him and his dad - a confrontation that may well split this family forever.

This video has been originally made for Moby's genero.tv "Wait for me" contest (april 2010). Therefore the use of the Moby song is fully authorized and legal. I hope that it catches the mood of this beautiful Moby song enough so that you can enter the trip and enjoy the ride, whether you're trying to understand the characters or just digging the pictures moving with the pace of this music, which would already be more than enough for me! Everything was made voluntary and self produced. Take care and thanks for watching!
Intentions + Short description:
While traveling and assembling ideas listening to this song of Moby, the idea to use the myth of Orpheus came to me inspired by the lyrics and the melancholic tone of the song. "Wait for me", "I'm gonna ask you to look away" etc can be quite reminiscent of this ancient myth and it's tragic ending (Orpheus seduced the gods so that he could bring back his wife from the dead, but he couldn't turn back to check if she was following him before they arrived on earth, otherwise he would lose her a second time. Eventually he couldn't resist and ... ) I liked the idea to use a theme that corresponded to the song but that at the same time wasn't directly connected to it, and that it allowed us to use many different places where we could capture interesting and different pictures that would end up mixed together, building something also visually intriguing. The editing in the video includes simultaneously both the past of the lovers (mainly through idealized visions of the man, suddenly interrupted by the unhappy girl's reality) and the quest of the man - compared to Orpheus - to bring his girl back to his real life through strange and deserted places. I wanted to maintain the doubt about the origin of this loss for him: was it like in the myth and was she dead or was it just a lovers breakup that he couldn't stand and so lives in his fantasy world, dreaming of taking her back and losing her again and again.

Branko Miliskovic was performing his new long duration live performance on the 29th and the 30th of April 2011, in the Les Halles de Schaerbeek theatre in Brussels, Belgium. It was a premiere of his new work, entitled ASSOLUTO/ THE ABSOLUTE specially commissioned for TROUBLE #7 festival of live art. This performance was performed in two large images. The first image entitled ‘’The Speech’’ was showing the body of Miliskovic as a ruler who is announcing the greatest offensive of the battle which will never happen. In the second image entitled ‘’The Day of Defiance’’ , Miliskovic took the defensive body, surrounded by four big red flags, pledging , waving , saluting and waiting for the song of Sacred War, facing his debacles and eventual triumph.
