Inflation target 5%, don't want rupee back at 45 level: RBI Governor to NDTV
In an exclusive interview to Prannoy Roy, Dr Raghuram Rajan says that RBI aims to bring down inflation to a level at which an ordinary person doesn't have to worry about every day. He said while RBI cannot control onion prices, some tough measures are needed to tackle inflation as it has spreads beyond food to services like healthcare, education and housing. Raghuram Rajan also told NDTV that he is not uncomfortable with current levels of 61-62 of the rupee, but insisted that he doesn't want the rupee to go back to 45 to the dollar levels. His message for the industry is to bear with central bank's decision to raise rates till inflation cools down. Hike in LPG cap a misdirected subsidy: RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan
Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has questioned the decision to raise the cap of subsidised LPG cylinders from 9 to 12 per annum, calling it a 'misdirected subsidy'. Speaking to Karan Thapar on Devil's Advocate, Rajan said, "What one should be careful about is expanding the misdirected subsidies in the system.
