He advocated the doctrine of equality amongst men. He preached "The Bhagavat Gita" in Marathi so that it may be understood by all common people. Sant Dnyaneshwar lived at Alandi, near Pune from 1275 to 1296. In those daye, life was divided into four distinct phases called Ashramas. The first phase was dedicated to Education. The second was the period of the family life (Grahasthashram). Thereafter came Sanyasashram when a man left his family and lived in the forest pursuing meditation and holiness. Vithalpant, a Brahmin from Alandi adopted Sanyasashram without consulting his wife. When his Guru found this out, he ordered Vithalpant to return to his family. This return to family was considered by orthodox Brahmins, to be an insult to both the Ashramas. He was therefore, treated as an outcast. Thereafter Vithalpant had three sons Nivrutti, Dnyandev, Sopan and a daughter Mukta. The entire family had to suffer much humilitation at the hands of orthodox society Its the first film to be comercially exhibited in America. Trick photography is the highlight of this film of its time in 1939.
