Southern Television '21 years' 28.12.1979
Southern Television looks back at the history of the station which by then was in it's 21st year of broadcasting. Although the actual anniversary would have occurred on 30/8/1979, celebrations were no doubt delayed due to the ITV strike at this time in 1979. This recording which was split across the evening,(and has been compiled from more than one source) commences with Brian Nissen on continuity with a special 21st background announcing the programme will be transmitted after the ITN News at 5.45pm of which there is a short clip. According to the evening schedules, 'Southern News' followed at 6pm, Chris Robbie, who has taken over from Brian Nissen on continuity, announces the start of the programme at 6.10pm, and at the end of Part 1 announces that Part 2 will follow later that evening after the ITN News finishes at 10.30pm. (Chris Robbie's continuity clips were taken many years ago from a download captured by Video camera)

Southern Television's Start Up from the Late 1960's
Southern's 'Start Up' from the 405 line era with Picasso & film. The ident used by Southern at the end is one their final Black & White versions which indicates that this is from around 1968/1969. This is a pre recorded Start Up & the audio of 'Southern Raphsody' had no station & transmitter announcement so I have taken the opportunity to replace the audio with an earlier 'off air' sound recording from around the mid 1960's with Brian Nissen announcing that it is 'Southern Independent Television' with transmissions from Chillerton Down & Dover

Southern TV Houseparty (1)
A most tedious program from Southern TV with women nattering about nothing. This is a great episode with Anne Ladbury having a bit of a poke at her friend, the late Cherry Marshall. Cherry had been a model in the 1950's and Anne had her own show on dressmaking.. methinks i know too much already! Anne demonstrates something to do with a parsnip, Cherry can't find the oven, and Marshie sounds so much better, her voice is stronger and she goes out for walks.. but look out, theres a thunder storm on the horizon and Marshie has had a pace maker fitted!! (Marshie was Sylvia Marshall, a very much larger than life character... )

southern television last moments
The last few moments in the life of southern television uk from 1981. Those faces that were smiling went on to help front southern's replacement TVS the following day. Though I have never lived in this region (brummie through and through) I think they made some great childrens programming including worzel gummidge and runaround. I also love tv nostalgia thats why I posted this. Enjoy!
