KCPT: Kansas City Week in Review - May 25, 2012
DECISION MAKERS REPLACE REPORTERS IN THIS KCWIR SPECIAL: The Bi-State Business Border Battle erupts again with the biggest prize up for grabs yet. Why won't Kansas and Missouri call a truce? We talk to legislators about it. Plus, one of the biggest income tax cuts in Kansas history is signed. But what does it mean to you? Missouri lawmakers end what The Star editorial board calls the most "desultory and destructive session" in years. And after all the talk, nothing is done to fix the Kansas City, MO School District. This week we push aside our regular reporters to bring you pithy and insightful state lawmakers on both sides of state line to comment on the news instead. After all every one of our stories this week involve state government. Why wouldn't we ask the people who are making the decisions on your behalf? And in fact, they've all promised to be even more witty and enlightening than the reporters we normally have around the KCWIR table... Imagine KC: Episode 10 - Transit-Oriented Development
As Kansas City prepares for a special election on a proposed downtown streetcar line, Imagine KC examines the impact of transit-oriented development (TOD) on our metro. In this edition of the show, KCPT's Randy Mason and Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Chris Leinberger tour the streetscape along the line, with an eye to the commerce and development that proponents predict will follow. Afterward, the two head back into the KCPT studios, joined by developer and Downtown Council member Jon Copaken and Raytown Mayor David Bower to discuss more about the long‐range benefits of TOD, and its implications for surrounding cities and suburbs. This yearlong series is produced by Angee Simmons, KCPT along with Mid-America Regional Council. Imagine KC is funded by: American Society of Civil Engineers, Garney Family Foundation Fund, Hall Family Foundation, Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Kansas City Chapter of the AIA, William T. Kemper Foundation, Lafarge North America, ULI Kansas City, US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and WNET--Blueprint America. Charlotte Street Foundation on Uniquely Kansas City - KCPT
Kansas City Public Television (KCPT), featured the Charlotte Street Foundation (CSF) on it's quarterly televised arts magazine, providing a comprehensive outline of CSF's history and initiatives, including the Urban Culture Project and the CSF Awards to Visual Artists. Featured are interviews by Founder/Director David Hughes, Jr.; Associate Director Kate Hackman; and Visiting Critic/Curator for the Visual Art Awards, Gregory Volk of Virginia Commonwealth University. Founded in 1997 as a fund of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and incorporated in 2004 as a 501c3 non-profit organization, Charlotte Street Foundation (CSF) supports and recognizes outstanding artists in Greater Kansas City; presents, promotes, enhances, and encourages the visual, performing, and interdisciplinary arts; and fosters economic development in the urban core of Kansas City, MO. In all endeavors, CSF places artists at the center of its mission and has built an infrastructure that depends on and reflects their involvement. As a result, CSF is an organization that continually evolves in response to artist input and in relation to the city's larger cultural ecosystem. The name of the Fund is derived from a long—standing group of artists who gather for food, fun and friendship in midtown Kansas City.
