Tamaulipas ( tamauˈlipas ), officially Free and Sovereign State of Tamaulipas (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Tamaulipas), is one of the 31 states which, with the Federal District, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided in 43 municipalities and its capital city is Ciudad Victoria. The capital city was named after Guadalupe Victoria, the first President of Mexico.
It is located in Northeastern Mexico. It is bordered by the states of Veracruz to the southeast, San Luis Potosí to the southwest and Nuevo León to the west. To the north, it has a 370 km (142.9 mi) stretch of the U.S.–Mexico border along the state of Texas.
The name Tamaulipas is derived from Tamaholipa, a Huastec term in which the tam- prefix signifies "place (where)". There is no scholarly agreement on the meaning of holipa, but "high hills" is a common interpretation. Another explanation of the state name is that it is derived from Ta ma ho'lipam ("place where the Lipan prey").
In addition to the capital city, Ciudad Victoria, the state's largest cities include Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, and Tampico.

Steeped in myth and legend, these ancient springs have been a gathering place and source of healing for hundreds, even thousands of years. The use of the waters can be traced back to the earliest human settlements in the region. See revised video at http://youtu.be/VdtiEVdBnlE The Nuevo Progreso Mexico Tourist Day (Winter Texan Appreciation) is held during the spring equinox on 21 March each year. Winter Texans from Victoria Palms RV Resort in Donna Texas attended the event and had a Fun time. The weather was just right and not too hot. There were so many overlapping sound systems down the street that I decided to use a creative commons sound track of my own choosing called Endorphin by The Easton Ellises (Canadian Band) http://youtu.be/WLdG9RXxLWw . It takes a bit of time to synchronize video and audio but if you listen to the words they fit appropriately. No Rabbits were harmed in the making of this video (private joke for Alannah). The shoe shine was my tribute to the hard working and friendly Mexicans who stru...

Highway Robbery in Mexico What an actual Mexico Highway robbery looks like! Just like any highway in world, Mexican highways can be dangerous. I do not want to underplay the dangers of driving in Mexico, but over the past three years, I have read of numerous murders and robberies on the highways of United States and even Canada. It happens in Mexico as well, so be aware. This week two missionaries, Phil and Marianne Chain, driving a Camper Truck crossed the border at Reynosa, a route they had taken many times before without incident. 43 kilometers down the highway they stopped for gas at a Pemex where they noticed two men in a marroon truck. When they pulled out the truck was following them. "They stopped him at gunpoint, and asked for 6000 pesos. He showed them his wallet and said he...
