Turkish Government Official Accused of Kicking Man at Mine Protest
Turkish media, backed by thousands of Turks on Twitter, are asking whether an assistant to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan kicked a protester at the site of the deadly mine accident in Soma, Turkey.Their evidence: A photo that shows a man who resembles Erdogan\'s assistant, Yusuf Yerkel, and appears to be kicking a protester wrestling off two military members.

It\'s not been confirmed whether or not the man is indeed Yerkel — or if he\'s intentionally kicking the fallen protester.Still, the photo has been shared thousands of times, by hundreds of users, according to Topsy, as people try and identify the man — and confirm he was indeed kicking the protester.A slow-motion video of the fateful moment was posted on DailyMotion for users to analyze the man\'s motions \

'President Barack Obama 9/11' Obama 911 Memorial Museum Speech Obama speech New York Memorial Museum Opening Obama at New York 9/11 museum ceremony. Emotional Remarks. (BBC) President Barack Obama has joined September 11 survivors and rescuers at the dedication of a memorial museum on the site of the attacks in New York. The National September 11 Memorial Museum includes thousands of personal items and parts of the World Trade Center towers themselves. The museum will be fully open to the public on 21 May. Almost 3,000 people died on 11 September 2001 after al-Qaeda hijackers flew aeroplanes into the towers. Another hijacked plane hit the Pentagon. A fourth crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought with the hijackers. 'Dread' President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama toured the museum, viewing a memorial wall with photos of victims and a mangled fire truck, before the ceremony began at 1000 EST (1500 BST). Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton joined them. In his opening remarks at the ceremony, Mr Bloomberg said the museum was "a reminder to us and all future generations that freedom carries heavy responsibilities". President Obama said the museum means we can all "look into the faces of nearly 3,000 innocent souls". "We can touch their names and hear their voices, glimpse the small items that speak to the beauty of their lives - the wedding rings, a duty helmet, a shining badge," he told those gathered. As well as rescuers, survivors and relatives of people who lost their lives, there was in attendance the New York mayor at the time of the attacks, Rudy Giuliani, the present mayor, Bill de Blasio and actor Robert De Niro. Along with the nearby memorial plaza, the New York city museum cost $700m (£418m) in donations and public money. The museum, not far from the original site of the World Trade Center, is largely underground. The museum features dramatic and horrific moments of the day in videos, including the two skyscrapers collapsing, but also symbols of heroism, such as damaged fire trucks and the wristwatch of one of the passengers who confronted the hijackers. "You won't walk out of this museum without a feeling that you understand humanity in a deeper way," said museum President Joe Daniels. Charles Wolf, who lost his wife Katherine in the attacks, said he was awaiting the ceremonial opening on Thursday with a mix of anticipation and dread. "It brings everything up," he said. The museum is not without controversy. Some relatives of victims are upset that unidentified humans remains found in the rubble will be on display in the museum. Some Muslim groups have also said a video describing al-Qaeda and the run-up to the attacks does not differentiate enough between the violent hijackers motivated by a radical vision of Islam and regular Muslims. full video address statement speech remarks full video address statement speech remarks full video address statement speech remarks full video address statement speech remarks full video address statement speech remarks full video address statement speech remarks full video address statement speech remarks President Obama Emotional Speech at National 9/11 Memorial Museum | FULLPresident Obama Emotional Speech at National 9/11 Memorial Museum | FULLPresident Obama Emotional Speech at National 9/11 Memorial Museum | FULLPresident Obama Emotional Speech at National 9/11 Memorial Museum | FULL

Dramatic Wildfire Video: "Oh my God!" California resident Kristin Michalec said on a video she shared with CNN as she drove through raging flames in Carlsbad, near where she lives. San Diego County declares fire emergency Fire has burned more than 1,500 acres, authorities say CARLSBAD, California (CNN) —Southern California firefighters fought wildfires on at least three fronts Wednesday when two more blazes erupted in Carlsbad and nearby Camp Pendleton, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents, businesses, a school and parts of a Marines installation. San Diego County proclaimed a local emergency Wednesday afternoon due to "at least five wildland fires burning," the county said. At least 20 structures were destroyed. The emergency allows the county to more easily access state and federal resources. Statewide drought, devil winds, low humidity and 90-degree-plus temperatures conspired to triple the number of wildfires Wednesday, which began with 350 firefighters fighting a 1,500-acre wildfire in San Diego. But by noon, a second fire erupted 20 miles away in Carlsbad, burning 100 acres and prompting evacuations of thousands of people and a resort. Then, a third ignited on Camp Pendleton, a training base, where a 150-acre fire led to evacuations of the military's O'Neill Heights Housing, the De Luz Child Development Center and Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary School, the Marines said. "Oh my God!" California resident Kristin Michalec said on a video she shared with CNN as she drove through raging flames in Carlsbad, near where she lives. "It was so hard to see because of the thick smoke," she later told CNN in an interview. San Diego fire officials were trying to spare some of their crews to assist Carlsbad, where a 100-acre wildfire prompted a mandatory evacuation. "We're trying to free resources to send to Carlsbad, which also has a serious fire going on and is just across the freeway," said San Diego Fire Department spokesman Lee Swanson. "Humidity is 3 to 4%, and it's about 100 degrees," he added. Carlsbad officials said Wednesday afternoon that "mandatory evacuations are in progress" in that city's so-called Poinsettia Fire. San Diego County said more than 11,000 residents, businesses and cell phones in Carlsbad were notified to evacuate, but an exact number wasn't immediately available, the county said on Twitter. That fire also prompted the evacuation of amusement park rides at Legoland in Carlsbad, the resort said on its Facebook page. Firefighters were igniting backfires in hills as a preventive measure against the wildfire and any possible advances on a residential neighborhood. "This is extreme. This has gone from dry conditions to volatile conditions," said a Carlsbad firefighter after using a torch to ignite backfire. wild brush. "This isn't something we don't normally see until November or September." Back at the San Diego fire, authorities were concerned that hot, dry gusts called Santa Ana winds would set back their efforts since Tuesday morning to contain the wildfire, which improved overnight to 25% from 5%, said Cal Fire incident commander Ray Chaney. The fire has burned 1,584 acres and prompted an evacuation Tuesday of 5,000 homes in San Diego and selected areas, authorities said. By Tuesday night, those residents had an "orderly return" to their homes, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said. As of Wednesday morning, no structures were damaged, and only two minor injuries -- for smoke exposure and heat-related illness -- were reported, Chaney said. In addition to the Santa Ana winds, 350 firefighters were expecting single-digit humidity, Chaney said. "It does put us on edge," Chaney said of the forecast. "The weather is a very big concern for us." Added Rancho Santa Fe Fire Department Chief Tony Michel: "The winds are going to be a problem." "The battle isn't over," said San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer. "We have had crews out there that have worked all night." Firefighting on early Wednesday focused on "mop-up operations," Chaney said. The cause of the blaze, called the Bernardo Fire, is still under investigation, he said. The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for areas around San Diego through 8 p.m. Wednesday. As the agency noted, "a red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly," with strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures feeding into "extreme fire behavior." Temperatures in the southern California city are forecast to peak in the mid-90s Wednesday and Thursday with no sign of rain, before cooling somewhat later in the week. hot Car drives through raging flames in Carlsbad footage video cellphone caught on tape wildfire comment burning flame evacuate home weather hot Car drives through raging flames in Carlsbad footage video cellphone caught on tape wildfire comment burning flame evacuate home weather hot Car drives

Turkish Government Official Accused of Kicking Man at Mine Protest Turkish media, backed by thousands of Turks on Twitter, are asking whether an assistant to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan kicked a protester at the site of the deadly mine accident in Soma, Turkey.Their evidence: A photo that shows a man who resembles Erdogan's assistant, Yusuf Yerkel, and appears to be kicking a protester wrestling off two military members. It's not been confirmed whether or not the man is indeed Yerkel — or if he's intentionally kicking the fallen protester.Still, the photo has been shared thousands of times, by hundreds of users, according to Topsy, as people try and identify the man — and confirm he was indeed kicking the protester.A slow-motion video of the fateful moment was posted on DailyMotion for users to analyze the man's motions "with Zapruder-like intensity," as The New York Times's Robert Mackey writes, while some — including Storyful's David Clinch — question if it is indeed a kick that people are seeing. Maybe the man is jumping out of the way?Despite requests from Turks and members of the international media, including Channel 4 News's Alex Thomson and Le Monde's Istanbul correspondent Guillaume Perrier, Yerkel has yet to respond to the accusations on his Twitter account. "Mr Yerkel is strangely quiet don't you think?" Thomson tweeted on Wednesday. If the allegations are true, it would likely open a dangerous new chapter for Erdogan's government, which stands accused of neglect and mismanagement of the country's mining industry and its response to the disaster, and has sparked protests across the country that are turning increasingly violent. On Wednesday, Erdogan furthered angered relatives of the dead and missing miners by saying, "These are usual things." Nearly 300 miners are dead, and scores are feared missing, in Tuesday's coal mine disaster in the industrial town of Soma in the country's west.

Boko Haram Leader Shekau Releases Video On Abduction Of Chibok Girls
Boko Haram Leader Shekau Releases Video On Abduction Of Chibok Girls

The leader of Boko Haram sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau, released a video today in which he claimed responsibility for abducting the Nigerian school girls, and said he will soak all Nigerian soil with Christian blood, and Muslims opposing them, whom he described as infidels. The video lasts 56 minutes and 58 seconds, and shows Iman Shekau speaking from a script, surrounded by heavily armed fighters, backed by an armored personnel carrier, and two other armed vehicles. Iman Shekau said, "I am the one that took your girls. Are you the one that created the girls? I will sell them in the market. I have my own market of selling human beings. It is Allah, the owner that instructed me to sell. I will sell the girls." And he added, "It is Allah that instructed us, until we soak the ground of Nigeria with Christian blood and so called Muslims contradicting Islam. After we have killed, killed, killed, and get fatigue and wondering on what to do with smelling of their corpses, smelling of Obama, Bush and Jonathan worried us then we will open prison and be imprisoned the rest. Infidels have no value." 234 Nigerian schoolgirls, aged between 15-18, were abducted from a remote school in Chibok village, Borno State, in Northeast Nigeria on April 15. The girls and young women came from schools in Izge, Lassa, Ashigashiya and Warabe to do final exams because other the schools were shut in Borno state because of attacks by Boko Haram. Iman Shekau said the sects friends are those in Afghanistan, Mali, Yemen and Pakistan, and not those Arabs who just bragged with their colors but deal with Americans and the West. Shekau said there is slavery in Islam, contrary to his critics, noting that Prophet Muhammed took slaves during Badr war in Hejaz region of western Arabia in present day Saudi Arabia. Shekau said, "Just because I took girls in Western school they are worried. I say they (the girls) should desert the school. They should go and marry. Stupid people. Talking about human rights and democracy. Nonsense. People that are doing same sex marriage and saying they are leaders." And he added, "I will imprison Jonathan's daughter, any one that turn to Islam will be saved. For me anyone that embraces Islam is my own. Stupid Jonathan, you will be surprise. Until the land is soaked with blood." Later he said, "This is a war against Christians and democracy and their constitution, we have not started, we will be in Abuja, and in your state. This war is against Christians, I mean Christians, generally the infidels. Allah says we should finish them when we get them." Shekau boasted in the video that he has no business with infidel's money, "I have no time with your trillion. I am working for Allah and will die for it. No one can stop me. You killed Mohammed Yusuf. Are you not saying he is even better than Shekau? Even if you kill me, other fighters will rise better than me, I am nothing and worthless before Allah who I am working for. You are sitting with Christians and saying we are one, saying there is no difference. We are not one with infidels." Later he said, "It is a lie, in fact you suppose to wash and re-wash a plate Christian eats food before you eat as Muslims. You know all these things and you are contradicting Islam. Are Christians the people we should play with? They killed us in Shendam, Zangon Katab and all the places. It is either you are with us or you are with them, and when we see you, we will harvest your neck with knife." He cursed Islamic political leaders the late Malam Aminu Kano, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and Islamic scholar, Usman Dan Fodio as infidels for working and accepting democracy and constitution, and added, "We are not ignorant of all that happened." The mass abduction three weeks ago, and the Nigerian military's failure to rescue the girls and young women, has roused national and international outrage with protests in major cities in Nigeria, and across the world. A number of girls have escaped who said their captors identified themselves as Boko Haram. Nigerian Police Commissioner, Tanko Lawan told reporters the number of escaped girls is 53.

The Silent War: Israel's Blockade of Gaza

Israels blockade of Gaza has been in place for almost three years. Building on existing closures and restrictions, the blockade means the delay or denial of a broad range of items food, industrial, educational, medical deemed "non-essential" for a population largely unable to be self-sufficient at the end of decades of occupation. The blockade prevents access by sea, land and air, effectively closing off a population of 1.5 million Palestinians from the outside world. This short film examines what the blockade means for the people of Gaza, as they struggle to rebuild their lives over a year after Operation Cast Lead.

"It's like we're becoming the Titanic," one student says. HEARTBREAKING: 'Mom, This Looks Like the End of Me': Doomed Vessel's Last Minutes Footage on cellphone. 한국 페리침몰 대형 참사 Korean Ferry Students Captured Sinking on Video SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - Soon after the ferry begins to tilt, nervous laughter can be heard from the high school students huddled below deck. In video clips from the cellphone of a victim of a disaster that has shaken South Korea, the teenagers talk of taking selfies, wonder if they'll make the news and discuss posting about the excitement later on Facebook. The fear in the cabin builds as the listing becomes worse. Some say they feel dizzy, that their legs are shaking. One student can be seen walking with his hands braced against the wall for balance. "Am I really going to die?" a student asks at 8:53 a.m. April 16, less than two minutes into the video and two minutes before a crew member on the bridge made the ferry's first distress call. Students ask whether the ship will sink and where their teachers are. "What's the captain doing?" Several times they are warned over the loudspeaker to stay where they are, even as the tilting increases and it becomes less possible for them to flee. The shaky video was on the cellphone of a 17-year-old student, Park Su-hyeon, when rescuers recovered his body. The boy's father provided it Thursday to The Associated Press, saying he wanted to show the world the ship's condition as it sank. Park Jong-dae, the boy's father, earlier released it to select South Korean media. The tragedy, which has left more than 300 people dead or missing, has created a sense of national mourning, anger and shame. About 220 bodies, mostly from inside the submerged vessel, have so far been recovered. More than 80 percent of the victims were students from one high school in Ansan, south of Seoul, on their way to the southern tourist island of Jeju for a school trip. The group of teens in the video alternates between bluster, attempts at humor and unmistakable fear. Some of the students in the video struggle as they try to buckle their life jackets. As the ferry lists, they joke about "final commemorative pictures" and "defying gravity" by trying to walk on the walls. At the beginning of the video, a message blasts from the ship's loudspeakers: "Don't move away from your places and brace for any possible accidents." In subsequent announcements, passengers are again told to stay put, even as some students question whether they should flee. The last message from the bridge comes at 9:08: "We're again announcing: For passengers who can wear life vests, please wear them now. Never move away from your places." That warning came eight minutes after a Sewol crew member told a marine traffic official, "The body of the ship has tilted, and it's impossible to move," according to a transcript. After the bridge ordered passengers to stay in their cabins, Capt. Lee Joon-seok took at least half an hour to order an evacuation. It is unclear whether that order was ever relayed to passengers. Lee has said he delayed evacuation because of worries about sending passengers into cold waters and fast currents before rescuers arrived. Lee can be seen in a separate video released by the coast guard leaping from the ferry in his underwear onto a rescue boat while many passengers were still in the sinking ship. The captain and 14 others responsible for the ferry's navigation have been detained on suspicion of negligence and abandoning people in need. Prosecutors are investigating whether stability issues related to too much cargo or a redesign that added more cabins to the ship contributed to the sinking. Some of the teens in the video use it to offer their last words. Some warn their siblings not to take school trips unless they want to end up like them. "I'm really scared," a student says at one point. "Is it really sinking?" another asks. "Wow, they're giving us life vests." "I'm getting out of here," one says. "Me too, me too," says another. A student says: "We have to survive now." "We're all finished. I have to leave some farewell words before I die," says another. "Mom, I love you," says one. cellphone South Korean Students on Ferry Captured Last Moments South Korea ferry disaster: Video shows students as ferry sinks cellphone South Korean ferry disaster footage Heartbreaking video shows students as S Korea ferry sinks South Korean Passengers' cellphone Video Captures Ferry Sinking South Korean Students on Ferry Captured Last Moments South Korea ferry disaster: Video shows students as ferry sinks South Korean ferry disaster footage Heartbreaking video shows students as S Korea ferry sinks South Korean Passengers' Video Captures Ferry Sinking 한국 페리침몰 대형 참사 South Korean Students on Ferry Captured Last Moments South Korea ferry disaster: 한국 페리침몰 대형 참사
