Drumhead
A drumhead or drum skin is a membrane stretched over one or both of the open ends of a drum. The drumhead is struck with sticks, mallets, or hands, so that it vibrates and the sound resonates through the drum.
History
Originally, drumheads were made from animal hide and were first used in early human history, long before records began.
In 1957, Remo Belli and Sam Muchnick together developed a polymer head (also known as Mylar) leading to the development of the Remo drumhead company.
Despite the benefits of plastic heads, drummers in historical reenactment groups such as fife and drum use animal skin heads for historical accuracy. Skin heads are used on most hand drums, including djembes, frame drums, bongos and congas, although in recent years, companies such as Remo have begun manufacturing synthetic counterparts for certain hand drums such as congas. Another common material used for drumheads is aramid fiber, such as kevlar. More durable fiber heads, such as kevlar heads, are used mostly in marching percussion.

The Drumhead
"The Drumhead" is the 95th episode of the syndicated American science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation and the 21st episode of the program's fourth season. It was directed by cast member Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander William Riker on the show. It takes the form of a courtroom drama.
An explosion aboard the Enterprise leads to a high-level investigation headed by Admiral Norah Satie, a retired officer renowned for her skill at exposing conspiracies. Satie quickly determines that a visiting Klingon officer was attempting to smuggle diagrams off the ship, but the Klingon denies any involvement in the explosion. Satie refuses to give up on her investigation, even after the explosion is proven to be an accident, and she accuses Captain Jean-Luc Picard of treason when he challenges her charges against an innocent crewman.
Plot
When an explosion within the dilithium chamber of the Federation starship Enterprise's warp engine room appears to be the work of sabotage, Starfleet Command dispatches a retired rear admiral from the Legal Division of its Support Services Section, Norah Satie, to lead an investigation to uncover the cause.

Drum
The drum is a member of the percussion group of musical instruments. In the Hornbostel-Sachs classification system, it is a membranophone. Drums consist of at least one membrane, called a drumhead or drum skin, that is stretched over a shell and struck, either directly with the player's hands, or with a drum stick, to produce sound. There is usually a resonance head on the underside of the drum, typically tuned to a slightly lower pitch than the top drumhead. Other techniques have been used to cause drums to make sound, such as the thumb roll. Drums are the world's oldest and most ubiquitous musical instruments, and the basic design has remained virtually unchanged for thousands of years.
Drums may be played individually, with the player using a single drum, and some drums such as the djembe are almost always played in this way. Others are normally played in a set of two or more, all played by the one player, such as bongo drums and timpani. A number of different drums together with cymbals form the basic modern drum kit.

Head
A head is the part of an organism, which usually comprises the eyes, ears, nose and mouth, each of which aid in various sensory functions, such as sight, hearing, smell, and taste. Some very simple animals may not have a head, but many bilaterally symmetric forms do. Heads develop in animals by an evolutionary trend known as cephalization. In bilaterally symmetrical animals, nervous tissues concentrate at the anterior region, forming structures responsible for information processing. Through biological evolution, sense organs and feeding structures also concentrate into the anterior region; these collectively form the head.
Human head
The human head is an anatomical unit that consists of the skull, hyoid bone and cervical vertebrae. The term "skull" collectively denotes the mandible (lower jaw bone) and the cranium (upper portion of the skull that houses the brain). The skull can also be described as being composed of the cranium, which encloses the cranial cavity, and the facial skeleton (includes the mandible). There are eight bones in the cranium and fourteen in the facial skeleton.

I use 4 different bass drum heads on this video. First up is a clear Remo Powerstroke 3 with a Remo Falam Slam. At 2:00 I change to a clear Remo Ambassador with an Evans EQ Patch. At 4:18 I use a clear Remo Controlled Sound with Evans EQ patch, and finally at 6:49 I use the clear Remo Pinstripe with Evans EQ Patch. The kit is a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute and The Bass Drum is a 22" x 18" The Resonant head is the standard Yamaha Logo Head. I use a pillow as dampening.....because I love the sound!! I have had trouble finding a bass drum sound that I like and I often find the leading models a little to boomy for my personal taste, that's why I've experimented with some less "fashionable" bass drum heads. Elswhere on my channel I have also compared the Evans Emad, Remo Powerstoke 3 and The Aquarian Superkick. John Bonham often used a Controlled Sound Bass Drum Head. Steve Gadd used to use a Pinstripe Bass Drum Head. Dave Weckl currently uses an Ambassador Bass Drum Head (coated). Bass Drum Head Comparison
I use 4 different bass drum heads on this video. First up is a clear Remo Powerstroke 3 with a Remo Falam Slam. At 2:00 I change to a clear Remo Ambassador with an Evans EQ Patch. At 4:18 I use a clear Remo Controlled Sound with Evans EQ patch, and finally at 6:49 I use the clear Remo Pinstripe with Evans EQ Patch. The kit is a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute and The Bass Drum is a 22" x 18" The Resonant head is the standard Yamaha Logo Head. I use a pillow as dampening.....because I love the sound!! I have had trouble finding a bass drum sound that I like and I often find the leading models a little to boomy for my personal taste, that's why I've experimented with some less "fashionable" bass drum heads. I use 4 different bass drum heads on this video. First up is a clear Remo Powerstroke 3 with a Remo Falam Slam. At 2:00 I change to a clear Remo Ambassador with an Evans EQ Patch. At 4:18 I use a clear Remo Controlled Sound with Evans EQ patch, and finally at 6:49 I use the clear Remo Pinstripe with Evans EQ Patch.
The kit is a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute and The Bass Drum is a 22" x 18" The Resonant head is the standard Yamaha Logo Head. I use a pillow as dampening.....because I love the sound!!
I have had trouble finding a bass drum sound that I like and I often find the leading models a little to boomy for my personal taste, that's why I've experimented with some less "fashionable" bass drum heads.
Elswhere on my channel I have also compared the Evans Emad, Remo Powerstoke 3 and The Aquarian Superkick.
John Bonham often used a Controlled Sound Bass Drum Head.
Steve Gadd used to use a Pinstripe Bass Drum Head.
Dave Weckl currently uses an Ambassador Bass Drum Head (coated).
